TREASURE HUNTING IN TROGIR Our brave teams the Polish Indiana JoAnna's and the Romanian Violet squad did a wonderful job finding and exploring more (or less) known places in Trogir

The Ivan Lucić Palace It is situated at theseafront. It dates from 16th century, but it's original visure was destroyed during 19th century. It was a home of Petar Lucić, the author of the first Croatian collection of poems called „The Garden“

Porta Marina

The south town gate is remarkable example of mannerist architecture of the 16th century. The wooden parts of the gate are valuable and the well-preserved example of artefact from the 16th century. In front of the gate there is a small. In front of the gate there is a small “loggia” which once served as a shelter for travellers and passer-bys during the day and night.

the tower of The Benedictine nun-monastery. Originally it was owned by one of the noble family Cega and was also incorporated in the city walls. From the 15th century it became the monastery.

In the park called Žudika you can see the remains of the monument built in 1910 in honour of the Austrian emperor Franz Joseph I. The monument was destroyed in 1918 after the fall of Austrian monarchy. Five young boys from Trogir removed the emperor's head from the bust on 28th October.

The church of St.John , the baptist is very close to the main square, and it was built by the Benedictine monks in the 13th century. Judging by the sculpture of a lamb on the main gate of the church, it was also built by the master Radovan who was the author of the famous gate of the cathedral.

On the southern side of the main square there is St.Sebastian church and the town clock with the sculpture of the saint. Nowadays the church is a memorial place for the people who died in the war during 1990s.

The Bokanić obelisk was placed to mark the end of construction works on the main town square in 1600. It is documented by the script on the monument.

The Town museum which is situated in the palace Garagnin. The museum contains the historical artefacts of life in Trogir for more that 2000 years (from 4th century BC).

This was the birth house of one of the Croatian viceroy Petar Berislavić It was built in the 15th century. Iti s a mixture of romanic and gothic style. You can see the family's coat of arms with the lilly and another one presenting two crossed swords.

The Lady of Karmel Church

The primary school Petar Berislavić, it was built in 1909 on the place of the church of Holy Ghost which was destroyed in a fire in 1898.

On the small square, people are sitting, having the first morning coffee and chatting. Due to the hustle and bustle of numerous tourists who want to buy tasteful and refreshing ice-cream, may be you won't notice the palace in the background of the cafes. This building is the place where the very first pharmacy in Europe was opened in 1271.

The Cathedral

It is famous for its entrance decorated by master Radovan. It dates from 1230. It is dedicated to St. Lawrence, but people call it „The church of St. John“ according to the bishop Ivan Orsini (14th century) who is the parton of the town. The archeological artefact show that it was built on the remains of the church dating from early Christian period.

Next to the cathedral there is the Duke's palace which today is a Town Hall. It dates back to the 13.century. Its inside yard is designed in gothic style and contains beautifully decorated stairs, coats of arms of noblemen living there and the water well.

Opposite of the cathedral there is a Town loggia where the noblemen used to meet to discuss the public matters , make important decision, but it was alsou sed as a court where people who commited a crime were convicted. It was also built in the 15th century. Later it was dedicated to the viceroy Peter Berislavić who was borni n Trogir. Women were not allowed to enter the loggia.

The palace faces the cathedral and it is one ofthe most beautiful buildings in Trogir. If you enter the hall of the palace , one of the things you will notice and which will make you wonder is a rooster. It was a valuable trophy taken from the Turkihsh ship in the battle of Lepant. The Cipico palace

nobleman was awarded a Women Gaul by the Venecian Republic (La Donna da Trau-a very fast ship)

The gate was built in the 17th century and it has retained the same form up to the present time. In 1763 a statue of St. John, the bishop of Trogir was put on the top ofthe gate as a symbol of faith and protection.

In 1808 the French general Marmont ordered to build a monument as a gratitude to France. The gloriet was built on the meadow between the two fortresses and the Napoleon's bust was planned to be placed inside.

The tree of love This pine tree of a very unusual shape is called The tree of love. According to the romantic legend young lovers used to meet in the shade of this tree to promise each other love forever.

Another fortress which was the part of the town walls is Kamerlengo from the 15th century during the Venetian rule.
