Introduction We have been asked to create a year plan for an FET grade according to either the IEB or CAPS curriculum. I chose to create a year plan for Grade 11 according to the CAPS curriculum. This plan includes 4 Practical Assessment Tasks, one for each term with the last one being a connection between the 3 Practical Assessment Tasks that came before. I also created a Stylistic Analysis for the Grade 11’s as well as their June Written Exam which will be 3 hours long, consisting of all the visual literacy they have covered in the year so far. The Practical Assessment Tasks begin with a painting task titled A Study of Light. The students will be required to paint one part of the school campus, painting 4 canvases, each at a different time of day. The second practical assessment task is titled Expression of the Self. In this PAT, the students will be required to create a portrait that is influenced by the Expressionist movement. The portrait should be a way for the students to express themselves. The third Practical Assessment Task is titled Architecture. In this PAT, the students will be required to create a 3D sculpture of a building that is influenced by postmodernism, and must look as if it has just been taken out of a surrealist painting. The last Practical Assessment Task will be to create an online exhibition of all the artworks they have created throughout the year. Various assessment strategies will be used throughout the year. These will include discussions, presentations, self-assessment, peer-assessment as well as open-book tests, closed-book tests, and of course the June and November exams. The June exam will cover most of what had been covered in terms 1 and 2, and the November exam will cover everything throughout the year. The students will also be required to complete a stylistic analysis each term which will help them improve their visual literacy. It will be of an artwork of their choice that has been analysed in class already. This stylistic analysis will form a part of their mark every term. Overall, the students should be learning valuable information with regards to the art world and the history of it. This will help them determine if they would like to pursue this line of work in their career moving forward.
