KEITH GETTY

OBU to host music leaders for free luncheon Oklahoma Baptist University invites music and worship leaders to attend a free lunch event with Keith Getty, Sept. 15 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The event will take place in the Mabee Suite inside the Noble Complex on OBU’s campus in Shawnee. This free event is designed primarily for Christian worship leaders and is open to the public. Lunch will be catered and is sponsored by OBU’s Warren M. Angell College of Fine Arts. Attendees must register for the free event by visiting www.gettyevents. eventbrite.com or by calling (405) 585-4300. “Hymns, Worship, and the Christian Life - a Lunch and Conversation with Keith Getty” offers a tremendous opportunity to hear from Keith Getty, cowriter of “In Christ Alone,” “The Power of the Cross” and many other wellknown modern hymns.

Attendees will share in important conversation and helpful instruction as Getty shares from his experience and discusses attendees’ questions on these topics. The lunch event is designed to help local Christian leaders connect on a meaningful level, bring an understanding of why singing theologically-rich songs is important, create a renewed awareness of the importance of congregational singing and host a conversation that might challenge, encourage and spark deeper thought and action on these topics. The event is held in conjunction with the concert that evening, featuring Keith and Kristyn Getty, as part of their “Hymns for the Christian Life” tour. The concert will be held Monday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. in Raley Chapel’s Potter Auditorium on the OBU campus in Shawnee. The

evening of worship will feature the Getty’s full Celtic band and a 100voice choir of singers from area churches. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased online at www. okbu.edu or by calling (405) 585-4300. Heralded as modern hymn writers, Keith and Kristyn Getty are known for writing and performing songs that transcend traditional church boundaries, uniting the voices of people all over the world. With music that is equally at home in urban stripmall chapels, the ancient stonewalled Canterbury Cathedral, Nashville’s legendary Ryman Auditorium and London’s Royal Albert Hall, they occupy a different space in the Christian music community. To register for the lunch event, visit www.gettyevents.eventbrite.com. For more information or

to purchase tickets for the concert, visit www.okbu. edu or call (405) 5854300. With campuses in Shawnee, Okla., and Oklahoma City, OBU offers 10 bachelor’s degrees with 86 fields of study and three master’s degree programs. The Christian liberal arts university has an overall enrollment of 2,097, with students from 34 states and 30 other countries. OBU has been rated as one of the top 10 regional colleges in the West by U.S. News and World Report for 22 consecutive years and has been Oklahoma’s highest rated regional college in the U.S. News rankings for 20 consecutive years. Forbes.com consistently ranks OBU as a top university in Oklahoma and the Princeton Review has named OBU one of the best colleges and universities in the western United States for ten consecutive years.

Police: Baby left in trash fighting for her life KEARNS, Utah (AP) — A newborn baby was in extremely critical condition Tuesday after her 24-year-old mother left her in a neighbor’s trash can in Utah, a state that allows mothers to drop off newborns at hospitals without consequences, police and health officials said. A woman heard what she thought was a kitten meowing in the trash bin in the Salt Lake City suburb of Kearns on Tuesday morning and found the baby, Unified Police Detective Jared Richardson said. Richardson says the girl was airlifted to a hospital

With demolition now complete, there is room for a new, slightly bigger and taller tower to be built for officer training at the range. Shawnee Police Chief Russell Frantz, who said training

in Salt Lake City, where she’s now on a ventilator and fighting for her life. Her mother, who was being questioned by police, later returned and told officers she had left the baby about an hour before the child was found. Salt Lake County Sheriff Jim Winder, who oversees the Unified Police Department, said authorities believe the baby girl was born Sunday. Winder said investigators did not have any information about where the mother gave birth or why she may have left the baby in the trash can.
