EALES DARRYL

Good afternoon to one and all for today’s game against table topping Barnet FC and we extend a warm welcome to their supporters, players and officials

Everyone is aware of the strength of the Barnet team and today will be another test of our progress It’s sure to be a high intensity and we will need to be at our best

It is appropriate to begin these notes to pay tribute to the contribution of John Mowl, who sadly passed away this week after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease.

John was Chairman of Moor Green from the late 80’s until 1991 and later went on to support Solihull Borough regularly to watch Nick his son (Nick)play and he continued to be a huge supporter of the merged club until illness meant he could no longer attend games

He was a driver in the creation of the Moors Foundation and played a key part, with Richard Beale, in creating the Nick Mowl Cup, an annual competition held at Moors which raises much needed money for the mental health charity Kaleidoscope

Personally John was very helpful and kind to me when I took over the club and his cheerful disposition was always a delight

Everyone at the club sends their condolences to John’s family He will always be fondly remembered at Moors

Turning back to on the pitch matters, I am sure all fans will be aware of the frustrations our run of injuries is causing

Over the summer, we felt we had built a squad that would be challenging the top end of the table - indeed this remains the case - but hitherto Whingy has not been able to select from anything like a full strength squad

We felt that we had strength throughout the core of the team especially bringing in Bostock and Tunnicliffe and we had 4 exciting attacking options with Wilkinson, Stevens, Campbell and Gale.

We have now supplemented this with a bit more pace, being delighted to secure Michael Adu-Poku from Watford.

We are leaving no stone unturned to establish whether the injuries- most of which are muscle based - are just bad luck or whether our training regime, prehab, loading etc can be improved

Having said the above, our squad which is currently available, in my view is a match for anyone and this has been demonstrated in recent performances especially Oldham away where I thought we were superb

Recent performances have also provided opportunities to show our squad depth and it was great to see Joss Labadie get his first goal for the club and the impressive performances of Finn Howell and Kian Ryley

The past week was all about the magic of the FA Cup and to come through against Altrincham on penalties was superb

We now face a home tie against Maidstone United in a couple of weeks and we have hopefully priced the game keenly to encourage a big gate It is the 8th consecutive year that Moors have reached the first round!

We can still dream of progressing and eventually getting to play in the 3rd round against one of the big boys - let’s hope so!

We need to big up our squad and players - and reinforce that we have the squad that you both wanted ahead of the season and it is a match for any in the league - do you disagree?

I know we have had injuries but that’s life - otherwise it seems to me that we have a better squad than last season and we need to front foot this - and stop worrying about the opposition.

Our away form is incredible - the only reason we are not in top 3 is our poor home form - they are the same players!

Overall - more positivity please and a greater sense of fun and enjoyment

Today is also a special day as we formally launch our partnership with Day Out With The Kids and it’s a pleasure to welcome James Morgan and his team

We also have around 1000 parents and kids from our youth and junior teams which is wonderful to see

It should be a great day and a great match

ELITE ACADEMY

Mike Fowler’s U18s advance to the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup with a dominant 2-0 win away at Boston.

It took a few minutes for the Moors to arrive into the tie, but their first real forward threat came via Malaki Miller. The midfielder picked up a loose ball in the Boston midfield before making a darting run into the Boston penalty area before being taken down. Any shouts for a penalty were waved away by the referee.

Caiden Robinson made a superb challenge to win Solihull the ball back, before finding Billy Fielding who whipped a cross deep into the Boston penalty area which somehow evades a white shirt.

Zach Marsh sent a ball forward for Boston which Jimmy Richardson was able to read well, heading deep into Pilgrims territory. Moseley collected the forward ball before finding Timbrell on the edge of the area whose shot is blocked for a Solihull corner.

However, Moors were able to clear their lines.

Mike Fowler’s side would take the lead on the hour mark through the captain, Kyle Moseley. The forward spun has man before finding the bottom right corner to put Moors a goal to the good with 30 minutes to go.

Billy Fielding would double the lead deep in added time with an excellent finish into the bottom corner to secure Moors’ place in the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Youth Cup.

Solihull Moors XI: 1. Neeson, 2. Richardson, 3. Watts, 4. Timbrell, 5. Pearsall, 6. Sietambi, 7. Chisholm, 8. Robinson, 9. Moseley ©, 10. Miller, 11. Fielding.

Bench: 12. Farrell, 13. Quinn, 14. Bassford, 15. Coffey, 16. Blue-Rodway, 17. Cater, 18. Footes.

Boston United XI: 1. Marsh, 2. Hipkin, 3. Houlston, 4. Thompson, 5. Brooks ©, 6. Snikeris, 7. Cotton, 8. Langford, 9. Pettitt, 10. Hardy, 11. Smaller.

Boston’s first threat of the game came in the 25th minute, with a corner sent toward the back-post for Charlie Brooks who headed the ball back across the face of goal.

MATCH ACTION

SOLIHULL ALTRINCHAM 2 2

Jamey Osborne came off the bench to score a late equaliser, as the Moors win 3-1 on penalties against Altrincham in the FA Cup Fourth Round Qualifying Replay

The match began with Kian Ryley hitting the crossbar inside the opening three minutes, after Finn Howell’s cross from the left-hand side was not cleared as Ryley’s acrobatic shot crashed the bar, before Marcel Oakley hit the rebound over the bar.

On 12 minutes, the Moors took the lead with Joss Labadie opening his account for the club. After Labadie was fouled 28 yards out, John Bostock sent a perfect cross for Labadie to volley the ball from six yards out and make it 1-0.

Two minutes later, the ball was switched out to the left-hand side with Joe Newton passing inside for Bradley Stevenson. From there, Stevenson shoots a fierce effort that was well blocked by the Altrincham defence.

Altrincham equalised through defender Charlie Olsen. A free-kick from Newby was sent towards Olsen at the far-post, who nodded the ball in from close range to make it 1-1.

On the hour mark, Walker was called into action to deny Linney a goal as the striker ran through on goal with just the goalkeeper to beat. But Linney’s low shot was saved by the legs of the keeper.

From the following corner, the ball was passed short and crossed in by Newby towards the six-yard box and turned into the net by Tom Crawford to give the visitors the lead.

In the first minute of stoppage time, the ball ricocheted around the Altrincham area, before the ball rolled into the path of Osborne. The captain struck the ball first-time into the far corner to save the Moors from elimination.

In the shootout, Linney missed the first penalty before Stevens smashed his effort straight down the middle of the goal.

After the Moors had scored all three of their penalties, Newby saw his penalty sabed by Walker as the Moors won the shootout 3-1, advancing to the next round.

Solihull Moors made the National League Promotion Final, after beating Barnet 0-4 at the Hive in the semi-finals, with arguably the performance of the season from Andy Whing's side.

Moors took the lead through James Clarke scoring against the Bees for the second time this season. Jamey Osborne crossed the ball from a free-kick on the right-hand side and was met by Clarke from 10 yards out. His header across goal bouncing into the net to make it 0-1.

Moors doubled their lead through Jack Stevens. Osborne chested the ball down before dribbling towards the Barnet defenders and releasing Stevens His left-footed shot caught Keeley out as the ball trickled into the net and make it 0-2.

Moors increased their lead to three with Campbell scoring Campbell initially played the ball into Sbarra with just the goalkeeper to beat, but Keeley did well to keep the ball out. But the chance was not gone completely with Campbell in the right area to score and make it 0-3.

Solihull scored their fourth of the game with Sbarra the latest to add his name on the scoresheet. Campbell held the ball up for his teammate Maycock, who sent Sbarra in on goal with just the keeper to beat and finished calmly to mark an unforgettable evening for the Moors

Finn Howell bringing the ball comfortably out from the back whilst being tracked by Alty man Justin Amaluzor , this ` pair had a bit of a ding dong throughout both game, knowing Finn he doesn’t stand any nonsense and gives as good as he gets, a product of the Elite Academy and have watched him grow up over the last 4 seasons or so.

Labs scoring his 1st goal for Moors, looking through the viewfinder of the camera at these moments, I generally have no idea where the ball is going, and have to rely on the crowd’s reaction as to which side of the posts the ball has ended up, on this occasion I was worried for Labs was to where the goalpost was going to end up given the position of his legs.

Kian Ryley leaping to stop Alty from getting the ball out of their defence, the body shape in this makes it a nice picture, Kian is another product of the Academy, and it’s great to see him get his chance in the 1st team, which can only hone his undoubted skills.

SOLIHULLMOORSWOMEN

Solihull Moors Women bowed out of the Adobe Women’s FA Cup at Nantwich yesterday but the 3-2 scoreline only tells half the story.

Down to the bare bones following the departure of coaching and playing staff, Moors gave it absolutely everything and took the lead with a beautiful goal from Paige Gardiner who delightfully chipped the ball over Nantwich’s keeper to make it 1-0.

Nantwich looked to fight back as the half progressed, pressing for a goal and testing their luck with four attempts in 7 minutes but Moors held onto their lead until the very last action of the first half saw the home side draw level. Moors came out for the second half with a revived approach to the game, fighting for a win but unfortunately it wasn’t long before Nantwich took the lead, scoring their second goal from close range.

A great opportunity then opened up down the other end with a wonderful strike from Molly Watters that flashed just wide of the post.

The game started to become more even as the half progressed, until Nantwich’s number 7 knocked the ball just past the keeper to make it 3-1 Moors refused to lie down though and Watters fired home her second of the game to make it 32.

Amid much drama Nantwich missed a penalty and both sides went close but despite the fantastic efforts of every player wearing the yellow and blue, Moors couldn’t claw back the game, ending their FA Cup journey.

Currently at the top of the Vanarama National League with 30 points after 13 games played heading into game week 14, Brennan’s hopes of promotion are high and will be looking to two steps further compared to last season where they suffered defeat to the Moors in the Play-Off semi-final. So far this season, Barnet have persisted to be dominant and will look to continue their form against Andy Whing’s side.

A DAY TO REMEMBER AT THE HIVE!

Solihull Moors ran riot at the Hive stadium, netting four times to secure their place in the Promotion Final with Jack Stevens, James Clarke, Tahvon Campbell and Joe Sbarra getting in on the action in front of the TNT Sport cameras.

450 Solihull fans were sent into delirium when Clarke nodded in the opening goal with a carbon copy of his goal in the previous fixture against the Bees.

Jack Stevens joined in on the fun just minutes later with a smart finish across the face of goal to double our lead.

It was total domination from Andy Whing’s side as the half-time whistle blew with Barnet yet to pose any real threat on Nick Hayes in the Solihull net.

Campbell would be Moors’ third goal scorer following a melee in the Barnet penalty area but the forward was able to prod the ball home ensuring our second trip to Wembley of the season.

To cap the evening off, Sbarra who had a difficult start to the season with injuries and made his return to action in a Boxing Day win over Chesterfield dispatched his effort past the Barnet shot-stopper in the dying moments of the game, securing Solihull’s second ever trip to the Home of Football.
