. Imperialism is the act of colonising a country and gaining power using military force or other means, since many colonies were being taken over with the use of coercion, imperial tensions were rising because the colonial nations had been taken advantage of by the mother countries. During WW1 there were two main alliances that were formed before the war, the triple Alliance, and the triple Entente. The triple Alliance consisted of Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy, and the triple Entente was made up of Russia, France, and Britain. Having alliances causes tensions between alliances from an early stage, and as imperial tensions grew so did tensions between nations.
