EDITOR’S NOTE

If there is a war, there won’t be tourist Another year is over. Unfortunately, the whole year in 2017 passed with political events and wars. Bloody years in the Middle East, Presidential fights at South American countries, immigration crisis in the mid-Europe, Catalonia crisis in Spain, a war of words between presidents of the United States and North Korea, and Jerusalem threats in the United Nations. Let’s see how tourism will develop in 2018. *** In this issue, we are presenting you Turkey’s new winter sports center; Mount of Erciyes. We hope you’ll find our pages interesting that present Erciyes which will be hosting numerous international winter sports competitions and championships. You will read the news and see photos from two travel exhibitions: held in November, CTM – Cambodia Travel Mart, and Izmir Travel Turkey exhibition which was held in December. We visited Italy’s sympathetic summer destination; Rimini during autumn and will present the town in Turkish for our Turkish speaking readers. As we wrote many times in this column, we are repeating the quote of Atatürk, founder of Turkey “Peace at home, peace in the world” and wishing you a happy 2018.

Istanbul is ranked in the top 5 for international spend in Europe. London ranked at top position in Europe. In 2016, international visitors spent £11.2billion (€18.9billion) in London, more than in any other city in Europe. Visitors from within the UK spent a further £1.74 billion (€2.94bn). Overall Travel & Tourism directly employs 228,000 jobs in the capital and in terms of Travel & Tourism GDP contribution, London accounts for nearly 19% of the UK’s total. Istanbul ranked second with €17.5bn. Other cities in the top 5 are: Barcelona (€13.6bn), Amsterdam (€11.8bn) and Paris (€10.4bn). WTTC’s Europe City Travel & Tourism Impact study covers 65 cities, 17 of which are in Europe. The report launch coincides with the opening of World Travel Market at London’s Excel centre – the leading global event for the travel industry which attracts 5,000 exhibiting destinations and 51,000 travel professionals to the city. Istanbul to host the 2018 UNWTO / UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture Istanbul, Turkey will host the third edition of UNWTO/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture in 2018. The second edition of the conference is held with over 800 participants from 70 countries in Muscat, capital city of the Sultanate of Oman on 11-12 December 2017. This event was an official event in the calendar of the International Year for Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017. “Two years ago we met in Cambodia for the First UNWTO/UNESCO Tourism and Culture Conference. Today am very pleased that we reassume this dialogue here in Muscat. A dialogue that should happen every day around the globe. Yet that often finds itself limited by us living in separate silos”, said UNWTO Secretary-General Taleb Rifai. “With over 1.2 billion people now crossing international borders each year, tourism represents a golden opportunity to break down barriers of ignorance and prejudice. It plays an important role as a vehicle for inter-cultural dialogue and, ultimately, peace.”, said Francesco Bandarin, UNESCO Assistant Director-General on Culture, in his opening speech, on behalf of UNESCO Director-General, Audrey Azoulay. “UNESCO and UNWTO are also united in our commitment to tackling the challenges of poverty and development through sustainable tourism.” he added. Following Istanbul in 2018, Kyoto, Japan will hold the fourth edition of UNWTO/UNESCO World Conference on Tourism and Culture in 2019. We have hundreds of congress centers. The largest congress center in Europe is located in Antalya at Expo with 5.000 seating capacity. Our municipalities have congress centers. Antalya has a very serious congressional potential. Antalya also has experience like G20 and EXPO. It is absolutely necessary to promote Antalya and make promotional material.

Turkey news Some important Hotels with Congress centers and facilities are not in the Meeting Planner Guide. Munich Airport to support Turkish Airlines at relocating to Istanbul New Airport Turkish Airlines (TK) and Munich Airport signed a long-term consulting service contract. As of now, Munich Airport will support the flag carrier of the Republic of Turkey and the hub carrier of the current Istanbul Atatürk Airport in preparing a smooth relocation of its operations to the Istanbul New Airport, scheduled to open on 29th of October, 2018. Istanbul New Airport is one of the biggest infrastructure projects in Turkey. At present, a private consortium of five Turkish construction companies (IGA) is building Istanbul New Airport on the Black Sea Coast, with an investment worth €10.3 billion and the airport will be constructed over an area of 76.5 million square meters to the north of Istanbul along the Black Sea coast, in 35 km distance to the city center as a bird’s eye view. Also it will be the world's largest airport as “built from scratch” and will be built as a modern, disability friendly, “green” airport with high recycling and rainwater utilization capacity. The construction will be carried out in four phases. The first phase is scheduled to be finalized in 2018 with the opening of two runways and a terminal for 90 million passengers. Once complete, the new airport will host flying to more than 350 destinations with an annual passenger capacity up to 200 million. With 300 international destinations in 120 countries and a fleet size of 328 aircrafts, Turkish Airlines, flies to more countries and also international destinations than any other airline in the world, currently operates the world’s third largest route network. By 2023, TK is planning a fleet expansion up to 500 aircrafts (including cargo aircrafts as well), counting 170 aircraft on order, and the aircrafts whose rental periods are due to come to end by the end of 2023. Turkish Airlines currently operates 75% of all international flights at the existing Atatürk Airport. Relocating such a big hub carrier requires comprehensive strategic planning and close coordination with all stakeholders, partners and authorities. “We are very pleased to support the largest operational readiness and transfer (ORAT) project in aviation history with our meanwhile 25-years of ORAT expertise from more than 30 projects. Our sincere thanks goes to Turkish Airlines for the trust they have placed in us. We are very proud to be a partner of such a

Why Cybersecurity in the Travel and Hospitality Sector is So Critical? For many years now, cybersecurity has been a primary concern of government organisations and the banking sector, but the hospitality and travel industry is beginning to acknowledge the importance of online security in its day-to-day operations. Each travel operator, hotel or transport company handles all kinds of sensitive data on their customers, as well as their own staff and suppliers. The consequences of organisations experiencing online data breaches are now higher than ever before. For instance, if a travel operator is hacked, leaking thousands of personal addresses of customers, they face significant financial, legal and reputational ramifications. The loss of customer confidence in the operator and the legal costs of any resulting identity theft would hit any travel operator big or small right where it hurts – the profit and loss sheet. As businesses within the travel and hospitality sector grow, so too does their global footprint of sensitive data. There is an increasing need for these brands to maintain the privacy, integrity and security of all personal information that is in their care. A sure-fire data security 101 tip is to implement a robust user rights management hierarchy. This can help to control the level of sensitive data an individual can access in line with their seniority within the organisation as well as their job description. It requires travel companies – particularly those with global workforces – to keep a tight reign on their user rights systems to remove dormant users that may have left the company; mitigating the possibility of any revenge attacks. Organisations should also closely monitor and audit their employees’ data usage to pinpoint any signs of access abuse, which is not always malicious but can still have ramifications for the company when it's not. The major elephant in the room for travel and hospitality brands operating in and out of Europe is the new impending European regulations designed to safeguard customer data. The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) has been devised by the European Union (EU) and will come into force next year. Although GDPR is aimed at giving the average consumer or holidaymaker greater control over how their personal data is used and stored, it also gives travel and hospitality organisations greater clarity about data protection law, creating one legislation across the entire single market. Under the GDPR rules, travel and hospitality firms that fail to comply in time for 25th May 2018 could experience hugely damaging financial penalties which could plunge brands into difficult times; perhaps even closure. The upper limit penalty for non-compliance will be €20m or 4% of an organisation’s annual global turnover; whichever is greater. GDPR will affect all kinds of departments of travel firms; from legal and compliance teams to IT and marketing divisions. Those within the travel and hospitality industry must therefore take the protection of customer and employee data as seriously as their revenue. Regular security audits, increased encryption of data and watertight password control are no longer something that can be ignored. So too are lawful marketing campaigns and privacy policies, while teams should be educated and briefed on how to handle a data breach if – and when – the time comes. Travel professionals handle more data than you realise and meeting those new obligations will not only keep brands on the right side of the law, it will increase consumer confidence and strengthen brand reputation overall. Booking.com’s new support chatbot handles 30% of customer questions Booking.com announced the expansion of the pilot version of its new service and support chatbot, the Booking Assistant, now widely available to Englishlanguage bookings worldwide. The Booking Assistant merges proprietary Artificial Intelligence technology with Booking.com’s already-robust customer service support. Available to an increasing number of travelers ahead of the busy end-of-year travel season, the Booking Assistant empowers customers to get first-line support for their upcoming bookings, including timely responses to their most common stay-related requests, all through a single intuitive chat interface. Built entirely in-house, the Booking Assistant leads the industry when it comes to quickly identifying and automatically responding to an increasingly broad range of post-booking related questions from travelers, all through their preferred device and platform. The Booking Assistant uses natural language processing technology to identify the most frequently asked questions from customers, including topics like payment, transportation, arrival and departure times, date changes, cancellation requests, parking information, extra bed requests, pet policies, WiFi and internet availability, as well as a wide variety of greetings and thank you messages. With increased access to additional consumers and their most pressing questions, the Booking Assistant is quickly becoming more sophisticated. Booking.com is currently training the model to refine the current number of questions it can manage into more than 90 specific subtopics that can be quickly identified and handled appropriately. Unlike other chatbots that are only focused on conversion conversations, one or two specific tasks, or upselling in-stay services, the Booking Assistant chatbot has been built to respond to customers’ most commonly asked questions. The chatbot can currently respond to 30% of customers’ stay-related questions automatically in less than 5 minutes. If the Booking Assistant identifies a question it can’t solve on its own, depending on the nature of the question, it pulls in support from either the Booking.com customer service team or the property, adding their response directly into the conversation. In addition, the Booking Assistant always identifies the source of that information, so it’s 100% transparent for customers. According to recent research conducted by Booking.com with 19,000 travelers in 26 countries, 50% of consumers don’t mind if they deal with a real person or a computer, as long as their questions are answered. Along with Booking.com data that 80% of customers prefer self-service in order to get the information they need, the Booking Assistant fills a need for travelers to get the quick support they require without having to deal with more traditional customer service channels like phone or email. In addition, as a hybrid chatbot experience, human backup is always available within the interface itself with no need to reach out through alternate channels for assistance. For Booking.com’s accommodation partners, the Booking Assistant represents a valuable time saving innovation. The chatbot can already handle many easy-to-answer questions eliminating the need for customers to reach out to the property directly for clarification, with the benefits only increasing as topic identification becomes more sophisticated. No matter which device or preferred communication channel travelers use, they can get the answers they need through the Booking Assistant. The Booking Assistant was built as a mobile-first experience and has been adapted to operate natively within the iOS and Android versions of the Booking.com app, as well as in Facebook Messenger. It can also be accessed through the Booking.com website on desktop, mobile or tablet. To interact with the Booking Assistant, customers should look for the chat icon and the text Ask a question.

hotels European Hotel Industry Performance in 2017 The latest January-September edition of the quarterly ECM-MKG Destinations Observatory report reveals a growth in hotel industry throughout Europe, especially in the Iberian Peninsula, UK and Eastern Europe. In Europe, the Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) experienced a 6.1% growth since January 2017. The Occupancy Rate (OR) increased by 2.4 pts and the Average Daily Rate (ADR or room rate) by 2.7%. Midscale and Upscale/Upper Upscale are on a dynamic trend with a RevPAR that has respectively risen by 6.1% and 6.2% after three trimesters. Still no catastrophe following "Brexit" in the United Kingdom: the RevPAR grew by 7.1%. Edinburgh and London are in the top 3 with the best occupancy rates in Europe. Meanwhile, Germany is on a low positive growth trend: +2.3% of its RevPAR. Some cities are, in spite of a strong business activity, on a downturn trend (Frankfurt, Leipzig, Munich and Nuremberg), while Cologne, Hamburg and Hannover recorded a RevPAR increase of 13.5%, 8.2% and 6.2% respectively. Italy (+5.5%), after a difficult year in 2016, posted an increase in its RevPAR, this positive change can be explained by good results recorded in Florence (+14%), Venice (+17.5%) and Bologna (+12.1%). Rome continues to record negative results (RevPAR: -7.1%) but the occupancy rate remains almost at the same level compared to last year. Over on the Iberian Peninsula, tourist arrivals have continued to grow as a result of their internal dynamics but more importantly following a large wave of tourism transference from Mediterranean destinations affected by terrorist attacks in recent months (Turkey, French Riviera, Egypt, Maghreb...). As a result, all cities in Spain (+10.6%) and Portugal (+18.3%) have gained a strong RevPAR increase. France showed a growth (+3.7%) thanks to its strong touristic pole: Paris saw a 5.9 point increase in its occupation rate, and a RevPAR rise of 5.4%. Other cities like Bordeaux (8.4%), Toulouse (+3.6%) and Bayonne/Biarritz (8.7%) also recorded a RevPAR increase. After a difficult second semester in 2016, Nice still has not recovered since the beginning of the year and is on a RevPAR decrease (-0.9%), but the perspectives look good for the end of the year. Lille and Montpellier also recorded a RevPAR decrease by 4.3% and 11% respectively. Many destinations have started hosting significant international conventions or conferences as a way to not only improve their economic context but create a knowledge economy. Warsaw posted a RevPAR up by 9.2% thanks to several international conventions or conferences. For example Madrid, following the hosting of many international business meetings this year, or Barcelona, both noted an increase of 18.6% and 12.9% respectively. These big cities are not alone in experiencing a RevPAR improvement: Valencia, Bilbao and Malaga felt a 12% RevPAR increase. Lisbon, which organized but a few international conventions in this first part of the year, also posted a RevPAR increase of 23.1%. Wien also recorded a RevPAR increase (+3.1%) along with Prague, which hosted many congresses and conferences: this indicator grew by 10.1%, the occupancy rate rose by 2.6 points and the average daily rate increased by 6.5% compared to 2016. Amsterdam, after the organization of international business events, also recorded a RevPAR increase of 10%. All ECM members have exclusive access to the complete ECM-MKG European Destinations Observatory report with all the graphs and analysis. Aman announces Amanyangyun in China Aman’s most ambitious project to date: Amanyangyun opens its doors on 8 January, 2018. Located just outside downtown Shanghai, Amanyangyun comprises a village of historic relocated and restored Ming and Qing Dynasty houses surrounded by an ancient and sacred camphor forest of 10,000 trees. At its heart is the Emperor Tree; standing at 17 metres, it is the tallest of its kind in all of China. It has stood for more than 1,000 years – but not here, not in this spot. For in this woodland sanctuary, all is not what it seems. Amanyangyun is the fourth Aman destination in China, the first in Shanghai, and the only one with its dwellings to have travelled more than 700km. Opening on 8 January, 2018, it is the result of a staggeringly ambitious 15-year conservation initiative, which saw nothing less than the relocation of a forest and the reconstruction of a historic village. Kerry Hill Architects – also behind Aman Tokyo – have meticulously restored the 50 disassembled antique houses to create 26 ancient dwellings for Amanyangyun, seamlessly integrating contemporary comfort into the 400-year-old fabric of the buildings. Many of the Antique Villas still bear the legacy of their bygone owners, in the form of ornate stone carvings and inscriptions that depict family hopes and histories. Thirteen of the antique dwellings, now four-bedroom Antique Villas, measure between 800 and 1,000sq m, and include a private pool and Jacuzzi, as well as a courtyard – a signature feature of Chinese buildings of this age. Twelve of the historic homes rescued and restored from Jiangxi have been converted into refined Aman Residences to own. The result is a harmonious blend of modernity and tradition, and a living monument to the natural and human history of Jiangxi. As well as the Antique Villas, Amanyangyun provides 24 newly created Ming Courtyard Suites that harmoniously complement their historic counterparts, offering guests expansive, light-flooded bedrooms and living areas characterised by refined wooden interiors and Aman’s signature Asian-inflected minimalist design aesthetic. Crafted to balance old and new, these 65sq m spaces each pay tribute to the structure of the classic Chinese courtyard home, with two spacious private courtyards attached to each. Set around an impressive central courtyard, the 2,840sq m Aman Spa is one of the largest and most comprehensive in the Aman collection. The complex houses eight treatment rooms, two double spa suites, extensive relaxation areas, a sauna, plunge pool, Jacuzzi and two swimming pools; indoor and out. Two private Spa Houses each offer a suite of thermal facilities, including a Russian banya and Turkish hammam. AccorHotels acquires 50% stake in Orient Express 134 years to the day after the first Orient Express trip between Paris and Constantinople (October 4th, 1883), SNCF Group, owner of the iconic “Orient Express” brand, teams up with AccorHotels to continue the development of Orient Express within the luxury hospitality sector globally. As part of this partnership, which will combine the expertise and savoir-faire of the two groups, AccorHotels will be acquiring a 50% stake in the share capital of Orient Express, until now fully-owned by SNCF. The Orient Express brand is a timeless symbol of the art of luxury travel, steeped in culture, splendor and refinement. The legendary train, which for almost a century connected Europe’s greatest cities, from Paris to Istanbul, is imprinted in both History and imagination. Since 1977, SNCF Group has been actively involved in developing the brand’s prestigious image, notably through the restoration of vintage carriages dating from the 1920s and the organization of events (such as the exhibition “Once upon a time the Orient Express” at the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris in 2014). In addition, the seven historic cars, symbols of French Art Deco, will remain the physical property of the state-owned rail group, and will be operated by Orient Express for private journeys and events. They will provide a new and exceptional setting for the organization of events.

Nane, Pegasus Airlines CEO said: “Turkey's position in the global aviation market strengthens further every day and we at Pegasus are an important part of this transformation.

destinasyon Otelimiz istasyona çok yakın Piazza XXV Aprile’e çıkan Viale Corridoni üzerindeki New Zanarini.

2018’in turizm açısından iyi bir yıl olacağına inanıyorum. Anex’in Azur Air’ı haftanın her günü Gazipaşa-Alanya Havalimanı’na Boeing 737-800 tipi uçaklar yerine Boeing 757-200’lerle uçuş yaparak taşıyacağı yolcu sayısını büyük gövdeli uçaklarla artırmış olacak. Pegas’ın Nordwind’i de Rusya uçuşlarına başlayacak.

Cappadocia Ultra-Trail®’in 2018 Salomon Cappadocia Ultra-Trail®’in 2018 yılı kayıtları başladı.
