Solihull Moors are delighted to welcome our friends at Purcell Branding as our Match Sponsors on Saturday when we welcome Altrincham to Damson Park in the National League (3pm).

Purcell Branding deliver creative solutions across the football industry, which often poses unique challenges and requires quick turnaround times with tight deadlines.

During the summer they delivered a superb range of backdrops and logos to transform the changing room and tunnel area at Damson Park and fans will have also seen their clever, innovative ideas all around the ground.

We are pleased to have them as our guests in the Directors Box on Saturday and we are sure fans will make them welcome as they accompany the teams out of the tunnel before kick-off.

Dave Purcell told us:

“Purcell Branding is thrilled to be the match sponsor for Solihull Moors FC and is proud to support the club as it continues to grow and succeed. The partnership has been incredibly rewarding, and we ’ re enjoying a fantastic relationship with everyone at the club.

“We look forward to many more exciting matches and shared successes in the future, as we continue to strengthen our ties with such a vibrant and ambitious team.”

Welcome to today’s game at home to Altrincham FC

It is a special weekend in our nation’s calendar as we commemorate all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of their country.

‘Of all the unimportant things, football is the most important’

Accordingly, we welcome especially on this day members of the Armed Forces and the British Legion as well as the players, fans and officials from Altrincham

This is the 126th year of the Remembrance Day commemoration which is held every year at 11am on the 11 November and is closely linked to the heartrending yet uplifting service of Remembrance, held at the Royal Albert Hall and, of course, the Remembrance Sunday service held at the Cenotaph

We will pay our own respects today before the game with the laying of the wreaths on the centre circle, a period of two minutes silence, the Last Post and the reading of the Ode of Remembrance

The words to the Ode, which are an excerpt from Laurence Binyon’s poem “For the Fallen” have accompanied Remembrance services from the outset and the words are repeated below as they serve as a welcome reminder to us all about how fortunate we are.

“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them.”

Please respect the ceremony and use the period of silence to both remember and to reflect on what each of us can do to bring our communities together

Today also reminds me of the quote, often attributed to Pope John Paul II,

Before turning to the League, it is well worth celebrating our progress to the 2nd round of the FA Cup after a workmanlike win against Maidstone United last Saturday

The draw, which has often been unkind to us, served us up a home tie against Bromley, bringing back memories of the play off final!

We are also on mainstream TV with the game being televised live on ITV on Sunday 1 December, kick off 315.

It would be wonderful to see Damson Park full to capacity and to support the team to hopefully progress to the 3rd round for the first time in our history

Today, we play a strong Altrincham team who have play off aspirations similar to our own.

The table shows a highly competitive League with at least a dozen teams believing the play offs are attainable.

As I wrote last weekend, our season has been one of gradual improvement as the squad gets back to full strength and we now have an important and busy period in the run up to Christmas.

Please enjoy the game today

ACTIONSHOTSWITHDICKY

Alex Whitmore trying to get his head onto the end of a Moors corner, Maidstone had done their homework on Moors corners as the same two defenders were on him every time he came forward and didn’t give him and inch, the shirt pulling and shenanigans you probably can’t see clearly from the stands is captured by the camera, it’s not for the fainthearted. In this one I like the players in a descending pattern, which leads your eyes to look for the ball, unfortunately it is not captured in this fame.

Moors current talisman Jack Stevens leaping for the ball from a Laurie Walker clearance, Steve seems to be included in my section (quite rightly) every week. In this one Jacks body position is the important part of the frame, with his hair standing up as he has started to descend from the challenge.

Clarkey in his celebration after breaking the deadlock early in the 2nd half, a nice capture, but was lucky to get it, fortunately he ran my side, but with most footballers one never knows if it’s a knee slide a jump or even backflip, and whichever one is in your mind, it’s usually one of the others they do I sent this one to the local press and had a nice e-mail back from local sports reporter Neil Moxley saying how he just loves the raw emotion, I need say no more.

Finn Howell fending off a challenge, and getting a cross in, the body position makes the shot for me as his foot is about to hit the ball No sure about the face Finn is pulling in this one though, probably why he didn’t publish this one on his socials.

Just after the previous picture, this is one of the ‘Celebration Huddle’, they have been few and far between for me this season, we ’ ve either been chasing the game and it’s an equalizer and the ball comes straight out of the net for the restart to get on with the game, or they’ve run the other side of the goal to celebrate I like this one as is has all three of the goal scorers on the day in it plus Mikey and Galey, I must say that in the past I’ve been caught up in the celebrations and have also been hugged by one or two of the players. Again whilst looking through the camera viewfinder, I’m always waiting for one of the to come out of nowhere and jump into the huddle, Cal Howe was always a good candidate for that, and I do miss the Maycock head tap.

MATCH ACTION

SOLIHULL MAIDSTONE 1 1

Solihull Moors secured their passage into the second round of the FA Cup with a hard-fought victory over Maidstone United in a physical contest at Damson Park.

Jack Stevens, the Moors’ top scorer in all competitions this season, nearly added to his tally in the early minutes, when his curled effort just evaded the far post.

The first half possessed few chances and a last-ditch challenge from Howell prevented Pierre Fonkou from a dangerous one-on-one opportunity. The youngster’s composure and defensive acumen were tested but he responded excellently.

The Moors were forced to resort to Jamey Osborne’s long throw to conjure their attacking moments. This tactic set up an Alex Whitmore header, but his effort was smartly stopped by Alexis Andre Jr.

Once again, it was Whitmore who proved to be the unlikely dangerman when Gale’s floated delivery set up the centre-back for the best opportunity of the opening 45 minutes. However, the robust defender couldn’t direct his header on target

In the 50th minute, the home side eventually opened the scoring when Osborne’s throw-in initiated a goal-mouth scramble before the ball was bundled into the net by James Clarke. Moments later, the 24-year-old was involved again, but this time at the other end, with a sensational goal-line clearance that denied an instant equaliser

The Moors continued to provide a stubborn resistance and limited the visitors to feed off scraps and set pieces. A deflected Antony Papadopoulos strike fell into Charlie Seaman’s path, but the forward failed to sort out his feet and his effort trickled harmlessly wide

In the 89th minute, the Moors were awarded a penalty when Stevens was fouled. The electric winger netted the resulting spot-kick to seal the victory It was a repeat of the previous home match when Stevens also buried a penalty against Woking.

The Moors weren’t finished and added a third in the dying seconds Michael AduPoku’s magnificent run and pace brilliantly set up Conor Wilkinson, who classily tucked away from close range.

This win also marked the first home clean sheet of the season for the Midlandsbased side. The Moors return to action on Saturday 9th November when they face Altrincham in the National League at Damson Park

Ozzy’s last-minute strike set Solihull on their way to penalty triumph over Alty!

In the first minute of stoppage time, the ball ricocheted around the Altrincham area, before the ball rolled into the path of Osborne. The captain struck the ball first-time into the far corner to save the Moors from elimination.

In the shootout, Linney missed the first penalty before Stevens smashed his effort straight down the middle of the goal.

After the Moors had scored all three of their penalties, Newby saw his penalty saved by Walker as the Moors won the shootout 3-1, advancing to the next round.

WELCOME

Welcome to Damson Park, Altrincham!

We’d like to thank all the visiting Alty supporters who have made the 88 mile trip to the West Midlands for this evening’s match.

MEET THE BOSS

Phil Parkinson was appointed on 28 April 2017, the eve of the last game of the 2016-17 season in which Altrincham had been relegated to the Northern Premier League. Phil enjoyed promotion from the NPL as champions in his first season and reached the play-offs in 2018-19 in National League North before wining promotion to the National League via the play-offs in 2020. On 9 April 2021 it was announced that his contract had been extended to the end of the 2023-24 season.

ONES TO WATCH

Altrincham significantly increased their goal threat in February 2023 after signing free-scoring striker Regan Linney from FC United of Manchester for an undisclosed fee. Alty bosses had been monitoring the 26-year old centre-forward's unstoppable form on a regular basis and are delighted to have secured the signature of a player who has been consistently lethal in his four seasons at Broadhurst Park.

Alex Newby joined Altrincham on a permanent deal from Colchester United in January 2024.

The forward originally signed on loan at the J.Davidson Stadium in September and made an instant impact scoring within minutes of his debut against Ebbsfleet United.

BURTONALBION SOLIHULL 1 2

Solihull Moors Women ended their losing streak yesterday as they move into the next round of the Birmingham FA County Challenge Cup.

Moors faced Burton Albion once again, following on from the game abandonment two weeks ago, and both teams were eager to make an impression on the game.

However, it was Burton who were quick to the mark taking the lead in the fourth minute.

It didn’t take long for Moors to fight back as Blaxland took the opportunity to score the equaliser, with a wonderful, curled strike from outside the box.

As the half progressed, both teams looked to create opportunities for themselves, one being with Tomlins testing the Burton shot stopper twice within the space of a few minutes.

It wasn’t long before Burton created an opportunity to regain the lead, but Buttle blocked the strike with a superb save, keeping both teams level at the break.

HT: Burton Albion 1-1 Solihull Moors

With the second half underway, Moors took the lead at the fifty third minute, courtesy of Quinn; who after a scramble in the box, slid the ball past the keeper.

Both teams continued to create chances for themselves as the half progressed.

The Brewers carved out a good opportunity to, with a long range shot but was once again blocked by Buttle, who made another crucial save to keep Solihull ahead.

Minutes before the referee brought the game to a close, Moors created another opportunity to widen the gap, with a lovely strike from Fernandez whose efforts fell just wide of the target.

With a fantastic effort from every player, Moors held onto their lead giving them a 2-1 win at full-time in yesterday’s County Cup game, securing their place in the next round.

SOLIHULL CREWE 1 2

Solihull Moors U18s were etched out by PDL side Crewe Alexandra, ending their journey in the FA Youth Cup.

The visiting side started the affair on the front foot, beating Moors’ press to take the lead inside five minutes at Damson Park. In-form striker, Jordan Hodkin, nodded him at the far-post from a lofted Josh Ashe cross in the fifth minute.

Crewe would win a spot-kick after a foul in the penalty area in the 18th minute after Hodkin was taken down. The number nine missed his chance to double the lead, with Moors’ shotstopper Joe Neeson reading the penalty well to make a save from the spot to keep Solihull in the game.

The visitors continued to impose a threat as Luca Moore and Owen Taylor’s efforts were wide of the target before the break.

Solihull came out with all cylinders firing for the second-half as Billy Fielding drilled his effort low into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area to drag Moors level in the FA Youth Cup tie.

Substitute Flynn Coffey would come close for Solihull, but his effort was tipped round the post by Mikolaj Lenarick as the Moors sought a way to take the lead.

However, with five minutes on the clock and the game set to enter extra-time, Crewe regained the lead through Hodkin after he was able to latch onto a looped ball from Xavier Smith before finding the back of the net.

Solihull: Neeson, Richardson, Watts, Pearsall, Sietambi, Singh (Coffey, 46), Fielding (Robinson, 74), Timbrell (Farrell, 84), Moseley ©(Brown, 87), Miller, Footes (Cater, 56).
