The club are delighted to announce that Chairman Darryl Eales will be participating in the London Marathon on April 27, 2025, to raise vital funds for Cure Leukaemia, a long-standing partner of the club.

Cure Leukaemia has played a key role in supporting blood cancer patients across the UK, and the charity’s logo proudly features on the back of Solihull Moors' home and away jerseys as part of a fundraising commitment to support research nurses and life-saving treatments.

Darryl Eales spoke about his motivation for taking on the challenge, saying:

"Over the past couple of years I have gotten to know James (McLaughlin ) and the Cure Leukaemia team personally, and to witness the incredible work they do.”

“It’s a privilege to support their amazing work and I hope to raise a significant amount to help this fantastic cause. " Cure Leukaemia Chief Executive James McLaughlin expressed his gratitude for Eales’ commitment, emphasizing how vital such fundraising efforts are in helping the charity continue its mission.

The Solihull Moors chairman has had a personal connection to the Blood Cancer illness when a family friend’s daughter was diagnosed with Leukaemia. Fortunately, she was able to battle her way through the illness thanks to her incredible bravery and the wonderful medical intervention by Professor Charlie Craddock and his team, where she was able to recover and live a full and rewarding life.

Supporters can contribute to Darryl Eales’ fundraising campaign by donating through his JustGiving page. It doesn’t matter how big or small your donation is, every little helps. Eales’ target is to reach £10,000 where he will personally match the total funds raised £ for £, so please consider giving generously to help this incredible charity and support the work they do.

chairman notes

Welcome to our Easter Monday game against Boston United and I’d like to wish everyone a very happy Easter.

It’s also a great pleasure to welcome the fans, players and officials from Boston as we look forward to a highly competitive game with both teams looking to gain the points that guarantee safety and finish the season as strongly as possible.

Our visitors have enjoyed a fantastic run of form since the New Year and we will need to be at our best today

It’s that time of the season when, despite focusing on your own results and looking after your own destiny, most of us also analyse others likely results over the remaining fixtures

The points accumulation of the teams nearer the lower end of the table has been remarkable over recent weeks and the table is conertina’d with only 8 points covering the 11 teams between 11th and 21st!

Our last two games have been epic in terms of securing results at both Southend and Tamworth.

Taking 6 points from those two games is a credit to the whole first team staff and, of course, especially the players.

As Chairman, and I am sure I share this sentiment with all our brilliant travelling fans, I was truly proud of the commitment and bodies on the line attitude of the players.

The togetherness which has exemplified the club over many seasons was never more evident than in the second half performance on Friday where we largely controlled the game but had to inevitably withstand their very effecting set piece style and endure 8 additional minutes!

With Conor Wilkinson back in the starting line and being able to start playing a reasonably settled side, the benefits are self evident. The return of Tahvon Campbell is an added bonus - it’s great to see him back!

Finally, the last 2 games amply demonstrated how much the msupport of our fans means so much to the team. Let’s hope that we have a bumper crowd today as we begin the final stretch of the season with 3 of our last 4 games at home.

Best wishes Darryl

ELLIOTTHORPE

Elliot Thorpe may have only been a Solihull Moors player for a few short weeks, but the dynamic midfielder has already made his mark on and off the pitch.

The 24-year-old arrived at the club late in the season with the pressure on and points at a premium. But it’s a challenge Thorpe has embraced, and one he’s already thriving in, having played a key role in last weekend’s vital 1-0 victory away at Southend United

“I’ve only been here a few weeks, but I feel it’s gone well so far,” Thorpe said. “The lads have been really good with me, and I’ve been able to settle in quickly, they’re a really welcoming group ”

Thorpe, who was reunited with Head Coach Matt Taylor after previous spells working together, has hit the ground running since signing.

“Matt knows me very well as a player and as a person, and I think that makes a big difference,” he added. “He’s helped me settle in straight away and given me the confidence to do well and help the team however I can. ”

That confidence was on full display at Roots Hall last Saturday when Thorpe opened his account for the Moors in spectacular fashion, cutting in from the wing before unleashing a curling effort that would ultimately prove to be the match-winner

Elliot Thorpe signs for the Moors just before the deadline closed as Solihull faced a tricky visit to Gloucestershire to take on Forest Green Rovers that coming Saturday and was straight into the starting XI for Matt Taylor

“I always look to be positive, take people on and make things happen,” he explained. “I saw the opening, waited for the right moment, cut inside and shot. I’ve had a bit of stick this week with people saying it was a cross, but I can set the record straight: it was definitely a shot!”

Beyond the goal, Thorpe impressed with an allaction display that helped the team deliver a much-needed result in the push to secure National League safety.

“It was a tough game. I knew their right-back was a top player, so it was about trying to neutralise him and then take my chances going forward,” he said. “We all stuck together, and it was a massive team effort The dressing room after the game was buzzing, the chairman came in, Matt was happy - it was a great moment for all of us ”

With five games remaining, including a big Bank Holiday weekend double-header against Tamworth and Boston United, Thorpe knows there’s still work to be done.

“That win at Southend was huge for us, ” he said. “We were unlucky not to get something at Forest Green, but the performance was there. If we can keep that momentum and belief going into Friday, we give ourselves every chance.”

ACTION SHOTS

The best of the action with Richard King

Laurie Walker at full stretch at Southend, it was good to see the Big Man back between the sticks, pleased he got a clean sheet down there Goalkeepers are always a difficult capture, not only frame but to get the focus right, this one isn’t a bad picture.

hits and Tunny ‘ come up ’ for a corner, I always like this pe of picture when all eyes of the players are on the all. It was a great win to witness down at Southend, nd much needed, and the 1 time Moors have won ere, having only taken a point in all previous meetings.

overed the Moors defending end at Forest Green, as m was with us, this shot is from a F.G.R. corner, just ade me smile as it looks like the start of a Hundred ard dash.

e Dodoo celebrates rescuing a valuable away point at ty, signed only a few hours before kick off, and having t played for nearly two years Dodoo could well be a eat asset to Moors for the “Run-In”.

Manny is about to collide with the Alty keeper, the result was both player receiving treatment, and Lainton was placed in the home goal, the locals were screaming for uku to be shown red. I do like a visit to Altrincham if only r the Fish & Chip shop opposite the ground, the lighting at ght games isn’t the best as there is no reflected light from e stadium.

THREE POINTS AT ROOTS HALL

Elliot Thorpe opened his Solihull Moors account in spectacular fashion, as his first-half rocket proved the difference in a hard-fought 1-0 win over Southend United at Roots Hall.

The Moors started on the front foot and found their breakthrough inside 10 minutes. After Jack WellsMorrison won the ball in midfield, he fed Thorpe on the left. The winger danced inside before curling an unstoppable strike into the top corner an early Goal of the Season contender.

Southend responded with intent, forcing Laurie Walker into a string of key saves.

Noor Husin and Leon Parillon both went close, while Ben Goodliffe cleared a Marcel Oakley effort off the line just before the break after Thorpe led a lightning counterattack.

The second half was all about resilience. Southend threw everything at the Moors, but the backline— led by the outstanding James Clarke stood tall. Goal-line clearances, last-ditch blocks, and another vital save from Walker ensured the clean sheet stayed intact.

Despite late pressure and a few close shaves, the Moors held firm to take all three points back to the Midlands.

DERBY DAY ANTICS

Solihull Moors came from behind to secure a dramatic 2-1 win at local rivals Tamworth, with Alex Whitmore heading home the winner in the 88th minute.

Tamworth took the lead on 26 minutes through Tom McGlinchey, who finished well after a low cross from the left.

The Moors had chances to level before the break, with efforts from Elliot Thorpe, Conor Wilkinson, and John Bostock all testing the home defence.

The equaliser came early in the second half when Thorpe was fouled out wide

His resulting delivery caused chaos in the box, and Wilkinson reacted quickest to slot home from close range. The game remained finely poised, with Laurie Walker producing key saves to keep Moors in it, while Tamworth pushed for a second. However, it was Solihull who found the breakthrough late on Jamey Osborne delivered a pinpoint cross from the left, and Whitmore rose highest to thunder a header past Jas Singh.

In added time, James Clarke made a vital goal-line clearance to deny Kyle Finn and preserve all three points for the Moors in a hard-fought derby victory at The Lamb Ground.

LAST TIME OUT

Jamey Osborne was the hero as he curled in the winner at The Jakemans Community Stadium to beat Boston United 0-1.

In the 17th minute, the Moors took the lead through captain Jamey Osborne. The ball was played to Jack Stevens on the left-hand side before the winger found Osborne on the edge of the penalty area who then curled his lofty effort into the top right corner to hand Solihull the advantage on Boxing Day.

In the first minute of stoppage time, the hosts were reduced to ten men when Jordan Richards brought down Osborne on the counterattack. This foul resulted i Richards receiving his second yellow card, and Boston playing the rest of the game with ten players.

Whitmore made a heroic block to deny a Boston equaliser after a cross from the left-hand side was sent into the path of Jai Rowe, whose shot towards goal was denied by Whitmore.

ELITE ACADEMY

Moors took a significant step toward clinching the league title with a hardfought 2-1 victory over Oldham Athletic, thanks to a late winner from substitute Billy Fielding.

After winning the toss, Moors opted to change ends to take advantage of the strong wind. The conditions paid off early as, just 10 minutes in, Ethan Bracher broke the deadlock with a wind-assisted corner that flew straight into the back of the net.

Moors continued to threaten a second goal, with Kyle Moseley firing over the bar and Bracher seeing a goal ruled out for offside. Despite the pressure, it was Oldham who pulled level on the half-hour mark, scoring directly from a free-kick on the left Sam Smith nearly restored the lead for the home side just before the break after a flurry of corners, but his shot flew narrowly over

Moors dominated possession in the second half, camping in Oldham's half and pushing for a winner.

Their persistence finally paid off 10 minutes from time, when Billy Fielding latched onto a second-phase ball from a corner just outside the box. He took a touch and drilled a low shot into the corner to seal all three points

Solihull are now just three points behind league leaders Farsley Celtic who also won earlier that afternoon.

SWITCH RADIO

If you haven’t met me down the Moors or heard me on the radio, I’m Daniel Jones, I voluntarily commentate on Solihull Moors for local community station Switch Radio, our sports team specialises in covering local grassroots and non-league teams across a range of sports, giving unique coverage to a variety of West Midlands-based sides.

My first foray into commentary began about 25-minutes from Damson Park, at Paget Rangers Football Club in Sutton Coldfield. As part of my placement whilst studying BA Broadcast Journalism at Nottingham Trent University, I provided reports during Ben McPhillips’ Moors commentaries. In my second season I progressed to on-air commentary of full-length matches

As a football fan, commentating was always something which piqued my interest – the chance to give it a go and describe the action to supporters and non-league fans across the West Midlands has truly been an honour. The non-league scene here is incredibly close-knit, and despite being from Bolton, I’ve been warmly welcomed into it, especially here at Solihull Moors.

I got the opportunity to broadcast for this magnificent club when Ben McPhillips stepped back from football commentary. My first match was away at Oldham Athletic, at Boundary Park on Bank Holiday Weekend – and I remember not sleeping for two nights beforehand. I was nervous, not because it was a big moment for me,

but because I was stepping into a role Ben had done so brilliantly. I turned up to the ground four hours early and ended up lapping the stadium trying to settle my nerves.

I found my rhythm throughout the match, which ended with a stoppage-time goal from Josh Kelly to make it 2-0. That moment marked the start of what has genuinely been one of the greatest pleasures of my life – covering the Moors.

Last season was, of course, particularly special – headlined by the unforgettable play-off run and reaching the FA Trophy final. Alongside Dan Horton, Stewart Westley and occasionally Ben McPhillips, we achieved something rare at voluntary level: commentating at Wembley Stadium. It was an experience I’m in disbelief I’ve had the chance to do, even if the results still sting

I also want to express how thankful I am for the kindness and encouragement I have received at Solihull. The club’s incredible fanbase and Supporters Association have been fantastic with me, and that support has made this experience even more special.

Dan Horton and I return for one final away day this season as Moors travel to York City on Saturday 26 April. Coverage begins at 2:55pm as we broadcast from the LNER Community Stadium If you can, get down to the ground to back the boys, but if you can’t we’d to have you along for live commentary on Switch Sport Xtra, available on DAB and online via the Switch Radio website

MATCH SPONSOR

Solihull Moors would like to thank the SMSA for their generosity in giving Birmingham Hospice the opportunity to be Match Sponsors on Monday when we welcome Boston United to Damson Park in the Vanarama National league

The Supporters Association were given the opportunity to sponsor Monday’s game against the Pilgrims but passed that on to Birmingham Hospice after an online vote in which fans chose the charity

Birmingham Hospice have around 800 patients in their care on average every day and continue to provide expert, specialist and compassionate palliative and end of life care, now and in years to come.

But costs are rising, making it harder for them to care for everyone who needs it. That’s why they have launched the Birmingham Hospice Crisis Appeal. They believe that end of life care should be centrally funded.
