JULES PETERSON
from July 2023
by societylife
Jules Peterson is the founder and executive director of Loving Long Ears Donkey Therapy & Sanctuary, Inc. in Southlake. This has been a long-time dream in the making! Her 501c3 nonprofit began in 2017 with the purpose of partnering with Donkeys and humans offering healing for both. She admits that, “Love fuels Loving Long Ears and love started our mission. We work with kids, first responders, veterans and other adults to create synergy between Donkeys and humans that inspires and heals.”
Jules is preparing for a future move to a muchneeded larger facility that better supports the donkey’s needs and their mission. Future plans include this move and hiring a barn manager to help with the physical work required. No one can deny that this is a passion project for her.
“Over the past two extreme weather years, I have spent 8 of the coldest and 3 of the hottest nights sleeping in the barn to ensure our more fragile donkeys would survive. I work 12-14 hour days in all weather with just 9 days off in the past 7 years,” Jules recalls. Undoubtably this is her labor of love. We didn’t even have to ask what her greatest accomplishment is it’s so obvious! “A lot has gone into Loving Long Ears in the last few years, and we’re incredibly overwhelmed by the support that’s allowed our dreams to start flourishing. However, we really need funding for a climate controlled barn more conducive to the donkeys’ well-being, our therapy sessions, public visits and holiday events. You can be a part of our dream for the donkeys and making our mission come true... a land donation comes with naming rights for our new facility!” she coaxes. At the end of each long day, Jules thanks God for the chance to brighten someone’s day or facilitate one’s future with her rescued and trained therapy Donkeys (and the Donkeys give thanks, too!)
