Back to the garden Inspired by the antique coverings of the 18th and 19th century
Marcelo and Jaap paint flowers, trees, birds and insects directly
on wallpaper. Roll by roll they create their designs, patterns, gardens and landscapes.
Like actual gardening, it is hard work. But once you get in the
right flow, and see the end result, it is worth the labour. When the paint flows easy on the non-woven based paper it sometimes is hard to stop because everything is working so well.
“It toke us more than a year of experimenting with different
materials and techniques. Because we work with a paint normally used for walls and ceilings it is a challenge to create a decorative work of art. The temperature, humidity, pigments and even the brushes play a big role in making our hand painted wallpaper.
Because we use a unique technique with contemporary materials
our work can not compared with ‘standard’ hand-painted wallpapers which nowadays is mostly manufactured in the Far East. Not only
the technique is different, the style or handwriting is unique as wel. Each of our designs are made without using standard patterns or
lay-outs. Each time it is exciting to start a new commission with different subjects, colors and patterns.
Their clients do not get serial- or mass produced wallpaper.
A different approach for each commission and for each room.
The smallest details are considered; how does the light reflects, what colors a suitable, what kind of style is favorable? Everything is possible.
