Letter FROM THE EDITOR

JONATHAN W. PHILLIPS, M.D. Family and Sports Medicine

Meadow Pointe residents, Spring has sprung! Now is the time to get outside in the sunshine and enjoy all that our area has to offer! Whether it’s going to a local Saturday fresh market to shop for veggies and crafts, or a family picnic in the park, or even that first trip to the beach for a long walk along the shore, take advantage of the first warm days of spring!

Florida Hospital Physician Care is proud to welcome Dr. Jonathan W. Phillips. Dr. Phillips is a board-certified family medicine physician with a Certification of Added Qualification in Sports Medicine.

There are many interesting events for families this time of year. One event is the Summer Splash on April 6th at the Glazer Children’s Museum, a fun-filled day for families to learn about summer camps around the Tampa Bay area. There will be games, activities, prizes and live entertainment.

USF celebrates going green and sustainability this month with their Earth Day festivities on April 20th, 10 am - 4 pm. The theme this year is Fresh Food Revolution. It’s a wonderful opportunity to teach our young people about the importance of supporting local farmers and vendors. There will be a farmer’s market, drum circle, educational demonstrations and children’s activities. Whatever you find to do this month, be thankful that we live in a beautiful area of the country and that we can get outside and enjoy it! We welcome photos you take of your family events this month. Please send them in and you might be featured on an upcoming cover! Happy springtime!

Construction Update

As you have probably noticed, construction is well underway on our new building! We are looking at an early June completion date if all goes as planned. This building will house the CDD office, a lounge, as well as the fitness center. The current fitness center room will be used for several fitness classes, or meetings.

Reminder

If you are making any changes to the exterior of your house (including new windows, roofing, painting), please be sure to fill out an Architectural Review Application which can be found on our website, or at the CDD office.

Please be courteous and do not leave cardboard or other paper items outside the recycle bin. Boxes should be broken down and folded so to fit more items in the bins. We are working to have the recycling picked up more often, but in the meantime, if your items do not fit in the box, you can try Sand Pine Elementary’s recycling bin, or come back when the dumpster is emptied.

Goodwill and MP1 Trash Dumpsters

We are still having an issue with residents leaving their appliances next to the Goodwill and trash bins at the clubhouse. Did you know you can have major appliances picked up for free? If a resident has a major appliance, working or nonworking, they should call 727-439-1905 and mention Goodwill. Pickup days are normally on Sundays. Items that they will not take are TV’s and microwaves.

Artisan Aesthetics Offers Innovative Treatment Dr. Stanley Castor, a BoardCertified Plastic Surgeon, has been chosen as one of the first physicians in the United States to offer New GPS Laser Lipocontrol™ Treatment - an innovative body shaping technology from Europe. Dr. Castor’s practice, Artisan Aesthetics, is one of the pioneers in the field of aesthetic medicine. “Even with dieting and exercise, many people are seeking ways to quickly and effectively remove stubborn areas of unwanted fat,” explains Dr. Castor. “Lipocontrol, the latest innovative technology to hit our shores, quickly and safely removes problem areas of fat deposits, with total control and safety.”

Page 10

FDA-approved Lipocontrol uses thermal energy in the form of a heat generating laser to liquefy unwanted fat and then remove the liquid fat in one easy procedure. A built-in GPS tracking system allows Dr. Castor to determine in real time exactly how much energy is being delivered to a given area of the body and to deliver a uniform amount of energy. “This additional control guarantees a high level of safety as well as more even and smoother results,” says Dr. Castor. The entire procedure can be done in-office in one session on a number of different areas of the body including the abdomen, waist (love handles), hips and thighs, buttocks, back of arms, knees, ankles and even under the chin to remove unsightly “turkey necks.” “I am truly amazed at the performance and results we are seeing from Lipocontrol,” says Dr. Castor. “Hands down, this is the best minimally invasive fat removal procedure currently on the market. My patients love the results!”

April 2013

Dr. Castor is Board-Certified in Plastic Surgery by the American Board of Plastic Surgery, the only plastic surgery board recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties. He also is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a repeat recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award in recognition of the difference he has made in the lives of his patients, and was named in the 2010-2012 Guide to America’s Top Surgeons by the Consumer’s Research Council. “All patients are unique with individual problem areas that need to be addressed,” says Dr. Castor. “I strive for the best results for each patient, while keeping their safety, comfort and well-being in mind.” Artisan Aesthetics is located at 5383 Primrose Lake Circle, Suite A, in Tampa Palms. For more information, call 813-971-2000, visit www. DrCastor.com or Facebook.com/ DrStanleyCastor. v

Last April, Otis Wathington and Cheryl Farina were working at the clubhouse office for the evening. Sheriff’s Deputy Aaron Smith stopped by to check in with the clubhouse staff and to bring by a photo of a missing girl that had possibly been spotted in the area. Later that evening, Cheryl noticed a girl in the clubhouse that looked like the missing girl in the photo. She asked Otis if he thought she was the girl from the picture. As any of you who’ve spent time at the Clubhouse facilities in the evening can attest, Otis gets to know as many residents as possible. He realized Cheryl was right, and Otis also recalled she had been spending a lot of time lately near the clubhouse. Cheryl called Deputy Smith, who came quickly to the clubhouse. Deputy Smith was able to resolve the situation and ultimately get the young lady reunited with her family out of state. It’s a story with a happy ending and a lot of credit to go around. Otis and Cheryl both recall Deputy Smith (now a Detective specializing in missing persons cases) as being very involved in the Meadow Pointe community. The Sheriff’s Office gives a lot of the credit to Otis and Cheryl, honoring them both with Citizen’s Service Awards that included plaques for their assistance. “You always have to do what you can to help people,” Otis said humbly about the incident.

The Supervisors also approved a contract to install two Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant pool lifts. Federal law mandates that any public pool over three hundred linear wall feet must have two lifts. The chairlifts will be battery operated and be available anytime the pool is open. They will be closely monitored for use by individuals with special needs. Other ADA compliant requirements are being made around the clubhouse to insure we meet rederal regulations and to make the facilities accessible to all of our residents. After a yearlong debate and months of work, the MPII Employee’s Manual was completed. This is a relief to all of the Supervisors and something owed to our faithful employees. Thanks to our CDD District Attorney Andy Cohen and Attorney Kim Walker for all their hard work in coordinating the completion of this much needed document. In the very near future we will be holding public hearings on the MPII Policies and Procedures which is another document that needs to be in place. - Glen Aleo MPII Supervisor

Mansfield Update The Meadow Pointe II CDD received a copy of a letter that was sent to the Chief Assistant County Attorney from the City of Tampa. “After ongoing discussions between the parties, the City and the Developer may be revisiting the existing zoning and the terms of the agreement given the change or conditions and the needs within the New Tampa area. So at this time, neither the City nor the Developer is in a position to be responsive to the Pasco Requirements, as outlined”.

Email discussions with The Chief Assistant - Earle McDonald MPII Staff County Attorney and county Engineers have indicated there are no plans to move forward Supervisor’s Update at this time with the opening of Mansfield and Kinnan. Does this mean that it’s a DEAD ISSUE? Many different issues were discussed At the March The answer is a resounding NO! 6th CDD Supervisor’s meeting. Most importantly, steps were taken to get the community pool re-opened. The Supervisors hired Finley Pools to fix the filtration system which includes adding new acid and chlorine tanks, an OPM Computer system with probes to constantly monitor the pool, new acid lines and chlorine pump. Finley will also install 40 new filter grids as recommended by an independent engineering company and recirculation valves to the filter grid. Finley will service your community pool 5 days a week, making sure that everything is operating as required. Their service includes vacuuming the pool, maintaining chemical levels and cleaning the pool. April 2013

Thanks to everyone who has been voicing their opinion on the issue, both pro and con. Keep the emails coming. Your input to your community is important to all of us. - Mike Cline MPII Supervisor

Mahjong Ladies play Mahjong at MPIII Clubhouse every Wednesday 12 noon - 3 pm. Come and meet new friends.

Announcements If a resident would like to make an announcement in the MPIII Section, a birthday, anniversary, wedding or engagement please contact the Clubhouse at 813-383-6676.

Mail Box Repair

Because street storm drains carry rain into our pond system, it is vital that these drains remain clear. Mulch, sticks and other things may wash into the street during heavy rains and cause the storm drain openings to clog. If clogs are not removed water will back up onto the street surface very quickly and then into yards. Residents need to check storm drains opening and report to clubhouse if there is any type of blockage issue during our rainy season.

Key Fobs at MPIII Meadow Pointe III Clubhouse has gone to an electronic key fob access system. Meadow Pointe III residents will receive two complimentary fobs per household. All MP-1, MP-2 or MP-4 residents may purchase one or two fobs at $10 per key fob. You must bring your key fob to enter the fitness room, pool area, or clubhouse from the pool patio. Everyone is welcome at MPIII.

Resident Story

A Passion for Music Opens New Doors for Young MP Resident by Ann MacKinnon copy of his mix on cds. They loved it so much, they asked for more of his mixes to listen to in their cars. During his high school senior project he was mentored by a local DJ, as having a mentor was a requirement of the project. As a result of this mentorship, Danny has gained valuable hands-on experience at wedding receptions and private parties. Last summer, after graduation, Danny enrolled in a week-long private training session at the DJ Scratch Academy in Miami. He spent the week working with a full-time Miami DJ to learn more about scratching, mixing, etc. The DJ Scratch Academy, with locations in NY, LA, Chicago and Miami, is well known in the DJ world.

D

anny Spence has always loved music. His fondness and natural curiosity, lead him to choose the DJ business as the subject of his senior project at Wiregrass Ranch High School last year. He researched DJ’s, beat matching, the science and “how to” behind DJing. He then presented a powerpoint presentation and performed a live mix for a board of 4 faculty members, providing them all a

Danny gained the knowledge he needed to get his business started. He practiced a lot on his own and used his graduation money to outfit himself with the necessary DJ equipment, speakers and action lighting systems.

Although he’s done a few weddings, his focus is performing at private house parties, school functions, holiday parties, backyard BBQ s, sweet 16 parties, graduation parties, father/daughter dances as well as special events needing DJ services for background music and/or dancing. Danny has a play list of over 20,000 songs and is able to play most any genre or special request. He can be found on facebook as DJ OverWatch. Danny is currently enrolled in Hillsborough County Community College, while cross-enrolling in Army ROTC at USF. He’ll transfer to USF in a year to finish his BA degree. His future plans include receiving his commission as a Second Lieutenant into the Florida Army National Guard. He has interests in criminal justice as well as majors that use his creativity in music and video production. Several of Danny’s high school teachers told him he should be a motivational speaker, as he has a very outgoing personality. This will serve him well in his DJ engagements and all of his future projects. v

Reviving 5,000 years of civilization

ALL-NEW 2013 SHOW WITH LIVE ORCHESTRA

APR 26-28

Mahaffey Theater “Shen Yun is absolutely No. 1,

the top one in the world, absolutely the best...” — Ken Wells, legendary principal dancer of the English National Ballet

S

Presented by Florida Falun Dafa Association, Inc.

HEN YUN. For Chinese, the words evoke a sense of wonder, magic, and the divine. To audiences who have seen it, they recall the experience of a lifetime— a moment so powerfully beautiful it touches the soul. Discover the glory of a fantastically rich culture, that of classical China, brought to life through brilliantly choreographed dance and mesmerizing, all-original orchestral compositions. Magnificently costumed dancers—the world’s elite—move in poetic arrangements that evoke pastoral beauty, imperial drama, and the glory of an ancient civilization. This season, discover what art was meant to be experienced. Based in New York, Shen Yun Performing Arts seeks to revive this once-majestic tradition by creating a production worthy in its beauty of this noble history—something that enriches the lives of audiences in powerful, lasting ways.

“This is the finest thing, the finest event I’ve ever been to in my life... I was in tears, because the human spirit, the dignity, the power, the love, coming out of those people was astounding...This is the profound, quintessential end of entertainment, there is nothing beyond this, nothing.” - Jim Crill, Bob Hope producer
