Le Duc Tho was awarded the Peace Prize in 1973 with Henry Kissinger, the U.S. Secretary of State for their work in negotiating the Vietnam peace accord. Le Duc Tho stated that he was not in a position to accept the award due to the situation in Vietnam. • Richard Kuhn, Adolf Butenandt and Gerhard Domagk were required to turn down their award by Adolf Hitler. They later received their diploma and medal, but not the money. • Boris Pasternak who won the prize in 1958 for Literature eventually was coerced into declining the prize by the Soviet Union government.
