Spherical Solar Cells that Capture Sun’s Rays from All Directions The invention has huge wings by which it can fly in the in-depth universe. With ongoing progress in the field of science, every day is a new day where it’s a rare chance that scientists miss an opportunity to invent a new thing. Amongst various inventions happening at different corners of the world, you might have heard of the spherical solar cell, a miraculous thing, which is beyond expectation and assumption.

Such a brilliant invention is a big idea by the Japanese company, Kyosemi Corporation, which developed a spherical solar cell called the Sphelar. The advantages of the Sphelar is its unique ability to capture the sun in all directions and utilize indirect and diffuse light. It is able to follow the sun due to its round shape. As the sun takes on different positions dependent on the season or time of day, the Sphelar is capable of capturing the sun rays.

Sphelar captures light from all directions. It can capture reflected light and diffused light. Due to its shape the Sphelar by design can capture the sun without artificially having to track the sun as with ordinary flat solar cell panels. The Sphelar light sensitive surface is therefore able to achieve high energy efficiency. It utilizes a method wherein there is little waste of silicon.

Spherical cells are a bit different from flat cells that work well when mounted on a roof top or at fitting fields. These flat cells are connected with motorized tracking systems, which absorb some amounts of energy. The innovation is capable of greater power efficiency and flexibility in applications than conventional flat solar cell panels. The product measures 1 mm in diameter. Kyosemi’s Sphelar cells utilize a collection of tiny spheres that have the capability to accumulate the sun’s rays coming from various directions.
