It’s FA Cup day!

I think everyone probably shares my excitement about the FA Cup and the prize today is the opportunity to get through to the 3rd round for the first time in Moors history.

I’m not sure whether fate has treated us favourably or unfavourably as we take on Bromley with whom we had 4 epic games last season.

The sides were very closely matched but, of course, Bromley secured the massive prize of promotion to League 2. They have strengthened their squad and are handily placed in the table.

They will, as always, present a tough, physical challenge and we will have to be at our most robust to ensure we are competitive in all areas of the pitch

It is a pleasure to welcome their Board, players and fans to Damson Park today as well as a huge welcome to the ITV team who are broadcasting the game live on terrestrial TV

I’m delighted to announce, on such an exciting day, that Cardinal Steels have taken over the sponsorship of the Main Stand and would like to especially thank Jake Broadhurst for his brilliant support.

Reflecting on the four league games since our win against Maidstone United in the last round of the cup, our results have been disappointingly below expectation.

chairman notes

DARRYL EALES

Diagnosis of the issues is easily explained by the combination of our inability to hold comfortable leads, the porosity of our defence, much of which has been self inflicted, and too much in game inconsistency. Too often, we have seemed to lack the desire and intensity of the opposing teams and, speaking as a fan, this is unacceptable.

Correspondingly, some of our attacking play has been top draw but we will never win enough games if scoring 3 isn’t sufficient.

The minimum we expect today is a full on, committed and competitive performance. In my view, we probably have as talented squad of players as there has been under my Chairmanship, but talent needs to be accompanied by heart and todays game is an ideal opportunity for the team to stand up and be counted.

Andy Whing, the coaching team supported by Stephen Ward need to pool their collective experience to address our frailty and get the best out of a talented group.

Based on our conversations, I am confident that the poor run of form, especially at home, can be rectified and the run up to Christmas provides an idea opportunity to make up ground and put ourselves in the play off picture.

However, the next 2 weeks provide a short break from the league with a home FA Trophy game against Radcliffe on 7th December and, of course, the highly anticipated game this afternoon.

It is a brilliant opportunity to showcase Moors and test ourselves against strong opposition. Please give the team your full support and enjoy what should be a wonderful occasion.

Hello and a warm welcome to all home and visiting Bromley fans to today’s game from the Solihull Moors Supporters Association.

MATCH ACTION

SOLIHULL HARTLEPOOL 3 4

Solihull Moors suffered a disappointing defeat against Hartlepool United in a chaotic National League encounter at Damson Park.

In the 17th minute, the Moors gifted Hartlepool the lead when a defensive mix-up between Laurie Walker and Sam Bowen played in Adam Campbell, whose tucked sliding effort found the net.

It took 33 minutes before the home side fashioned their first meaningful opportunity. Bradley Stevenson latched onto a long ball and passed to Conor Wilkinson, but the forward couldn’t replicate his ruthlessness at Ebbsfleet and blazed over the bar.

However, just moments later, Wilkinson wouldn’t make the same mistake. He received Stevenson’s penetrative pass and coolly slotted past Brad Young for his fifth goal in the last four games.

The Moors’ happiness was shortlived when Joe Grey’s header looped over Walker to regain the advantage for the visitors. Walker was busy again and parried Mani Dierseruvwe’s effort wide

The home side’s electric start to the second half was rewarded when Warburton calmly swept in after Wilkinson’s marauding run to level the score.

In the 58th minute, the Moors completed an incredible quick-fire turn-around when Stevenson smashed in from close range. In the next attack of the match, Grey’s second header equalised for the Monkey Hangers.

It was Hartlepool’s turn to reverse the script when Dierseruvwe bundled in Luke Charman’s menacing delivery to put the visitors ahead. Charman, Grey and Luke Waterfall came agonizingly close to extending Hartlepool’s lead Stevenson and Wilkinson’s rasping shots also trickled closely wide.

The last 20 minutes petered out as Hartlepool stood firm and limited the Moors to hopeful long-range shots.

It was the Moors’ first defeat at Damson Park since the 24th September and also signalled the end of a three-game unbeaten run. The result leaves the Midlands-based side one point off the play-offs.

The Moors return to action on Tuesday 26th November when they travel to South London to play Sutton United in the National League.

SUTTON

Solihull Moors were left frustrated at Gander Green Lane, as a first-half Jack Wadham goal was enough for Sutton United to win 1-0.

After eight minutes, the Moors had the first chance of the game as some good play on the left-hand side saw Joe Newton play a pass for Sam Bowen on the edge of the box, who passes the ball for Jamey Osborne to strike from 20 yards out. But his shot went over the bar.

Six minutes later, the hosts took the lead after Ashley Nadesan chased a long ball towards the right-hand corner flag before he crossed the ball to Jack Wadham to score past Laurie Walker and make it 1-0

On 20 minutes, a cross from Nadesan deflected off Alex Whitmore and bounced off the Moors’ post before going out of play for a corner.

On 32 minutes, the Moors broke on the counterattack through Michael Adu-Poku dribbling down the right-hand side. He got to the penalty area and struck across goal, forcing Jack Sims into a good save behind the post.

In the final minute of the first half, the away side increased the pressure with John Bostock having a shot from 30 yards out. However, his effort went over the bar as the teams went into the break.

In the second half, the hosts began with Charlie Waller bringing the ball forward 40 yards before the ball fell into the path of Nadesan, who forces a save from Walker at his near post.

On 54 minutes, there was a penalty shout for the Moors when Conor Wilkinson had felt he had touched the ball ahead of Sutton goalkeeper Jack Sims.

After 61 minutes, Adu-Poku ran down the right-hand side before cutting inside and striking towards goal with his left foot but failed to hit the target.

On 66 minutes, Sutton enjoyed a bit of possession with Will Davies turning and having an early shot towards goal, with Walker making the initial save before the ball was cleared.

With five minutes of regular time to play, Joe Newton had the ball at the byline and played a cross towards the centre of the penalty area; but Bostock’s shot went over the bar.

Despite the late pressure from Andy Whing’s side, the hosts held on to claim all three points.

LAST TIME OUT

Bromley won promotion to the Football League via spot-kicks, shattering Moors’ dreams of promotion at the home of Football.

Despite goals from Joe Sbarra and Jamey Osborne, two missed penalties caused Andy Whing’s side to suffer defeat as Byron Webster’s penalty ended our hopes of promotion to the EFL.

Solihull Moors Women suffered defeat to Notts County in Joe Kirkland's first fixture as manager.

Despite the rainy conditions, both teams started out positively and were eager to make their mark on the game.

However, it was Notts County who took the early lead, as Knott latched onto the end of Brooks' corner.

It wasn’t long before an opportunity opened up the other end, with a free kick from Alex Liddiard which narrowly scraped the top of the bar.

As the half drew to a close, County widened the gap with a strike through Lily Stevenson, just sliding past Georgie ann Buttle.

With the second half underway, Moors came outwith a revived approach to the game;

NOTTS 5

Tomlins made a lovely strike from the edge of the box but was denied by the keeper.

Not long into the half, County scored their third, as Vine took the ball round Buttle and smashing it straight into the empty net, despite the efforts of Floss Chambers to block the shot.

Moors had found their footing, and the game became a lot more even, with both teams creating opportunities for themselves, but after a scramble in the box, and the ball squirming its way through bodies, County led with four as Knott eventually put the ball in the back of the net.

Moors continued to push and work hard in the last few minutes but a fifth scored through Stevenson consigned Solihull to defeat.
