The MET also has a highly successful radio broadcast series, now in its 77th year. THE HAMPTONS The Hamptons is a collective name for several beach communities on the eastern end of Long Island. Here, countless affluent New Yorkers, Southern Californians, and Europeans spend their summers vacationing and relaxing by the beach. While often described as the playground of the rich, what many people do not realize is that a very large number of charities hold their events throughout the summer in the Hamptons. These parties begin on Memorial Day weekend and continue right through Labor Day weekend. Getting involved in supporting a charity fuels an exciting social life; charity is very much a part of the fabric and culture of the Hamptons. Each year, more and more nonprofits reach out to the Hamptons to seek the support of its summer residents. Local, national and international charities all hold events in the Hamptons. PALM BEACH Considered one of the most affluent retirement communities in the world, Palm Beach serves as an excellent model of social philanthropy. around charitable giving: it is almost a requirement that people be involved in philanthropy on some level. Palm Beach residents seem to genuinely love supporting many different charities. To see a community that collectively makes it a priority to support charitable causes is a wonderful sight indeed! Nancy grew up on the East Coast and moved to Los Angeles in her mid-20s. She was well educated and had a career in the fashion industry, which had given her the opportunity to socialize with some of the biggest stars in Hollywood. In her mid-30s she met the love of her life, a prominent doctor. Together they moved and built a life first in the Hamptons, and then in Palm Springs. Nancy loved the idea of giving back and became very involved in philanthropy by first getting involved with the Southampton Hospital in the Hamptons. Giving back has been a very rewarding experience for Nancy. She now is active in charities both in Palm Springs and in the Hamptons.
