Almería

The Junta de Gobierno Local del Ayuntamiento de Almería has approved 58,557.50 euros to carry out reconstruction works on the final section of Calle Zaragoza. The works, which will be undertaken by Construcciones Tejera, SA, will last approximately two months. Concejal del Área de Fomento y Servicios Ciudadanos, Manuel Guzmán, explained that the works will necessitate the demolition of a building located at number 13, and in order to prevent heavy vehicles deteriorating the new pavement, street lighting and street furniture, the section from that building to the Calle Javier Sanz will be concreted. It has been noted that the works were halted, probably due to the current crisis. However, he said, ‘We will finish the works from No. 13, Zaragoza Street to the intersection with Calle Javier Sanz. This will consist of the demolition of the concrete floor and new paving, but keeping the design and existing materials, namely basalt pavers 10x10x3 in grey. In addition, to maintain the aesthetics of the pavement, the tops of the various existing manholes will be covered with the same material as the rest of the area. Finally, new streetlights and new street furniture, comprised mostly of benches, litter bins and planters will be placed, similar to those already in place.

Albox

Officers from the Guardia Civil Albox have arrested J.M.S., aged 26, resident of Albox, as the perpetrator of a crime simulation. The Civil Guard based the detention on research carried out after hearing of an armed robbery, reported on 7 July, in which the victim told the officers that when he went home to his girlfriend, he was approached by three hooded men with foreign accents. Still according to the victim, the assailants intimidated him a handgun, demanding a debt of 600 Euros, for the purchase of cocaine by the former partner of his girlfriend, all under death threats against his partner and himself. After listening to this story, the Civil Guard initiated the investigation, although officials had serious doubts about the veracity of the complaint, meeting first with the alleged ‘delinquent’, who denied the existence of the debt and also that he used, or had ever used cocaine, and that he had maintained a good relationship with his former partner, but that he suspected that J. M. S., wanted to break that bond. When the officers interviewed the previous girlfriend she told them that she have not seen anyone suspicious in the vicinity, information that was also confirmed the neighbours, who also expressed surprise at the ‘debt’ of her former partner. All research carried out by the Guardia Civil pointed to the falsity of the complaint filed by J. M. S. When re-interviewed, J. M. S. begins to contradict himself, change important aspects of his complaint, as well as demonstrating sudden changes in attitude, increasing nervousness and beginning to break out in a heavy sweat, before admitting the falsity of the complaint, at which point he was arrested.

Albox

After a period of intense work, due to the complexity of its construction, the new sports facility is a reality. The Alcalde del Ayuntamiento de Albox, José García, said ‘We are very satisfied. This is the culmination of a process that shows the commitment of this Government team to its citizens. We are promoting a large number of projects designed primarily for sports and entertainment for the citizens.’ The Concejal de Deportes, Francisco Carrillo, said that ‘the construction of this pool reaffirms the commitment of the Ayuntamiento to the development of sport by offering citizens more opportunities and sports facilities, in addition to the many activities organised throughout the year.’ ‘Citizens will have the opportunity to practice different sports-related activities throughout the year. The ‘Centre for Water and Health’ will be a fully equipped facility, offering the user the latest developments in sports. Specifically, the Municipality will have a complex consisting of a gym, sauna and swimming pool, squash court, three multipurpose rooms, football court 7, four padel courts, two tennis courts, two petanc pitches, a playground, as well as a commercial area with a restaurant and other shops. The Mayor wanted to dispel any doubt that may have been voiced about the completion of the pool. ‘Actions speak louder than words and we can now demonstrate the fruit of our work, with the new pool completed, as we promised.’ The total cost of this construction amounts to 1,850,000 euros, of which 50% (925,000) has been subsidised by the Consejería de Turismo, Comercio y Deporte de la Junta de Andalucía. With the commissioning of the future Centre for Water and Health, whose budget is around four million euros, citizens may engage in any sport in a thoroughly modern facility, equipped with the very latest in field of sports. Finally, both the Mayor and the Councilman felt ‘very positive’ about this new sports facility, stating that ‘the end result in the case of the new swimming pool has been spectacular.’
