EALES DARRYL

Good afternoon and welcome to today’s league game against Braintree Town We extend a warm welcome especially to fans, players and officials from our visitors

We are 3 games into the new season and already there have been highs and lows!

The home win against Maidenhead was well deserved, against opponents who have been something of a bogey team in recent seasons

I think Andy Whing’s post match interview summed up the general view of the follow up lack lustre performance against Eastleigh on Tuesday evening

Two disappointing aspects for me are our slow starts to games this season and that we have probably only played well in 2 of 6 halves to date

In mitigation, we have had a somewhat disrupted pre season partly due to injuries and new signings often take time to fully settle.

The good news is that we feel we have a strong, balanced squad but as Whingy always says, “you have to earn the right in games” and first and foremost, we need to get on the front foot in games, out compete and win our duals, show resilience and then our quality will win out

I mentioned in my last notes that I’ll pick up on themes that arose at the recent fans forum and today, I want to focus on attendances and, then next week, commercial revenues

I think we all share a desire to see our attendances increase This undoubtedly puts us at a disadvantage against other teams challenging and is something which needs a collective effort to address.

Hopefully, we have largely addressed supporters’ concerns about ticket priced and again, our overall prices are pitched at below average for the league, despite our playoff ambitions

The club is aiming to work more closely with the SMSA and the Foundation to drive new initiatives to bring families to games and improve the match day experience

With this in mind, I’m delighted that we have secured a 3 year partnership with Day Out with the Kids (DOWTK), a local Solihull business, whose CEO, James Morgan, and family are Moors fans.

Not only are DOWTK sponsoring the family stand and the 3G arena but also the front of shirts for our Youth and Junior teams This is an incredible commitment by a James and his team

As the largest UK attractions website business with ticketing recently launched, we hope to be able to bring offers to all Moors supporters as well as bringing attractions to Moors, to enhance family fun on match days

We are also close to launching a new bar next to the burger van which will become an alternative fan zone and help manage bar queues at peak times.

If you have ideas for innovating match day ideas, please let the club or SMSA know

We have also re-launched the Midland season ticket holder discount and hope that you can encourage friends who support other local teams to come and experience games

Finally, if each of us can bring 1 additional person to games regularly, we will break through the magic 2000 attendance barrier on a consistent basis It really needs a concerted team effort and hopefully we can all play our part

Enjoy the game!

MATCH ACTION

SOLIHULL MAIDENHEAD 2 1

Solihull Moors grab their first win of the season thanks to goals from Matt Warburton and Tahvon Campbell.

The Moors immediately took the lead after Warburton’s cross which looked like an easy gather for Craig Ross in goal, however the keeper misjudged the ball’s flight with the cross finding the back of the net.

In the 55th minute a great cross came in from the right hand side from James Gale with Tahvon Campbell on hand to apply his trademark finish into the back of the net to double our lead.

MATCH ACTION

EASTLEIGH

2 1

A late Bradley Stevenson goal was not enough for Solihull Moors to claim a point at the Silverlake Stadium, as they lost 2-1 against Eastleigh in the National League.

The Spitfires took the lead in the third minute through their captain Jake Taylor. After the Moors lost the ball in a dangerous position, Paul McCallum squared the ball for Taylor to score into an empty net and make it 1-0.

After ten minutes, Eastleigh scored their second through McCallum. A cross from the left-hand side made its way to Scott Quigley, who floated the ball to McCallum who nodded the ball across goal.

Nathan Blissett scored a hat-trick as Solihull Moors went top of the National League table with a 6-1 win at Chorley.

Few sides have been able to live with Tim Flowers' men of late and the writing was on the wall for Chorley with 14 minutes gone.

Paul McCallum was the scorer, finishing from an angle after Jamey Osborne's through ball.

Blissett made it 2-0 four minutes before half-time with a close-range finish and added a third seven minutes after the interval when he stabbed in from a corner.

Alex Newby gave Chorley hope but Blissett snuffed it out just before the hour after neat build-up play from Osborne.

There was still time for McCallum to score from the spot and Danny Wright to add a sixth.

This summer, we hosted a holiday camp filled with fun and engaging activities that kept the kids energized and excited every day.

Some of our children eagerly awaited this adventure!

From thrilling tournaments to our very own Football Olympics, the children had countless opportunities to learn new skills, make friends, and most importantly, have a blast!

One of the highlights was our trip to Ninja Warrior. Some of our children had eagerly awaited this adventure, and it was a joy to watch them challenge themselves on the course while having a great time.

In addition to all the fun, we ensured the children were wellnourished by providing hot meals each day, keeping them fueled for the activities ahead. We also offered a few lucky kids the unforgettable experience of being flag bearers and ball retrievers at the first team games a moment they’ll cherish forever.

A big thank you to everyone who made this summer such a success. Your dedication and hard work have truly made a difference in these children's lives. Let’s keep up the great work as we move forward!

SOLIHULLMOORS WOMEN

Solihull Moors Women slipped to a late defeat to Sutton Coldfield Town in their opening game of the season. The visitors got the game underway and were denied an opener on the eight-minute mark with Timson getting down low to make a crucial save to keep the score level.

Moors tested the Sutton keeper through Winters down the lefthand side cuts inside before laying it off to Tomlins who saw her shot saved by the Sutton number one. Timson was called into action not long after this with the Sutton Coldfield winger being released on the left side but she was halted by a rushing Timson who was brave and claimed the ball.

Solihull came close to breaking the deadlock again through Watters as she cut inside from the right to fire a shot at the keeper.

Our Substitute keeper Upson was called into action almost immediately, forcing a fierce strike over the bar. The resulting corner saw Sutton hit the bar and ex-Moors player Eva Rogers was there to put it in the back of the net.

Despite a valiant final ten minutes which saw us pushing for the equalising goal, the referee again halted proceedings with Sutton coming away with all three points.

SOLIHULLMOORS ACADEMY

The Midlands Floodlit Youth League continued with another win as the Moors Elite beat Coventry Copeswood 4-1 on Monday night.

We’re raring to go!

We caught up with Mike Fowler to discuss how prepartion has been, with the coach saying: “The lads have come back fit and worked hard over the summer, the conditions have been good.”

“The intake of players is an exciting one, we’ve got a lot of talented lads that have come out of some big academy’s. They’ve apadted well and have exceeded our expectations.”

“The second years have returned and done well in the off season, they’ve used their time well and there’s been some notable improvements coming back into the group.”

“They’ve gone into men’s football playing at step four, five and six as well which is really pleasing to see.”

“It’s been a really good pre-season, Richard Stearman has helped a lot, having him around his been great to bounce off. His addition gives us a lot to work with and we’re looking forward to this season.”

INSIDE DAMSON PARK

FIN HODSON-COX

I first got involved with Solihull Moors about three and a half years ago when the Elite Academy was established. I joined as a coach, and in my second year, I was promoted to head of academy coaching. After some discussions with Neal Ardley, I then transitioned into the role of head of sports science, a position I've held for the past two seasons and am now entering my third.

When it comes to my favourite memory in this role, I'd have to say it was our 4-0 victory away at Barnet in the play-off semi-finals, securing our place at Wembley for the second time. Although the season was long and we ultimately fell short in the final, the atmosphere in the changing room after that win remains one of the best moments I've experienced in football.

As for a typical week, Mondays are focused on fatigue testing to ensure the players are in good shape. Throughout the week on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday I manage the players' training loads. Tuesday afternoons include a gym session, along with other essential tasks like warm-ups and individual development plans (IDP) for the lads. These IDPs include some extra work on the pitch, making sure it's in line with their training loads, and providing them with additional support to improve.

The part of my job I enjoy most is match day. The energy in the changing room, the warm-ups, and just being around the team is something special. Away days are particularly enjoyable, especially after a win, as the journey back on the coach with the team is always a highlight.

ACTION SHOTS WITH ‘DICKY’

DickyKing

The latest pictures from Dicky King from our last two games are in!

1/ Alex Whitmore in full flight from a Moors corner, heading it back into the mix, I don’t really get much opportunity to get pictures of our defence as I’m usually “Up The Sharp End” covering the goal celebrations as those are the ones the supporters want to see, just as a Side note, if Tom my Son is shooting the game with me he gets the “sharp End” and I do the “Booty End” covering the defence, it was called that after Ryan Boot, and it was called that for so long , it’s now ensconced into Moors history.

2/ Matty Warburton bringing the ball under control, a nice action shot, just one problem I cut his standing foot off, but otherwise a decent picture, I had the pleasure of meeting his Mother and Father at Flyde away, a lovely couple, Joe Sbarra used to call Matt The Breadman, I like to keep up that tradition.

3/ Conor Wilkinson, on his debut trying to round the defender, how a big man get down that low at speed I don’t know, a nice picture as the is a little bit of symmetry within it. Wilkinson should be a great signing for Moors, indeed it’s a great signing for me as he’s told me he will never chase me for pictures, all the more for Stevo and Tippo then.

4/ Ozzy walking out at Eastleigh, I could have used any of the squad but I knew a photo of Oz would attract attention, Moors 1st time out in this strip, I’m impressed and it has shot to the top of my favorite Moors shirts, overtaking the last two blue away ones.

5/ Stevo in full flight down the wing, again a bit of Symmetry in the frame. I detest night games as it’s always a struggle with the lighting at this level, to be fair it wasn’t bad at Eastleigh, and I consulted the Eastleigh photographer Graham Scambler, on camera settings which helped considerably, it’s always a pleasure to meet up with Graham, we always have an exchange of banter at Tom’s expense, you’ll have to ask Tom about it. In the Eastleigh programme, at that game was an excellent picture taken by Graham, I’ve shown our lads and told them we need to replicate it in the near future!
