Introducing Lucifer's Family God Remiel Amenadiel Goddess Lucifer Azrael UrielMichael *Lucifer has many angelic siblings. The ones listed have appeared multiple times and/or significantly impacted him.

Family Structure (Nuclear Family)

God (Age: Eternal): Although he is the creator of the universe and created his children in his vision, he is the father figure in the family.

According to Duvall's developmental stage, God is in the Middle-age parent stage. He wants to rekindle his relationship with Goddess even after he became too focused on his human creations and when he tried to cast her to Hell. He tries to reconnect with his children as being an absent father since he only communicates with them through prayer and vague divinations.

Goddess (Age: Eternal): She is the co-creator of the universe and the mother figure of the family. She is also in Duvall's Middle-Age parent stage, where she refocuses on her relationship with God after being separated into her own universe. She has always wanted tomaintain for her, her husband, and her children to be together back to before Lucifer was banished to hell.

Amenadiel (Age: 13.8 billion): Although he was created simultaneously as his siblings, he acts as the older brother of the family. He is in the Young adult: launching stage, where he understands his duty as God's warrior, but in later seasons, he becomes a parent withan infant after his son Charlie was born to Dr. Linda Martin.

Michael (Age: 13.8 billion): Even though he's an angel, he is in Duvall's Young adult: launching stage. He maintains his home in Heaven and takes advantage of his power to draw out people's fears into becoming the next person to succeed his father as ruler of Heaven. He acts as the older twin brother to Lucifer.

Lucifer (Age: 13.8 billion): According to Duvall, he acts in the Young adult: launching stage of development. After being banished to Hell, he decided to "retire" in 2016 to own a nightclub in Los Angeles. He has experienced trauma related to his banishment as shown whenever he becomes reckless with his partying and substance use. Even though he's immortal, he has shown signs of childhood neglect. Hisconstant main supporter is Amenadiel, despite hating each other in the first season.

Uriel (Age: 13.8 billion): He is considered to be in the Young adult: launching stage up until his death/eradication. He fulfills his duty as a child of God and to return Lucifer to Hell. He uses his power of changing event sequences to try to achieve that goal.

Azrael (Age: 13.8 billion): She is considered to be in the Young adult: launching stage as well. She is known as the Angel of Death, so she knows her duty of bringing dead souls to Heaven. She only communicates when she has time to visit her siblings or when she senses someone is dying. Before the rebellion, she was one of Lucifer's closest siblings.

Remiel (Age: 13.8 billion): She is considered to be in the Young adult: launching stage of development up until her death. She acts as one of the youngest siblings in the family. She understands her role in Heaven of sensing of the birth of a celestial being.

Practices

Cultural/Religious

• Verbal communication includes the use of passive aggressiveness and sarcasm, especially when Lucifer and Michael would exploit their differences to insult each other (ie. Michael walks with a limp and Lucifer stands tall with swagger). • Nonverbal communicationincludes the use of prayer. All celestials pray to one another to call for help, such as when Lucifer prays upon Amenadiel to slow down time. They also pray to their father for guidance as he does not directly communicate with his children. • Celestials do not have a particular culture or religion practice, but they do participate in human activities. (Lucifer Wiki, n. d.)

Lucifer's Condition: Narcissistic Personality Disorder Narcissistic Personality Disorder: Characterized by having an inflated sense of importance, a deep need for attention, troubled relationships, and lack of empathy • Lucifer has exhibited these characteristics: • Gets away with the law especially since he has the ability to draw out people's desires and uses them to his advantage • Utilizes murder cases to solve his own issues • Seeks noncommittal relationships before meeting Chloe Decker • Initially had no desire to care for humans (Lucifer Wiki, n .d.; Mayo Clinic, 2017)

Strengths & Challenges Dealing with Lucifer's Condition Strengths: • Lucifer's family remain nonjudgmental whenever he brings them to his therapy sessions • Therapy sessions tailor to Lucifer's predicament in every episode (Crisp & Gabbard, 2020) • Through therapy, he selfactualizes • Amenadiel becomes close to Lucifer as the show progresses, thus becoming his main supporter Challenges: • Experiences emotional dysregulation (selfcriticism) through his devil form (Ronningstam, 2020) • This self-criticism has affected his selfesteem due to his trauma related to rebelling against his father (Ronningstam, 2020) • Lack of direct communication between Lucifer and his father until season 5 • He does not fully understand empathy, but knows when someone does not deserve pain and suffering (Lucifer Wiki, n. d.)

Bioecological Systems Theory

Bioecological System: The combination of one's biological disposition and environmental factors to shape one's development

Microsystems: The settings in which individuals/families experience as part of their daily reality. They can be the places they live, thepeople they live with, and the things they do together.

• Lucifer has a suite inside his own nightclub, Lux. Before that, he spent millennia looking over hell and punishing those who have sinned on Earth with the demon Maze by his side. He first meets Detective Chloe Decker during an investigation into the death of Lucifer's friend. From there, he meets Chloe's ex-husband Dan Espinosa and their daughter Trixie. During this investigation, Lucifer also meets Dr. Linda Martin,who later becomes his therapist. After the first investigation, he becomes a consultant for the Los Angeles Police Department and has met friends such as LAPD's forensic scientist, Ella Lopez.

Mesosystems: The relationships within the microsystems that individuals/families actively participate.

• Lucifer and Amenadiel spend time living amongst the humans of Los Angeles. Lucifer also solves crimes when he is not runninghis nightclub. From there, the angels who spend more time on Earth learn how humans create friendships, fall in love, and become attuned to their emotions.

Exosystems: The external environments that influence individuals/families indirectly.

• Lucifer feels neglected and unloved when God is busy being the creator of the universe and cannot directly talk to Lucifer. How humans view Lucifer as the devil affects his own self-worth. How humans view Lucifer's angelic siblings and God also have an effect on their self-worth and existence.

Macrosystems: The broad cultural attitudes, ideologies, or belief systems that influence the environments within the culture the individuals/families are a part of.

• Lucifer is rich and immortal (being that he is a celestial), so he thinks that the law is above him.

• It is their belief that celestials have a duty to watch over humans and determine if they deserve to go to Heaven or Hell.

Chronosystems: Time-related events where changes occur and have an effect on the other four systems

• Lucifer's rebellion of heaven led to him being cast out and spend millennia ruling over Hell

• Lucifer's journey of self-actualization in being vulnerable by forgiving himself and thinking he's deserving of love

• Uriel's death has led Lucifer to realize that he does feel guilty for his actions, and he cares for his sibling

• Remiel's death depicts dysfunction within the family as it eventually led to a war on who would next rule Heaven

Interventions & Outcomes

(Ackley et al., 2020) NANDA: Dysfunctional family processes related to intimacy dysfunction secondary to narcissistic personality disorder as evidenced by lack of effective communication and feelings of abandonment and worthlessness Problem 1: Lucifer becomes resentful of his father after being banished to Hell. Intervention 1: Refer to family therapy and other family-oriented resources. Rationale: Evidence-based interventions targeting affected families can help improve treatment outcomes. Outcome 1: Lucifer and his father will attend therapy sessions discussing about his resentment at least once a week. Problem 2: Lucifer copes with the pain of feeling abandoned and worthless by becoming reckless with drinking, having multiple sex partners simultaneously, and excessively taking drugs. Intervention 2: Look for verbal and nonverbal signs of approval-seeking behavior. Rationale: Acknowledging the patient's fears and feelings from the family will help the patient feel supported. Outcome 2: God and Goddess will recognize whenever Lucifer parties at his nightclub throughout the day. Problem 3: Lucifer and his siblings feel disconnected to their father as they only communicate through prayer. Intervention 3: Encourage communication of feelings. Rationale: Helping the family recognize and communicate their feelings will help strengthen familial bonds. Outcome 3: Lucifer and his siblings will express their emotions toward their father once he arrives on Earth.
