Le Mata Bowling Green Closure...........
We are new members of the Le Mata Bowling Club so it came as a great shock to learn that the owners of Le Mata Gardens Hotel in Mojacar had issued a directive that the green the club rents from them would no longer be available for bowling as from 1st January 2011.Le Mata club members have always been extremely supportive to new players including them in matches and giving coaching to improve their game. The sixty or so members as from next January have no green available to them and the loss of this club will be detrimental to bowling in this area. We don’t understand why the owners wish to close the greens when it is such a valuable asset to Mojacar. There are three other clubs and approximately 300 bowlers in this area and new people are applying for membership every year. Does anyone have any suggestions for a new venue for this club? desperately need dog walkers to help exercise the many dogs in their care. Please consider giving up just an hour or two once a week to walk with one of their abandoned puppies and dogs. Lifts can be arranged and you can enjoy a brisk stroll with others and keep fit while helping a needy animal. We would like to thank everyone who braved the unseasonably wet weather and came out to Monika’s Bar in Palomares to support the MACS charity carol singalong and auction on Saturday 18th December. We are delighted to say we raised 422 (four hundred and twenty-two) euros. We knew we wouldn’t match last year’s fabulous 4-figure total, having had such a phenomenal response to ‘Brian’s fundraiser for MACS’ in November (5605 euros!), but for such a sum to be raised by people so close to other fundraising events and Christmas during this time of economic crisis really does make one believe in the Christmas spirit. A big thank you to everyone who donated to the auction, printed carol sheets and participated in what was also a fun and festive evening. S and R Wheeler

THE MOJACAR BRANCH OF THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION - POPPY APPEAL 2010 The Mojacar Branch of The Royal British Legion is very grateful to all those who gave time and energy to the 2010 Appeal when we were able to contribute an amazing amount of 10,687.46 Euro towards the 107,146.97 Euros which was the final figure the various Branches throughout Spain collected. This, indeed, is confirmation that although having left our homeland, those who wear TRBL badge still stand shoulder to shoulder with all who serve in our armed forces, and acknowledge the need to provide care to their dependents and families something The Royal British Legion have done since 1921. We were enormously aided by the generosity of many local businesses who donated prizes to the Mojacar Poppy Appeal Dinner Dance raffle, ~ Spanish Properties, Celebrations, The Farmacia, as well as vouchers for meals from many restaurants which together raised 250 euro for the Poppy Appeal. The Poppy Box left at GB Stores raised 134 euro and 170+ boxes were distributed along the Mojacar Playa. To Peter van Pahlen who for the past 7 years has collected at Almeria Airport and was able once again to raise approximately 1,000 euro. The Anglican Church, Mojacar Masons, both the La Mata & the Cabrera Bowling Club, Sol Times and individual membership donations, it is to all these dedicated participants that we owe a great deal of appreciation and thanks, without their help the Mojacar Branch would not have been able to achieve the final amount raised.
