forms and expression, or paradigms for participation and engagement. The young are often treated as consumers rather than producers, and the cultural offering is disconnected from leisure. We will be exploring the creative capacity of young people, endorsing their participation in cultural activities as part of their wellbeing and personal development. We will experiment with new kinds of venues and situations, including leisure and learning fatigue. Our goal is to change traditional cultural structures so as to involve the young, but also to change the artistic formats to respond to the needs and expectations of this generation: mobility, interdisciplinary forms of expression, new technologies, virtualization and multimedia-related forms.

We will parallel such 2019 individual projects and activities with corresponding communication mechanisms. Examples of projects: Urban Explorers, We are Visual, Urban Farms, Reporteen, Sofia Science Fair, Muzeiko, Sofia Tech Park and ARS Electronica. Another important target group is the Roma community. Despite a decade of progress, many Romani citizens still live on the margins. In the current economic downturn, incidents of anti-Roma rhetoric are not rare. We are committed to making a real difference in the lives of the Roma with Sofia 2019 and to celebrating the history, impact and culture of this ethnic community. From music to crafts and literature, Romani people have contributed in ways large and small to the fabric of our city. We will continue to forge new partnerships, discover new areas of understanding, redoubling our efforts to address the challenges Roma citizens face. We will launch a Roma Cultural Centre in early 2015 as a physical space for capacity building and art production, and as a reference point for the cultural engagement of the community. Thus, we hope to contribute to a freer, fairer and more inclusive Europe. The Roma are an integral part of all three season and themes, including one of the flagship events – the international Roma Living project. This programmatic approach, reinforced by infrastructure and digital projects, will help us rethink the inherent pluralisms of our time, as well as redistribute and share opportunities for creation and participation by calling into question traditional patterns.
