Art department creating designs for annual ‘Dia de los Muertos’ display Art students from Mrs. Peggy Medrano-Clark’s class will be installing their 6th annual Dia de los Muertos Ofrenda in the Moody High School library, from Oct. 28-Nov. 7th. Nov. 1 is All Souls Day and Nov. 2 is Dia de los Muertos or All Saints Day. Take time to stop by and view the installation and art display. Students have created “calaveras,” skeletons, Scared Hearts and crosses, all made from aluminum, copper or stainless steel metal sheets. All these projects were created by metal tooling. This is an old metal technique, which they create a relief image onto the metal, creating the illusion of three dimension.

Students and staff are being asked to submit pictures of their loved ones and/or famous people who passed on that you want to honor in our ofrenda as part of our study of The Day of the Dead. In addition, we are asking for tokens from the deceased. (For example: My grandfather loved to give shiny new pennies to the grandchildren, so I am leaving pennies around the photo of my grandfather.) The tradition is, at this one time of the year-Nov. 1-2, to honor and celebrate the “LIFE” of the people who have died. We would like to extend a sincere invitation for everyone to come view our ofrenda. Feliz Dia de los Muertos!---Peggy Medrano-Clarke
