Architecture connects all beings at all levels of their existence, everywhere and everyday in life. Experiencing ‘connections’ in the natural and constructed spaces adds to the overall being. In search of spaces, spaces which bind all I delve further.

Reflections - space for belief and making Providence, Rhode Island

Adaptive reuse of church buildings bridges the gap between a functioning church and a church getting deteriorated or demolished. The church as a space works around the idea of one belief. It is sacred, religious, strong and powerful. It is made of belief(s) which connect the people to it. The main challenge we face today is bringing communities and youth together under one roof. The proposed project revolves around retaining the aspect of belief and focusing on inter – belief and interfaith in the existing structure while engaging the ‘community’ and ‘youth’ in the process of making. Belief and making being two separate ideas are interlinked because of the environment they are housed in. The Intervention in the main level space is informed by the angular geometry created from the form of the church. The space houses the people interested in exploring the idea of inter - belief and interfaith. This space can also be used for religious gatherings and discussions when required.

JK Residence New Delhi,India

The architecture of the house explores a play of volumes, materials and stark play of light and shadow. The volume blocking is strong and rigid and the big central courtyard adds to the key feature of the house. The interiors take a minimal approach with clean walls featuring contemporary art and craft collection of the owner.

Ramada Hotel West Bengal ,India

Darjeeling is called as the queen of hills in India. The facade of the hotel mimics the Sandakphu mountain peak that can be seen. Series of mountains , play of volumes, materials and stark play of light and shadow gives the facade it’s main feature. The big central lobby coordinates with the facade . The interiors take a minimal approach with clean walls featuring stone and wood applied dramatically.

Installation Design Newport, Rhode Island

Ida’s dream is an installation that reconstructs not the recorded history but the imagined history of Ida Lewis, the keeper of the Lime Rock Lighthouse from 1842 to 1911 who had to step into her father’s role at the early age of 16. Her story and those of other women like her who make such bold sacrifices needs to be told. Panels of dyed fabric evoking the ocean, strong imagined voice of Ida talking and domestic props gives a theatrical feel to the barracks. The viewer walks in Ida’s dream where the mighty water has enveloped them. The 18 coiled pieces of rope in various parts of the room references the 18 recorded rescues Ida made in her lifetime.
