5 Signs Your Mercedes Needs a Transmission Oil Change

Introduction

Transmission is part of the drive train of the vehicle. The power produced from the engine is supplied to the wheels in a proper quantity based on the need of the driver Transmission or the gear box is one of the most important system in the vehicles. To make them run properly, a fluid, known as transmission oil is used. But with time, this oil gets deteriorated and it becomes of no use. So it is changed. Changing of the transmission fluid is to be done. You need to change the oil in time or when you get the signs. Here are some common signs that your car transmission needs to have an oil change.

Common symptoms of bad or low transmission oil

Here are the signs of bad gear oil, if you get these signs in your car then you have to top up or change the gear oil.

Unusual noises while shifting gears

You will find some unusual noises while you shift to new gears. That is a clunking noise. The transmission gears get worn due to lack of lubrication from oil. As the oil gets older, it becomes unable to make the gear box to shift the gears smoothly. So it leads to rough running of the gears, then the gear box begin to produce a loud sound when it is shifted to new gears.

Check engine light glowing

If the transmission get certain problems like rough running and the gears are slipping, then the advanced sensors would detect the problem and inform the car computer. The computer turns of the check engine light. The check engine lights doesn’t always show the engine problems, it may also glow if there is problems in the intake and exhaust systems Transmission get most of the problems due to lack of gear oil. If the check engine light is glowing, then you should get your engine as well as the other systems checked.

The transmission unable to shift gears

Mainly in automatic transmission, your car doesn’t shift to other gears, stay in one gear or refusing to go to a drive at all. Sometimes it may stall when you shift the car to reverse. Such problems can trouble you the most. Unable to use the gears in the right time can make the things very difficult. This happens if the transmission fluid has become very old and contaminated and it should not stay in your car gear box. Such oil are to be changed or else it can damage the vital parts of the gear box. In case of manual transmission it would be very hard to shift to a particular gear or it would slip to previous gear automatically if you shift to one gear.

Burning smell from gear box

If there is a very less amount of gear oil in the gear box, then the whole gear box may overheat due to high friction while the transmission runs and produce a burning smell. Overheating is very dangerous for your gear box and it may get permanently damaged. The leakage of the gear oil from the transmission makes the gear box to overheat. The burning smell can also come from the burning of tires or from the exhaust or due to fluid leakage. If there is no such signs, then know that the gear box must be overheating.

Fluid spills on the ground

If you find that the transmission fluid is spilled or dripped on the ground where you have parked your car for some time, then know that your transmission is losing oil and may lead to hazardous problems for the gear box. You can check the fluid color, if the fluid color is red and dark, then the fluid must be the gear oil. You have to point out from which point the leakage is happening.

Conclusion

After getting the signs, you have to take your car for the gear oil change. If the gear oil is bad, then have it flushed out and put new oil. Get your Mercedes having smooth running of the transmission as soon as possible so that you may not have to face serious problems latter.
