Vivace Choir to perform Carmina Burana

After a very successful informal Carol Concert with the Phoenix Band from San Miguel, the Vivace Choir are progressing well with rehearsals for their next concert, Carl Orff’s “Carmina Burana. This is an exciting and rhythmically demanding piece of music and will be accompanied by two pianist and 5 percussionist all of whom are professional musicians, in an arrangement by the composer. This will be the choir’s most adventurous undertaking since its inception in 2006 under the direction of Tom Pargeter. The music for Carmina Burana was composed by Carl Orff in 1935 and based on 24 of the surviving poems which were part of a collection from a manuscript probably dating between the 11th and 13th centuries. The text which is mainly in mediaeval Latin also contains poems in High German.and tell of the joy of the coming of Spring and the pleasures and perils which accompany it, along with the fickleness of fortune! The choir of more than 60 singers will be accompanied by Nataliya Khomyak and Jean Hancock on two pianos and five local percussionists led by Santiago Dura Mascarell of the San Miguel Music School, all of whom are professional musicians. The soprano soloist is Mary Coffield from England, is no stranger to San Miguel as she has taken part in several Opera Weeks and will be joined by Arthur Berwick, baritone. The performances will take place on Friday 16 March 2012 at the Casa de Cultura , San Miguel de Salinas at 8.30 pm and Saturday 17 March 2012 at the Teatro Circo in Orihuela also starting at 8.30 p.m. For tickets for either performance which are 5 € please telephone 659 616 356. Tickets for the Orihuela concert can also be bought at the theatre box office, telephone: 96 674 01 04.
