EALES DARRYL
Welcome to today’s game against Southend United and it’s a pleasure to host their fans, players and officials.
Firstly, I’m delighted to wish Andy Whing a happy birthday for yesterday - 40 years young and he doesn’t look a day over ….!!!
We return to Damson Parkway today after two away trips to Yeovil and Rochdale. To pick up 6 points against two tough rivals is a superb achievement. Both the results and the performances were outstanding.
I’d like you to especially thank our magnificent away support at both these games - together with the landlady of the Cask and Feathers for her hospitality and her insistence on serving jagerbombs before the game!
I think the away games are always special and we are looking at new initiatives to encourage more fans to join us on what are generally great days out.
The two away victories followed a home loss against Forest Green where again I felt we played well and deserved at least a share of the spoils.
We now have 2 exciting home games, today and then on Tuesday against table topping York City.
We are nearing the 12 game mark which in my opinion is when the league starts to take shape but I think most of us feel that it is a wide open league this season with many teams believing that this could be their year!
It’s also a great pleasure to welcome Andrea Pettinello to the game today. He has travelled all the way from Italy.
He came to a game about 18 months ago but the game was unfortunately called off. We managed to rescue the situation whereby Petti met the manager and then we shared a few drinks in the bar whilst watching England on the TV! Catch up with him on his social media at Il Calcio Inglese (@calcioinglese).
Finally, many of you will have seen the launch of the new National League cup competition this week.
The club always tries to be open minded and support new initiatives proposed by the National League.
However, on this occasion, and after much discussion with Stephen Ward and Andy Whing, we could not find any justification or attraction for this new competition. In our view, it will introduce more games into an already congested season, increase the risk of players getting injured, damage the pitch during the non growing season and, indeed, they will be games which supporters will not wish to attend in large numbers.
More broadly, it’s not obvious what overall benefit there is to the National League unless it is connected to a deal whereby we achieve the long desired 3 promotion places into League 2.
I hope supporters understand the rationale for the club’s decision not to participate.
Best wishes,
Darryl

PRE-MATCH WITH THE BOSS
CLARKEY’S CORNER
We caught up with James Clarke following Moors’ hardfought away win over Rochdale, with the defender returning to the XI after suspension.
Q: Clarkey, back into the starting XI and what a display to get three points away at Rochdale.
A: Yeah, they’ve been on a great run so far this season winning the last four. The lads have put in some massive shifts over the last three games which I missed out on. When I came in today, I just wanted to take on what they already put out there and I feel like we did that today and it was a great defensive performance.
Q: How important is it to concentrate for over 90 minutes of football and make sure you ’ re at 100%?
A: That’s our job. I think from the defence we can see everything from back there so it’s our responsibility to talk some of the lads through it who
IT WAS A GREAT DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE
can’t see behind them. We always say in football that defence starts from the front. I thought when Bradley Stevenson came on, he was incredible, his work rate was outstanding as well as Conor (Wilkinson).
Q: How big was Laurie Walker’s shift at the end to keep us in the lead?
A: It’s always going to happen when a teams chasing a game, even though we controlled the most part of the game, they had something to chase for toward the end but thats what he’s there to do and he’s pulled off some really good saves to keep us in front to secure the all important three points against them.

MATCH ACTION
Conor Wilkinson's chipped finish was the difference at Huish Park, as Solihull Moors won 0-1 in the Vanarama National League.
Conor Wilkinson scored his first league goal of the season as Solihull Moors beat Yeovil Town 0-1 at Huish Park, to win their second away game of the campaign.
Moors took the lead with Conor Wilkinson opening his account for the season. A long ball over the top of the Yeovil defence was picked up by Wilkinson, who saw Wright off his line and audaciously chipped the ball over the keeper to make it 0-1.
Yeovil had the ball in the back of the net when a free kick was headed home by Jake Wannell, but the defender was ruled to be offside by the linesman as the goal was ruled out.
Despite the late pressure from the hosts, Solihull would hold on to a valuable win at Huish Park.
MATCH ACTION
Conor Wilkinson made it three goals in two games, as the Moors won consecutive away games with a 1-2 win over Rochdale at the Crown Oil Arena.
Conor Wilkinson’s brace was enough for Solihull Moors to pick up another away win in the National League, after beating Rochdale 1-2 at the Crown Oil Arena.
Moors took the lead through Conor Wilkinson. From a Rochdale goal-kick, Wilkinson won the ball inside the Rochdale penalty area before finishing in the top left corner to make it 0-1.
Moors doubled their lead with Wilkinson doubling his tally for the day. Osborne’s pass was controlled by Wilkinson deep inside the Rochdale half, with the striker then running through on goal and placing the ball past David Robson to make it 0-2 to the Moors.
Rochdale cut the deficit in half with Kairo Mitchell continuing his hot streak. Allarahkia cut the ball on his right-foot, before the ball bundled its way into Mitchell, who finished into the goal to make it 1-2.

Solihull Moors were held to a hard-fought draw on their opening home fixture of the 2022/23 Vanarama National League campaign by Southend United.
Andrew Dallas got the Moors off to a flying start, before the visitors grabbed a foothold in the contest and equalised through Chris Wreh in the second half.
The Scotsman latched onto a cutting-edge Callum Maycock through ball to slot past Steve Arnold from eight yards out. A second goal in as many games for last season ’ s top scorer.
Following some smart link-up play, Wreh curled a brilliant left-footed effort into the top corner from outside the penalty area following a lay-off from Callum Powell.

SOLIHULLMOORS FOUNDATION
This weekend we will be welcoming Sam and Ryan who are testicular cancer survivors.
They run social media pages on Facebook and Instagram (Cancer Lads) to support other men with cancer and also to raise awareness of different cancers.
The guys are planning on raising awareness of testicular cancer at all 92 English League stadiums whilst raising money for charities and raising awareness of the Teenage Cancer Trust and Trekstock. The guys will be giving out cards to men informing them of the signs and symptoms and showing them how to check their balls.
Their hope to raise awareness and save lives. Alongside this, they will be walking around the stadium doing a bucket collection for Solihull Moors Foundation.
The monies raised will help support the vital work that is going on within the community of Solihull that promotes mental health and physical wellbeing to slow the most vulnerable to feel support and cared for .
Donations can be made by popping any cash in the buckets that will be based around the stadium or card donations can be made on the day outside turnstile 1 and 2.
SOLIHULLMOORS WOMENS RESERVES
Dominant first-half display wraps up three points for Moors Women’s Reserves against Worcester City.
Two first-half goals were enough to secure all three points for the Women’s reserves against a strong Worcester City Women Reserve side, on the road for the second consecutive week after defeat at Redditch United.
Moors put in a superlative performance to give themselves a welcome boost in the West Midlands Regional Women’s Football League Division One South, having been promoted last season.
Eva Cassidy 17, on loan from the Moor’s 1st team, opened the scoring for the visitors in the 8th minute, and then emerging talent 16-year-old Caitlin Sankey scored the decisive winner in the 38th minute to give Moors the win.
With this result Moors rise to 6th in the table after two games played.
Chloe Cumberbatch was named the Moors player of the match after an impressive performance.
Up next for the reserves is an away trip to Droitwich Spa LFC First next Sunday 22nd September at Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre.
WELCOME
Welcome to Damson Park, Southend United!
We’d like to thank all the visiting Southend United supporters who have made the 162 mile trip to the West Midlands for this afternoon’s match.
