EALES DARRYL

Welcome to tonight’s game against York City and it’s a great pleasure to host their supporters, players and officials.

As you are no doubt aware, the game on Saturday was overshadowed by the statement made on Friday which raised a series of important concerns and frustrations being experienced by Moors Women’s first team.

The situation is complex because Moors Women’s are part of the Solihull Moors Foundation and hence the club has no day to day involvement or, indeed, any direct jurisdiction.

There are certainly no winners in such a situation and as Chairman of the club and a big supporter of the Foundation, I am dismayed that collectively we find ourselves in such a position which should have been resolved by compromise, dialogue and understanding others point of view. This is our collective failure.

The above having been said, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive and friendly community club and, with the concerns being raised, I immediately sought a meeting with the Foundation and representatives of the Women’s team.

The meeting was held on Sunday and I felt was very positive. It was acknowledged that the club had no prior knowledge of many of the issues raised and hence it was somewhat unfair to bracket the club as in someway responsible.

I think anyone who knows me will confirm, that once I am aware of an issue, I will ensure it is discussed and resolved, one way or another, and quickly.

The meeting on Sunday clearly demonstrated one fundamental issue - poor communication channels - and we have now addressed this immediately such that any future issues will be dealt with rapidly.

As I say, the meeting was positive, amicable and most of all, everyone was as one in their love for and desire to support the club and the Foundation and everyone resolved to do better collectively.

To remind everyone, our Foundation does a superb job in supporting the local community, schools and people especially through promoting participation, inclusion and diversity through sport, especially helping the disadvantaged and underprivileged.

It was the Foundation that set up the Women’s pathway and they have a dedicated team of volunteers who achieve remarkable outcomes but the issues raised remind all of us all that we can never be complacent and must always try to do better.

The club supports the Foundation in every way it can and I think everyone knows that it is close to my heart.

EALES DARRYL

Indeed it is a key reason why I have dedicated the last 6 years in trying to build Moors - club and Foundation - on and off the pitch. We have come a long way over this period and will now take on board and review how we can work better together as we all share a love of this wonderful community club.

The issues raised by the Women’s team are now being addressed collectively and positively - and, equally importantly, privately.

One immediate action was to switch the Women’s first team game to the Damson Park stadium pitch tomorrow which allows the game to go ahead.

I’d like to apologise to the Youth and Junior teams whose training sessions have had to be postponed and thank the Foundation and club staff who have offered to work extra hours enable the game to go ahead.

This is a true team effort which exemplifies what we can achieve when we all work together in a spirit of co-operation.I will personally ensure all remaining issues are discussed and will make myself available to the Women’s team management and players so that any concerns in future can be raised directly with me.

Accentuating the positive, I feel this provides a timely opportunity to really focus on the club working with the Foundation to reassess how our women’s pathway can be developed to create the best opportunity for girls in the local community to participate in competitive football.

Any agreed solution needs to be sustainable and to be successful Both these elements can be achieved through us working collectively together and we will continue to talk with all of the stakeholders to get the right structure in place to make this happen

In the meantime, please give the Foundation your full and vociferous support as they really are a force for good in the local community.

Best wishes,

MATCH ACTION

SOLIHULLMOORS SOUTHEND 1 2

Solihull Moors suffered consecutive home defeats in the National League as they were beaten 4-2 by Southend United in an enthralling encounter at Damson Park.

The away side continued their ascendency and broke the deadlock in the 19th minute when Adam Crowther’s long-range pass was beautifully controlled by Keenan Appiah-Forson, who cut inside the penalty area and placed his effort into the far corner.

The home side was punished for lacking attacking verve when Southend doubled their lead before the half-hour as Pepple picked up the ball on the edge of the area and unleashed an inch-perfect strike into the bottom corner.

The Moors were then given a lifeline when Wilkinson’s excellent hold-up play fed Sam Bowen, who powered in his first goal of the season to revive the game.

Kyle Hudlin’s moment of brilliance helped fire Moors to a 4-0 victory over National League North side Farsley Celtic in the FA Trophy Third Round on Saturday.

Then with the half lacking any real quality, Hudlin came to the fore. Collecting the ball from Stephen Gleeson, he turned and from 20 yards, struck a curling effort into the top corner.

It was a moment of class from the 20-year-old, one which lit up a very tight first half and saw Shan’s side take a 1-0 lead into the break.

One for the dubious goals committee but there was no doubting Archer’s next contribution, a low driven strike which gave Moors their third goal of the game.

And substitute Archer was heavily involved in the home side’s fourth, his neat low cut-back was well-tucked home by Hancox.

ACTIONSHOTSWITHDICKY!

Photographer Richard ‘Dicky’ King chose his five best photos from Saturday’s defeat to Southend United.

1/ Jordan Tunnicliffe having a bit of trouble with his shorts during the warm-up, these are the moments many of the supporters miss, but being able as a photographer and being up close they’re rather easier for me to spot.

2/ One you don’t see very often Soli and Mr. Chairman as I usually address him together, this kills off any rumours that Soli and Darryl are one and the same.

3/ My son Tom was shooting this game with me, something I enjoy doing, he usually does the ‘Sharp End’ and I cover the ‘Booty End’ this gives me a chance to get pictures of the defence, in this one Alex Whitmore is dueling, ready to head the ball.

ACTIONSHOTSWITHDICKY!

4/ Whilst doing the defending end it gives me a chance to wander around a bit, as Tom has any goal celebrations covered, in this one ‘The Gaffer’ is deep in thought silhouetted against the newly named ‘Forest End’ signage.

5/ Laurie Walker in full flight taking a goal kick, great body shape and both feet off the ground makes it a nice photograph, nicely framed and un-edited , just what I like.

SOLIHULLMOORS FOUNDATION

On Saturday, we welcomed Sam and Ryan who are testicular cancer survivors.

They run social media pages on Facebook and Instagram (Cancer Lads) to support other men with cancer and also to raise awareness of different cancers.

The guys are planning on raising awareness of testicular cancer at all 92 English League stadiums whilst raising money for charities and raising awareness of the Teenage Cancer Trust and Trekstock.

At our match against Southend United, Sam and Ryan were on duty collecting donations from generous supporters

The monies raised will help support the vital work that is going on within the community of Solihull that promotes mental health and physical wellbeing to slow the most vulnerable to feel support and cared for .

In total, the duo raised over £250 for the Solihull Moors Foundation and the work they do within mental health.

The Club would like to thank Sam and Ryan for their efforts on Saturday.

WELCOME

Welcome to Damson Park, York City!

We’d like to thank all the visiting York City supporters who have made the 135 mile trip to the West Midlands for this afternoon’s match.

MEET THE BOSS

AdamHinshelwood

The attack-minded manager joined the Minstermen on a long-term deal in February 2024, following over six-years at Worthing FC. Hinshelwood’s promotion to the National League South was halted twice during both the 2019–20 and 2020–21 seasons, with their eventual promotion secured in 2022 after keeping up on their relentless title-winning form to complete a full season.

Hinshelwood also brought two key major staff members with him to the LNER Community Stadium, namely Gary Elphick and Cameron Morrison.

Ollie Pearce joined the Minstermen from Worthing in 2024 following an incredibly successful six-year stint on England’s South Coast. After several years at Bognor Regis Town, Pearce made the move along the coast in 2018 to join The Rebels Six years later, with 245 appearances under his belt, Pearce departed The Rebels with 155 goals to his name to link up with City. Pearce initially scooped a Golden Boot (35 goals) and a place in the Premier Division Team of the Season, which added to his title winner’s medal in 2021/22.

Dipo Akinyemi joined for an undisclosed fee from Ayr United in the summer of 2023 after finishing the season as the Scottish Championship top scorer and Player of the Year. The forward scored 24 goals and made 11 assists in 45 appearances in all competitions in his 2022/23 campaign Akinyemi has previously been prolific in National League South with Welling United and Dulwich Hamlet too. A fans’ favourite at the LNER Community Stadium already, Akinyemi bagged 15 goals in his first Minstermen campaign to finish as top goalscorer and top assister.
