EALES DARRYL

Welcome to this evening’s game under lights against Woking FC.

We have the added incentive tonight of being on live tv and it’s a pleasure to welcome DAZN as host broadcaster as well as the fans, players and officials from our visitors.

I think most of us have just about recovered our breath after Saturday’s excellent win against Barnet.

For 90 minutes, it was an outstanding all round performance and at 4-1 entering added time, I think most of us were celebrating victory.

The next 8 minutes showed why football is such a brilliant game and the way in which momentum can shift on small moments.

Ultimately, it was a fully deserved victory but I know Whingy will be disappointed with our lack of composure in those 8 minutes. Hopefully, we will learn from the experience, not too dissimilar to the last knockings of the Oldham game and we will ensure we see games out more comfortably!

None of this should detract from a performance that evidenced the quality and talent in our squad and we now have to build on this over the need few games to try and get back into the play off mix.

On Saturday, we benefitted from our biggest attendance of the season and it was a great atmosphere The presence of so many youngsters from our youth and junior teams was heart warming. Hopefully everyone enjoyed a wonderful day out and will be eager to return on a regular basis.

I’d like to thank James Morgan and the team from Day Out With the Kids and our team from the Moors foundation, especially Joe Butler, for their brilliant efforts in putting together the day.

Tickets are now on sale for our first round FA Cup tie against Maidstone United on Saturday 2nd November.

We have tried to set ticket prices at an attractive and affordable level - and the car park is free - to encourage as many as possible to attend and cheer on the Moors Please encourage everyone you know to come and give Moors a try!

Best wishes, Darryl

MATCH ACTION

SOLIHULL BARNET 4 3

In a fiery and competitive encounter, Barnet forced the first notable save of the match when Laurie Walker smothered Harry Chapman’s close-range effort.

Just minutes later, the table-toppers took an early lead when Nicke Kabamba's longdistance strike nestled in the bottom corner. The devastating striker has now netted in his past five National League games.

Barnet threatened again when Kabamba brought down a high ball and fed Chapman, whose snatched strike sailed wide.

As the first progressed the Moors grew into the game as Stevens and Adu-Poku were afforded more space to flaunt their pace but couldn’t force any shots on target. A couple of key blocks denied Osborne and Bowen from testing Nick Hayes.

The Moors’ persistence eventually paid off in the 37th minute, when Osborne’s floated delivery was headed in at the back post by the relentless Stevens

In the 39th minute, the home side completed a frantic turnaround when AduPoku’s running and cross caused chaos in the penalty area, which allowed Bradley Stevenson to bundle the ball into the net.

James Clarke nearly repeated his heroics at The Hive Stadium in the play-off victory in April when his looping header shaved the top of the net.

The Bees started the second half quickly and a slick attack forced Walker into a smart save before Alex Whitmore cleared away after a goal-mouth scramble.

In the 54th minute, the Moors extended their advantage when Bowen was released by Stevens on the counterattack. The midfielder coolly rounded the goalkeeper and slotted into an empty net.

In the 66th minute, James Gale raced clear and played in Stevens, but the winger’s low drive was parried into the side netting before Marcel Oakley’s powerful strike was also well-saved.

The Moors put the encounter well out of sight when the effervescent Adu-Poku was denied a brilliant goal on his debut after a mazy dribble. Nevertheless, the winger’s effort rebounded to Gale, who scored his third goal of the campaign

Incredible link-up play between Gale and Conor Wilkinson gave the striker a golden opportunity, but the number ten narrowly missed the target.

The visitors added a mesmerizing consolation in added time when substitute Zak Brunt unleashed a stunning shot that flew into the top corner. Barnet then swiftly added a third when Kabamba controlled Brunt’s cross for his second goal of the match to set up a nervy finale.

Solihull Moors made the National League Promotion Final, after beating Barnet 0-4 at the Hive in the semi-finals, with arguably the performance of the season from Andy Whing's side.

Moors took the lead through James Clarke scoring against the Bees for the second time this season. Jamey Osborne crossed the ball from a free-kick on the right-hand side and was met by Clarke from 10 yards out. His header across goal bouncing into the net to make it 0-1.

Moors doubled their lead through Jack Stevens. Osborne chested the ball down before dribbling towards the Barnet defenders and releasing Stevens His left-footed shot caught Keeley out as the ball trickled into the net and make it 0-2.

Moors increased their lead to three with Campbell scoring Campbell initially played the ball into Sbarra with just the goalkeeper to beat, but Keeley did well to keep the ball out. But the chance was not gone completely with Campbell in the right area to score and make it 0-3.

Solihull scored their fourth of the game with Sbarra the latest to add his name on the scoresheet. Campbell held the ball up for his teammate Maycock, who sent Sbarra in on goal with just the keeper to beat and finished calmly to mark an unforgettable evening for the Moors

ACTIONSHOTSWITHDICKY

At full Time after Laurie had acknowledged the crowd and in particular the Barnet faithful, who didn’t really give him a hard time, he went into his goal to retrieve his bits and pieces, and I got him to celebrate not only a win but the defeat of his former employers, this is where a good photographer player relationship pays off. I sent it up to the media team with the note “Stop Press” but it was too late.

A bit of pre-match fun between ex-Moor goalkeeper Nick Hayes and Steers, it’s always a pleasure seeing exteammates meeting up, and the mutual respect between the various parties. I was sad to see Nick leave at the end of last season, but hey that’s football, and he has joined a great team down at Barnet

Another Ex-Moor Ben Coker, in this one has just had a coming together with our very own Laurie Walker, it’s a bit quirky, and we did have a giggle when I sent it over to Ben, a lovely guy is Ben, always reminds me of Bruce Forsyth, Good Game, Good Game

Tom was present at the game so he did the “Sharpe end” and I did the “Booty End” so I was able to give Laurie Walker and the defence a bit of love for a change. I’ve watched opposition keepers reactions over seasons to when their respective teams have scored against Moors, at this game I watched Laurie closely as it was against his old club, I watched as our 1st and 2nd goals were scored and got a couple of decent shots of Laurie celebrating, but they unfortunately weren’t facing me, but still sent them up to the media team with the note “ Laurie enjoyed that”, when the 4th went in I shouted to Laurie as he looked over I took this shot, Seb had already changed the Full Time graphic three times

Soli the Moorkat promoting the new sponsors of the youth and Junior teams from the Moors foundation, at the Barnet game there were several hundred children from the said teams having fun on the 3G pitch, having a good working relationship with the foundation, namely Becci, Joe and Sam, I always enjoy working with the team and on this occasion photographing D O W T K or Day Out With The Kids, where they were presented with a pass to give discounted days out, and yes I do know who is in the costume, to any kids reading this he’s a real Meerkat

SOLIHULLMOORSFOUNDATION

It wasn’t just a great day on the pitch on Saturday when Solihull Moors welcomed Barnet to Damson Park.

Hundreds of the club’s Junior and Youth teams made the day extra special by coming along to formally launch our partnership with Day Out With the Kids who are sponsoring the junior sides this season. Having collected their free annual DOWTK pass, which will allow all of our players and families to spend time together at hundreds of attractions, the young players were greeted by Soli the mascot as they made their way to the DOWTK pitch and took part in a special Football Olympics session. First team players came along to join the fun and then everyone made their way into the stadium to see Moors beat the league leaders 4-3.

Becci Fox, Head of the Foundation told us:

“It was an amazing day and we want to thank James Morgan and DOWTK for their incredible support. That backing means we will soon be opening the doors of our Community Hub, a space which will allow us to run many more days like Saturday and give us somewhere to host everyone before Moors matches.

“The sun shone, everyone enjoyed their day and a big result for the team meant everyone was a winner on Saturday.”
