Son of a Saint launched in 2011 to address the burgeoning problem of fatherless boys in the New Orleans area.

Under the direction of Bivian “Sonny” Lee III, the 501(c)(3) organization is dedicated to its mission of transforming the lives of young males through mentorship, emotional support, development of life skills, exposure to constructive experiences and formation of positive, lasting peer-to-peer relationships.

As Son of a Saint celebrates more than a decade of providing impact, service, and success, the organization continues its crucial work of mentoring and transforming the lives of fatherless young men across Greater New Orleans.

Son of a Saint looks forward to entering its bright future, adding more programming, more services, more mentors, and building the lives of more young men than ever before in its history.

MENTORS

Son of a Saint mentors teach, guide, advise, support, watch over, and foster the progress of our mentees. When a boy is mentored into a well-developed man, there are huge rewards — not only for the young man, but also for the adult mentor. Participants may opt to mentor a group, co-mentor or one-on-one. We require mentors that are paired individually to check in once a week with their mentee via face-to-face, text, phone call, virtually or email. Mentors that are paired individually and attend group activities are also required to fill out a Son of a Saint Monthly Mentor Hours Form.

The time commitment for mentors is 4+ hours per month.

VOLUNTEERS

Son of a Saint volunteers take part in the organization’s programming, special events, and activities in a variety of capacities. This often includes event management, tutoring, driving and transportation services, specified committee membership, activity facilitation, community service support, and more. Son of a Saint depends on volunteers for a range of critical functions to ensure the successful operation of the entire organization. Volunteering with Son of a Saint is a rewarding way to make a difference for our boys and our city.

The time commitment for volunteers varies based on the event and their availability.
