Personal Statement: Why Transfer Essay
As I mentioned in my Why Transfer essay, I decided to major in art for my undergraduate study; the contrast between the life in Nashville and New York and the experience of my internships gave me the courage to finally make this determination. During my freshmen year, the satisfaction artwork brought me the fountain of my happiness. I still could recall those dreamlike experience: Holiday Windows during Christmas, the New York Fashion Week, the works in tons of galleries and museums, etc. When facing those oil painting artworks, I couldn't stop imaging how printers made those brushstrokes. The just right thick pigment allowed me to communicate with them across the time limit. Regardless how many academic assignments and exams I faced or how Get

Some people have skills that makes them unique, my skill was just always a hands on learner. I have always just enjoyed fixing minor things around my house since I was four. My mother would usually say "Where's my handyman at?" whenever there were something to fix. Something about getting the knowledge of turning something useless into its original state just intrigues me. When I was around ten years old, I started skating and it had me actually figure out the board completely and learned how to assemble one which gave me more experience.
Around elementary and middle school, I didn't know much of what career path I would choose since everyone I knew in my classes had their lives all planned out. I would panic when people asked "what are you going to be after your out of school?" and I didn't know what to say so I just told them that I would be a correction officer like my dad. In the beginning I forced that thought into my head, but at the same time I knew it wasn't something I always wanted to be. So my search of my future career was now back into my first priorities....show more content... I was able to put my skill of being able to fix things into something I can actually use in the real world. I just felt so relieved that all those years of wondering "what kind of career path would I take after high school?" is now finally over. I enjoyed how my teacher was one on one with each and every single one of us in his class. He showed us how to do simple auto mechanic jobs, and talked us step by step on what we needed to do to complete what task he gave us. It was all slowly coming to me and I started to have that knowledge on what the problem is and how could I solve

The Benefits Of UC Berkeley

Oski the Bear, the mascot, was first seen in 1941 with the school colors, Berkeley Blue and California Gold. First, Berkeley is an amazing school academically. There are a myriad of majors for incoming freshman to choose from. Some of them include art, biology, business, and math. The more popular of the majors are social sciences, biological sciences, and engineering. Therefore, by going

Being a transfer student, I want to contribute more than just academic strength at Baylor; I desire to share a unique journey filled with struggles and failures as a teenager. In the beginning of my college career, I struggled with a lot of aspects of my life from personal issues to family illnesses. Consequently, all of those factors took a toll on my academic abilities and by the age of 18, I had failed two semesters at my community college. I felt like a failure towards my family, but more importantly, myself. From my perspective now, I know that the mistakes I have made have put worthy people within my path. For example, I was put on Academic Probation by an academic counselor, little did I know that Mrs. Thompson would become one of the

I originally started my education at a small high school with a toxic learning environment. I fooled around too much and was too socially involved, because of this, my grades suffered and I wasn't going anywhere. In grade ten I applied to transfer schools, and when grade 11 came around I was in a new environment. I fully recognize that this was the BEST decision I have ever made (short of applying to UBC!). My new teachers and faculty not only gave me a clean slate, but they supported me in all of my endeavors, and they never seemed to waiver in there certainty that I would succeed. Because of their encouragement I gained confidence in myself. When it was time for me to enter grade twelve, I thought about my career path and resolved that I wanted to become a doctor. I knew that if I applied myself to the fullest, I would get there. Thanks to the support of the entire faculty, I was instilled...show more content...
At this new school, NOBODY spoke to me, and I felt isolated. Being a confident person, as well as a social butterfly, I tried to insert myself into multiple groups of people, and I was continually shutdown; nobody would have me. This realization was genuinely shocking, I mean, I thought there would be at least 1 person! Not to be boastful, but I was relatively popular at my old school, so I had thought I'd be accepted. This ended up being humbling and for the best, in lack of a social aspect I resolved to focus more on my studies, and starting into grade twelve, I realized that I can do whatever I set my mind to (within realistic boundaries). This path required going back and redoing three years of coursework at the university level, because I had taken everything at the college level. Although this path may seem daunting and/or troublesome to many, it has never appeared that way to me, because I like to learn, and this was the only tunnel that had university at the end of

Technology transfer could be so complicated at times to exploredue to all the tasks require to be able to give a full analysis of what is involve and the process that one has to go through. Although many people have tried tracing the source of precise technology and how it affected the originating culture and the role it has on history. However, there are some common fundamentals that could be helpful in analyzing all the activities that are involved. Some of the clue that has been of help so far identifying technology transfer is what is being transferred, where technology is transferred from, those receiving transferred, and lastly how the technology is delivered to the receiver. Another form of formal channel of technology transfer is turnkey plant. In this type of technology transfer, the donor basically takes the responsibility production in their foreign subsidiary by using several technical knowledges and skills transferred from the donor. Furthermore, licensing is another form formal channel of technology transfer. It is one of the inevitable when transferring technology from one country to the other. Still another area of formal technology transfer is entrepreneurial science that employs the agreements all over the world in which knowledge is transferred into intellectual property. Nevertheless, exportation of manufactured goods is also another formal channel of transferring technology from one country to the other such as cars, electronics etc. Another form of transfer of technology is informal channel. There are also scientific and technical publications that will also be carried out. Furthermore, seminars, conferences, and trades shown are also needed for informal channel of technology transfer. One thing we should not ignore in this chapter is the rate in which many recipient countries are adapting to the new technology. For example,

There is no knowing what my legacy at UC Irvine may be, but I will describe what my goal is for the next four years. Of course it includes doing well in all my classes, however I would like to accomplish more than that and at a deeper level. I would like to work with other students to make our community become more united than it already is. Fitting in is one thing, but making others feel welcomed is much more important. College is a place where connections and ties are established and everyone should be able to do so. It would be of great pleasure to join groups where as a collective we help not only each other, but also the community around us. The legacy I want to create is not for me but rather for the notion of an interconnected and involved

My Legacy At UC Irvine
My experiences as a student at UC Berkeley have prepared me for success in Vanderbilt University School of Nursing's intense accelerated program. As an undergraduate at UC Berkeley I persisted through semesters of full course loads while volunteering in two labs on campus and working late shifts as a barista. Although my lunch breaks at work usually consisted of a rushed croissant with my head in the books, I will never forget those days because they taught me to thrive in stressful situations. Despite the heavy workload and time commitment I earned a 3.65 GPA and never fell behind in my research assignments or coursework. My dedication to learning, a positive attitude, organizational ability and time management contributed to my success as

UC Personal Insights DUE Nov. 30 Jialin Jin 8. What is the one thing that you think sets you apart from other candidates from other candidates applying to the University of California? (348 /350)
I cry at the movies. Well, even though I'm willing to admit this confession, even my closest friends would be surprised. I'm usually fairly calm and collected– my personality and expression naturally serious. Having dealt with the problems of residing in four countries total, I thought I face most things with equanimity. Yet, there I am at the theater after a heart–wrenching scene, depleting all my tissue reserves almost comically in a struggle to contain my snivels and hiccups.
My empathy makes me experience everyone's story vicariously as my own. Sharing the characters' emotions at every stage of their adventures, I delight in their triumphs, despair during their crises, and when an inevitable tragedy befalls – I cry with them. With movies, the inability to somehow utter way and lead the protagonists to happiness frustrates me. My aching desire to help only becomes true in real life. Indeed, in daily life, my empathy evolves into compassion, translating the feeling into action – fulfilled by not just by charity donations, but also ...show more content...

The intensity of the competition and media attention piqued my interest, and upon taking civics, AP US history and AP government classes– I fell in love immediately. Indulging my curious and contemplative mind was a subject not only relevant, but also full of complications. Why are undisclosed donations escalating despite FECA and BCRA laws? Why does the democratic system function well despite low public knowledge and voter

During my senior year of high school, my paternal grandmother was very ill with cancer. My paternal grandmother would always talk about how happy she would be if I went to UC Davis for my bachelor's degree. She mentioned my older brother's dream school as a great school for my passions. My grandmother passed away in the summer of 2016 and I knew she would be able to pass on to the afterlife happy, knowing her grandchildren are going to achieve at their highest potential in the future. Through travelling, I have developed an interest in understanding new people around me. Travelling helps me practice and achieve my desire to understand other people's perspectives to build better relations with them. UC Davis has a great community inside the school; however, outside the town of Davis it is difficult to find a community to connect with. The isolation within this town is not beneficial in helping me understand those within the university as well around it. Many students are from the state of California, which does not invite new viewpoints and brings together like–minded individuals. Studying in a new state will allow me to open my mindset and also expose myself to new perspectives to help me connect to more people around the world. Second, I have a passion for seeking challenges. Academically, it has been a challenging school year, however, I do not feel challenged in my lifestyle here. With the same comfort as my own hometown, college does not feel different from myhigh school years. Staying comfortable in college demonstrates there was no change in lifestyle. My passion is not satisfied by having a great level of comfort at Davis. By attending college in a different state, I will expose myself to diversity and new challenges, which I will always welcome into my

While I was shadowing a few neurologists in Ravenna, OH, I mentioned all of the medical schools that I was considering applying to, and they told me that I should put the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine at the top of my list. After researching the program further, I was pleased to see the impact that the UC Medical Center was having on the community and the cutting edge research and education that UC medical students are able to take a part of. As an Ohio native, I would be honored to invest into my home state as much as possible. Community College Transfer Process Analysis
Describing the process where credit hours earned at a community college transfers for acceptance at upper–level institutions, articulation ensures a student's time and effort correctly awards. By meeting with transfer counselors, prospects can ascertain existing articulation agreements employed at colleges and universities of interest in addition to other requirements of consequence. Nevertheless, the pitfalls of transferring individual coursework opposed to entire curricula or specific degrees can evolve into a painful cautionary tale. Generally speaking, most students benefit by transferring an associate's degree rather than individual courses affording far closer scrutiny. Additional or unexpected course requirements following a transfer

Uc Application Reflection
When I submitted my UC application, I did not find it necessary to include my personal hardships, as I did not want those to be the focus of my application. However, I have now realized that omitting this information prevented me from exhibiting my full academic turnaround. Last semester, my grandmother had an accident, rendering her unable to walk. As a result, my mother had to leave immediately for India to care for her. Soon after her return, my father left for India due to the passing of my grandfather. This was a very emotional period for ourfamily, and keeping everything together was challenging.
During this time, I was also experiencing a much heavier workload, being enrolled in four AP courses. Though my familial situation was hectic,

Transfer of Learning
Transfer of learning is the study of the dependency of human conduct, learning, or performance on prior experience. The notion was originally introduced as transfer of practice by Edward Thorndike and Robert S. Woodworth. They explored how individuals would transfer learning in one context to another context that shared similar characteristics – or more formally how "improvement in one mental function" could influence another related one. Their theory implied that transfer of learning depends on the proportion to which the learning task and the transfer task are similar, or where "identical elements are concerned in the influencing and influenced function", now known as identical element theory. Transfer research has since attracted much...show more content...
negative transfer
Starting by looking at the effect side of transfer – in terms of the common performance criteria, speed and accuracy – transfer theories distinguish between two broad classes that underlie all other classifications: negative andpositive transfer. Negative transfer refers to the impairment of current learning and performance due to the application of non–adaptive or inappropriate information or behavior. Therefore, negative transfer is a type of interference effect of prior experience causing a slow–down in learning, completion or solving of a new task when compared to the performance of a hypothetical control group with no respective prior experience. Positive transfer, in contrast, emphasizes the beneficial effects of prior experience on current thinking and action. It is important to understand that the positive and negative effects of transfer are not mutually exclusive, and therefore real–life transfer effects are probably mostly a mixture of both. Positive transfer: transfer of learning or training is said to be positive when the learning or training carried out in one situation proves helpful to learning in another situation. Examples of such transfer are:
the knowledge and skills related to school mathematics help in the learning of statistical computation; the knowledge and skills acquired in terms of addition and subtraction in mathematics in school may help a child in the acquisition of knowledge and

I am a transfer student, for the past years I questioned myself did I really knew what I want or where I want to be? I got confused most the time, I thought that I had to make some change. So I decided to come to UIC, a very big campus and cultural diversity. Starting a new semester at new environments is a challenge for me, because I have never studied at such big university. The first thing bothering me is half of my classes are containing about a hundred students. I have not taken such big class before, so it make me a little bit nervous. Just watch the professor teaching and then leave, this makes me feel less connected with my professor and classmates. The other thing is the campus is too big, especially for out new coming students I

Our robot didn't move. I urged it to attempt even a crawl, but, like a rock, it stood. As I ran back to the pit to attempt a repair, I was bombarded with questions from my teammates. "What happened?" "Why did it fail?" "Will you be able to fix it?" I had no answers for what had occurred on the field. Being one of the programming sub–team captains, a large part of the blame lay on me.
