I’m Tim Sanders, owner of Solar Shield Blinds. Shades. Solutions. My wife, Denise, and I have been operating Solar Shield in the Peoria, Illinois area since 2006. We have continued to change and adapt our business as we have grown over the years and we have learned a lot. In early 2018 we had an opportunity to expand our business to Kansas City, MO and decided to take the leap. Since 2018 we’ve been steadily growing and adding more team members as well as vans on the road to offer better service to the KC Metro area, as well as continuing to grow and service our Peoria location. We're excited to see where the future takes our company, and we'd love it if you were a part of our journey!

Solar Shield has had the opportunity to be featured on the popular Magnolia Network home remodeling show, Bargain Mansions, hosted by Tamara Day! We've shot several episodes with the crew, and each one has been unique and fun.

Tamara Day not only hosts the show, she also has her own interior design firm right here in Kansas City. Over the past several years working with Tamara, we've been fortunate enough to become her preferred window treatment provider to not only the homes being featured on her show, but also to her design clients as well!

Tamara has been able to use several different types of products to help her clients solve specific problems with windows, and functional design. We've used our Top Down Bottom Up Honeycomb Shades, Roman Shades, Drapery, Roller Shades, Automated Shades, and Exterior Roller Shades for the show. Our process is very thorough. When we meet with you during your FREE consultation we will discuss your specific needs. We will listen to your concerns and make sure we understand exactly what you’re wanting to accomplish with your window coverings. We will help educate you on what product options are available to you, and then we offer our best recommendation based off of our in depth assessment of your windows. We take time making sure you understand exactly what you are going to get, and we make sure there won’t be any surprises at the time of install. We provide a complete and exact quote on-the-spot so you can make sure we are working within your budget. This simple, yet very effective in-home service has proven to be very efficient for our clients in saving time, money, and energy not spent running from store to store. You have probably picked up on the word “solutions” many times on our site, but that’s the best word to describe our focus. We want to provide our customers with the best possible solutions for their windows. In an industry that sometimes focuses more on just selling a particular product or brand, we make sure to address the issue at hand and give recommendations based on the best solutions. Don’t get us wrong, we love to sell our products, but we believe that our products should be the best solution for you and your windows. Protection You Can See

The sun can have very damaging effects on the interior of you home. One of the most popular requests we get from our clients is to help them protect the interior of their homes from harsh sunlight. This actually is where our company name, "Solar Shield" comes from as it's our goal to help you shield your home from damaging sunlight, while still allowing you to enjoy natural filtered light, and even keep your view if you prefer.

For this particular project you can see how the direct sunlight streamed into this beautiful family room and sits directly on the floor. Our client was concerned about the direct light damaging their newly finished wood floors, and the overall heat build up they were experiencing. Our Solar Shield Honeycomb Shades were the perfect solution as they still allow plenty of natural filtered sunlight, but they create a complete shadow inside the room, which helps protect against direct light exposure.

This project shows the direct sunlight sitting on the stairs and into the living room. Our Automated Solar Shield Roller Shades were able to remove the direct sunlight and replace it with soft filtered light. We also were able to use our Solar Panels to supply a constant charge to the shade batteries.

No matter what shape or size your windows are, Shutters are a perfect match! With our custom shape shutter program we can make our shutters fit any specialty shape, any size, and any color. Shutters offer large open views through the louvers, while still offering plenty of privacy and direct light control. When you need to darken a room, shutters close tightly for a light dimming effect. Our shutters also have the option for a standard tilt bar, or you can choose to upgrade to Invisible Tilt for an unobstructed view to the outdoors.

Natural Woven Shades

Bring warmth and texture into your home by using the natural grasses, reeds, and bamboo in our Natural Woven Shades. Child & Pet Safety

We want your window coverings to be amazing, functional, practical, and stylish. But most importantly, we make sure that your window coverings will be SAFE! We only offer cordless products through our trusted vendors that are certified "Best For Kids", a certification process that is set by the Window Covering Safety Council. Window covering manufacturers must submit their products to a third-party testing lab. And only after those products pass testing, can they be labeled Best for Kids. All of our products have options that are safe for your home and your family!

DRAPERY & SOFT TREATMENTS

If you are wanting to soften your space, while adding luxury and sophistication, then our custom drapery and soft treatments are a great option! We offer fully functional drapery panels, stationary side panels, roman shades, cornices, valances, and even throw pillows. Our workroom delivers high quality construction and only uses drapery weight fabrics. Make a room cozy by adding a blackout liner to your drapery or roman shades, or choose from hundreds of in stock fabrics and add bright colors and patterns to transform your space. If you can think it, we can make it!

Dual Shades offer the perfect balance between function and style. These unique window shades feature a privacy band that comes in various sizes ranging from 3" to 5" with a sheer band above and below in a slightly smaller size. This allows you to set the shades to a privacy position that gives you a soft sheer view outside, but still keeps your interior private during the daytime. Then at night, when you need full privacy, you simply lower the shade to the bottom of the window and you instantly have full coverage privacy. The best part about Dual Shades is when you want your full view, you can roll them all the way up inside of the included cassette headrail, and all the fabric hides away in a small 3" space. See the pictures on the right. The top picture is the fabric totally retracted inside of the cassette. The second picture shows that you can stop the shade anywhere top to bottom you like, and align the sheer bands to still maintain a view out the upper half. The third picture shows the privacy setting that gives good light control, along with daytime privacy. And the last picture is the fully private setting. These are available in cordless and motorized options.

Blinds

Blinds are a classic solution for direct light and privacy. They offer a lot of versatility, which is why they are still a very popular product today. Though the overall look of blinds hasn't seen much change, their function and operation has seen major improvements not only in user experience, but also longer lasting durability. No more pulling long cords to lift heavy slats. You can raise your blinds with a gentle push of you hand and close out more light with our updated "no-hole" slat options.

Honeycomb Shades

Energy efficiency is one big reason many people reach out to us. When we need to help our clients insulate their home from drafty windows or radiating cold or heat through glass, our go to solution is always our Solar Shield Honeycomb Shades. Designed with an insulating air pocket between two layers of fabric, these shades have the ability to hold out the harsh conditions and help regulate a home, even in the most harsh times of the year. Another added feature to our Honeycomb Shades is the Top Down Bottom Up function. This allows you to set your privacy line, while maintaining your desired view out. This also allows you to stack the fabric in any position you can imagine. The pictures on the right show the many different stacking positions.

Honeycomb Shades are also great for darkening a room for a better nights sleep. These come in both light filtering and room darkening and can even be combined to offer both fabrics in one product. No matter what functionality, light level, or insulation level you are looking for with your windows, we have the perfect solution for you!

Exterior Patio Shades

Outdoor living can now be extended throughout the year with our Solar Shield Exterior Patio Shades. You can add privacy, sun control, and wind control to your outdoor living space with just a touch of a button. And when you're ready to open up your patio the patio shades will retract inside of a housing at the top Our shades are designed for windy conditions as they have heavy duty tracks running down both sides that hold the fabric in place. Our shades can cover openings up to 30' wide, so no matter how large your patio space is, we can help!
