Funded by Stomp the Blues Out of Homelessness, The Gathering Tree, and Drury University, my class and I had the special opportunity to design and build a shelter for the homeless population in Springfield. The site is located at Revive 66 Campground, where there are numerous kinds of shelters for overnight sleep, bathrooms, showers, and laundry facilities. Our design was the second of its kind done by Drury students.

The Downtown Church reached out to Drury University for help creating a revitalized master plan for their site. My community studio group wanted to focus on the exterior and the church’s connection to the downtown community. Our goal was to make The Downtown Church’s motto, “a place where Christ and the community intersect,” a reality. Our team for the project created a plan spanning over the next 25 years, with new additions in each phase.
