Teaching Models Of Learning

Introduction

Teaching models as proposed by Joyce and Weil (1972) are actually models of learning. These proposed models helps the students to gain knowledge, skills, ideas, values and ways of thinking through the way they learn. The focus of applying these models in the teaching and learning process remains on teaching students how to learn. The most valued feature of teaching models is the connection of the learning material to the real life context which in turn supports the students to apply the knowledge and skills they have learned effectively in their future endeavors. The purpose of this assignment is to develop a practical and theoretical understanding of different teaching models and how to integrate the models in the teaching and learning process. English is a core concept in the Untied States and other countries that has allowed inviduals to advance their knowledge. Not only does English provide an advancement in knowlege, but has created a way for individuals to share their thoughts and feelings through writing. Advanced Placement English IV allowed me to further my education in writing, which in return allowed me to overcome obstacles, low points and discover strengths I never knew I had. Like any other thing in life there are always obstacles individuals face everyday, for me in my English IV class writing was something that was very challenging. The first challenge writing presented to me was trying to organize all of my thoughts, so that it made sense. The first essay I ever wrote in my English class was a journal entry about a memorable experience, so with that being said I decided I would write about the experience I had while hunting with my Dad. The hunting experience with my dad had many different parts, and one of my biggest challenges I had was organizing my thoughts, so that it flowed correctly. Since I was telling a story within my journal I realized that I was jumping around more then I should have and this became a problem. I learned

Upon entering English 111 on–line class, I had not taken an English class on–line before. In the past I have taken several other basic classes. English has always been a struggle for me, mainly writing and grammar. Neither, writing or grammar has come natural to me. The biggest challenge for me is putting my thoughts into words.

Currently I am employed full time, and also hold a part time position along with being a wife, and mother of two children. By furthering my education, I can improve our future. Some days I just can't find the time I need to get what I need completed. Coming back to school after almost a decade has not been an easy task for me. However, I know once I get done, it will be completely worth it.

One assignment that I feel as though I put my all into would be the Definition essay, in my opinion is my best. I took my time and tried to focus on what the instructor was...show more content...

I also now know that I need additional time to devote to this class. Where in other classes, I do not seem to struggle on assignments and clarification. I am a hands–on learner, so with on–line courses it is sometimes difficult to understand what is expected of the assignment, having the rubric helps though.

Pushing ahead, I hope that I can achieve my goals to become a nurse. I know that there will be more English classes in my future. I think I will choose to take them in a classroom setting. I also will try to be more diligent in getting my assignments completed correctly the first time and on time. This class has encouraged me to be more proficient at the Blackboard and logging in to read my updates more regularly. I hope that my next English class doesn't rely on essays so much, just because it is not one of my strengths. English 111 was defiantly alearning experience for Get more content

Approaches to language development

The learning theory (behaviorism) approach to language acquisition proposes that language is learned through reinforcement and conditioning. An early explanation for the acquisition of language was given by behaviorist and psychologist B. F. Skinner. Skinner explained the phenomenon of language development as a result of environmental influence. He argued that children learn language due to behaviorist reinforcement by associating words with meaning. He attributed learning to positive reinforcement given to correct utterances, such as asking for milk and receiving it. Children will find the outcome of receiving what they have asked for rewarding, which will enhance their language development. Behaviorism does not fully explain language development as children are able to come up with unique sentence structures on their own and not just those that have been specifically reinforced. It is possible that reinforcement, imitation, and modeling are supplementary to language acquisition instead of the rule.

The nativist approach to language development addresses some of the issues with the learning theory approach to language development. It suggests that learning language is an in–born process and that humans have an innate ability to learn and understand language as well as its more complex structures. Neural cognitive research supports the nativist approach as it has found brain structures related to and responsible for language as well as Get more content

A lot of people have someone they look up to in their lives. For some people it could be a movie star, sports player, or a superhero. I do not see those people to be true role models. My definition of a role model is someone has always been there for you and supports you throughout life. For me, the person I admire the most would be my mother, Christine. Ever sense I could remember she has been my number one supporter. She inspires and motivates me to grow. My mother is my role model because of how supportive she is, how hardworking she is, and how compassionate she is. Throughout my entire life my mom has always been supporting and encouraging me. She supported me throughout all my crazy, weird phases as a teenager. Growing up I always knew I could count on her to motivate me when I wasfeeling down. She has always been the one to support my dreams when no one else did. I can remember from a really young age of my mom sitting on the sidelines of any sports game I was playing. My mom would try to never miss a single game I was playing in. I still remember the my mom waking me up before the sun would rise, carrying all of my equipment to the car, and driving for a few hours to make it to my next game. I still remember my mom's loud obnoxious screams of joy whenever I scored a goal. Whenever me and my teammates won the game my mom would get all the parents to gather off the bleachers and form a long pyramid with their hands in the air. All of my teammates and I would sprint as fast as we could through as the parents would scream with congratulations. If my team ever lost, she always would talk with me and help encourage me to continue playing. My mom was my biggest fan and supporter. A more recent example of my mother being nothing less of supportive is her encouragement throughout my high school years. Whenever I had an upcoming test my mom would always help me write out flashcards and quiz me. She always motivated me to study even when I was not feeling up to it. She always reassured me that I would do well on my upcoming tests. If it was not for her encouragement I do not think I would have accomplished as much in high school. Reflection On My English 101 Experience

Reflecting on My English 101 Experience I used to consider writing as tumble words from your mind, write, read it through, fix minor mistakes, and done. However, you rarely get successful. The truth is many students, including myself, struggle with starting to write a word, or getting stuck in the middle without knowing the main point of the writing. After completing English 101, I can explain the writing process, evaluate the strengths of my essay, and identify my weaknesses. Throughout English 101, I learned that the following the writing process was imperative. Before taking this class, I use to always skip the pre–writing step considering that it is just an easy and unnecessary step. Consequently, I struggled to figure how to start writing, and most importantly I struggled to figure out the main point while writing the draft. And then I finish the first draft close to the deadline that I do not have time to read it not to mention revising. It was after I started this class that learned that pre–writing is vital, and requires time and attention as it holds the base of the whole writing. My professor used different analogies such as blueprint for building and map for navigation to explain the importance. It really speeded up my writing after I started to utilize it. I have learned outlining before, but part of the pre–writing that I was fortunate enough to learning in English 101 is the writing triangle. For me, learning a language is a complicated process. It is different from learning other subjects. It involves a lot of practices and follow up. I started learning English as a second language when I was in first intermediate. I still remember my first classes and my first teachers. I remember that my teachers changed frequently in the first year but all of them have much in common. All of them used grammar translation method. They used to write bilingual lists of words on board, then we, as students, were asked to copy these lists and memorize them by heart. When my teacher said "good morning" to me on the very first day of school, I knew that she would be teaching a tough subject. She didn't get any answer for that greeting because back then, I knew nothing about "good morning". Surprisingly, as I went through the class session on that day, I realized that "good morning" wasn't the first English phrase that I'd known. When someone speaks English in my society, he or she feels a sense of withdrawal because they are set apart to a very small group in the society. People tend to belittle this group for speaking other languages, and normally they will end up speaking their first language to comply with the larger group in the society. With all these reasons, my interest towards English was completely gone when I enrolled in secondary school, six years after my formal `encounter' with the English language. For having this negative feeling, I became a member of a large group of students who had never realized the significance of the English language. One day was unusually dull. I was waiting for the teacher to come to the class and instead of revising my past English lessons that I rarely cared about, I prayed that she wouldn't show up that day. After ten minutes' wait, she entered the class saying "good morning". The greeting didn't bother me much, but when she came to me asking for the assignment that she gave the day before, I was speechless and I just gave her the blank handout that I was supposed to complete for that day. Her face showed no emotion and with that she ripped the paper into pieces. That day marked a massive change in my attitude toward English lessons and the English language in general. The incident was very important to me because I then realized that even in a subtle way, language represents people and to respect the language means to respect

Many challenges are faced by the ELL students and their families by being in a new environment, such as a new language, school, food, beliefs, life style, etc., where they feel that they need to deviate from their home language and their culture, absolutely not, they need to be conceited, revered, treasured.
