Selected Works 2023 sakeenah numberdar
Hello!
I am pleased to be sharing my collection of some of my favorite academic and professional works. I believe my work is a representation of my personal interests and academic work that attempts to celebrate culture and sustainability. Some random fun facts about me, I dislike bubble tea and seafood – it’s a texture thing. I am a big DIY-er, I will DIY anything and everything that I can think of. I am a big collector of ittar (Arabic perfume oils).
I appreciate you taking the time to view my work!

SILK ROAD & IDEA EXCHANGE MUSEUM
The design for this museum is inspired by defining the meaning of architecture as a representation of culture, politics, and society. The intent of the museum is to connect, exchange, and share ideas that are reminiscent of the historical ‘Silk Road’ that encouraged trade and cultural exchange. The form of the museum is inspired by a traditional ‘caravanserai’ (a hotel for merchants to stay the night on their trade routes).

YORK RIVER HOUSING
The chosen site sits upon a slightly hilly site that faces the York River in Bancroft, Ontario. The units are design to blend the boundaries between the inside and outside and encourage inhabitants of each unit to enjoy more of the outdoors even in times of a global pandemic. The entire housing complex is planned with the intention of creating opportunities to give back to the larger community through the introduction of a community garden and communal kitchen.

The Writer’s Cabin has three primary programs: A workspace, relaxation space, and utilities. The deisgn of this cabin separates the three programs through it’s strategic glazing while maintaining an open flow. The entrance of the cabin leads to a straight circulatory path that ends at the deck. Placing the main workspace near the end of the cabin allows for views of the lush forest. Fall 2019
