SOLTIMES SEPTEMBER 2012

FC TORREVIEJA – TORRY SNATCH A POINT............. Last Sunday Torry entertained Amores were showing any headed back into the middle Jove Espanol CF, a team that where level on points with Torry with 2 wins and 2 defeats. Torry needed to win to climb back up the table and stay in touch with the early leaders. Torry were again without the injured Ernesto who I understand trained on Saturday but is not quite ready to return to action. They were also without Burguillos who hadn’t fully recovered from a knock, and took up a place on the bench. Central defender Pedro Lopez returned to the side after serving a one match suspension. Rafa, who went off injured last week, had recovered from injury and filled the left back berth. Manu Amores was preferred to Luis Carlos on the right-hand side of midfield. The Torry line up was: Manolo, Vicente Boix, Pedro Lopz, Jorge (Burguillos 46 min), Rafa), Abel, Dani, Manu Amores, Cuco Ros (Luis Carlos 46 min), Inajeros, and Gash ( Jose Manuel 58 min). The game kicked off in sunshine with a breeze in front of a crowd around the 450 mark. The game got off to a scrappy start with neither side penetrating the opposition defensive lines. On 9 minutes Jorge gave the ball away with a mis-placed pass out of defence and the opposition capitalised on it and played it through the Torry rearguard to one of their strikers who tucked it away from close range under Manolo’s body for a GOALLLLL to Jove 0-1. Only Rafa and young Manu

true grit and determination for Torry. On 14 minutes Inarejos was felled in the box and Torry won their 4th penalty of the season. However, the previous 3 had been missed so who was going to take the responsibility. Captain Jorge stepped forward and struck the spot- kick into the bottom left-hand corner of the net for a GOALLLLL to Torry 1-1. This to a certain extent atoned for his error which led to Jove’s goal. However, this didn’t spark Torry into real action and they lacked imagination and invention with the ball and were content to play it along the back and then launch it forward in the hope that someone would get on the end of it. There was simply not enough movement up front and options available to the man on the ball. Jove didn’t commit too many men forward but did have a couple of quick willing runners up front. The only real chance which fell to Torry was from a good ball in by Inarejos which the lumbering Abel, who had beat the offside trap, missed completely with a swing of the right foot. The first half drew to a close. The manager took decisive action at half-time to try to arrest the situation and took off the ineffective Cuco Ros and brought on Luis Carlos and also took off Jorge, who had picked up yet another booking in the first half and brought on Burguillos. The opposition created a couple of chances in the first few minutes of the second period but spurned them. Then a free kick into the Jove box was

and Burguillos headed over the top from a couple of yards out when it looked easier to find the net. The game was opening up more with opposition committing more men forward. On 77 minutes after decent Torry build up Dani had a chance with his flick being well saved by their keeper. On 78 minutes a GOALLLLL out of nowhere for Jove, fit to grace any stage and out of character with the game, through a super strike from 25 yards into the top corner with Manolo powerless to do anything about it. Torry kept plugging away and got their reward on 83 minutes, after a ball to the back post by Rafa was met by Luis Carlos with a snap-shot which the keeper parried with Jose Manuel being the first to the ball and forcing it over the line for a GOALLLLL to Torry 2-2. The game petered out with honours ending even. A draw was probably a fair result and takes Torry up a place to 8th in the table. On Sunday Torry travel to Denia and the Torry Army will be taking a coach for a full-day out. If you haven’t booked your place on the coach do so now. A dis-appointed Darrylldinho watching his adopted team in Spain play poorly, without much passion, come back twice to snatch a point. Corvera CF 1 Mazarron FC 0

Mazarron were again beaten 1-0 in their first away game of the season at Corvera but the main talking point was the disgraceful state of the ground at Corvera. How the Murcian Football Federation allow teams into its league with such primitive facilities is beyond belief. The playing pitch was simply earth that had been rolled and seemed to have been dug out of a hill with two goalposts placed at each end and sloped heavily from one end to another. There were no toilet facilities for the many lady supporters who travelled from Mazarron and no seats for spectators unless you sat on the few steps which the players and match officials had to use to enter and leave the field of play. Otherwise spectators had to stand at the top of the mounds of earth from which the pitch had been dug. It

beggars belief that Corvera had the gall to charge spectators for admission. Jose Ruben had the ball in the net for Mazarron after only 3 minutes but his effort was clearly offside. Two minutes later Miguelon was put through by Ruben but his shot was saved. Miguelon was then clearly fouled in the penalty area when his shirt was almost ripped off his back by a Corvera defender but, amazingly, a free kick was awarded to the home team. Mazarron continued to attack and Panocha’s fierce shot was saved by the excellent Corvera keeper. However, after 28 minutes a mistake by Pollo allowed Corvera to break through on the left and open the scoring totally against the run of play.

If Mazarron had the better of the first half, their dominance in the second was even greater although the standard of play by both teams left a lot to be desired. Ruben, in the Mazarron goal, was hardly troubled throughout the game while the Corvera keeper had to be at the top of his game. Mazarron had at least ten chances in the second half alone, the best of which was missed by Urrea from a right wing corner from Cris when it seemed easier to score. In the 85th minute, Jose Ruben made a superb run down the right wing and from his perfect cross, Miguelon got to the ball first but was thwarted by another excellent save form the Corvera keeper. Despite the number of chances created, there is still much work to be done if Mazarron are going to challenge for promotion and reward the faith placed in them by their loyal band of supporters. Team: Ruben, Pollo. Diego 1, Pepelu, Barrachina, Edu (Cris), Diego 2 (Serrano), Urrea (Ahmed), Miguelon, Jose Ruben, Panocha.
