Memorial Garden & Columbarium
Memorial Garden & Columbarium
From the earliest days of the Christian faith, believers have sought to be laid to rest near the places where they worshiped and prayed—close to the sacred spaces where their lives were anchored and their faith was nurtured. The Memorial Garden and Columbarium at Smoke Rise Baptist Church continues this meaningful tradition, offering a serene and sacred final resting place on holy ground.
Nestled beside our Sanctuary and Chapel, the garden is a haven of beauty and quiet reflection. With carefully tended plantings that change with the seasons, it is both a place of remembrance and a living expression of hope. Whether blanketed in the stillness of winter or bursting with color in the spring, the garden offers peace to all who visit—a
reminder that, even in grief, resurrection and renewal are close at hand.
Choosing to be interred at Smoke Rise is more than a matter of convenience or proximity. It is a spiritual decision to remain close to the community of faith that has shaped your life. It allows family and friends to remember and celebrate your life in a place filled with prayer, worship, and enduring love.
We invite you to walk through the Memorial Garden, to pause among its pathways, and to consider the comfort and continuity it offers. This is not just a place for the departed, but a gift to the living—a space where memories are cherished, and faith is reaffirmed.
The Smoke Rise columbarium is located inside our lovely memorial garden, which is landscaped with a wide variety of plant specimens. Flowering trees, shrubs and roses, along with additional blooming annual and perennial favorites, add color and balance to the area throughout the year. Benches inside the garden are available for enjoying the serenity and beauty of this sacred space.
All donations to help maintain and enhance the garden are welcome. When a plant is given in memory or in honor of an individual, a garden marker is placed beside the plant.
A wall has been designated for memorial plaques. Bronze plaques may be purchased for those not inurned in the columbarium. Each plaque will include the name, date of birth, and date of death. At the family’s request, an unfurled flag symbol will be added to indicate military service. When the first person passes away, a plaque with both names, birth dates, and the deceased person’s death date will be placed on the wall. Upon the death of the second person, that death date will be added.
Cost
$400.00 for Single Name Plaque
$600.00 for Double Name Plaque
Each niche cover will be inscribed with the name(s) and dates of birth and death of the deceased. An unfurled flag will be placed to indicate a veteran if requested. When the first person who has bought a niche has deceased and the inurnment has taken place, the granite faceplate will be sent for engraving. While it is out for engraving a granite faceplate will be put in its place, which will read, “Out for Inscription.” It takes about 10 days to get the faceplate back. When the second person has deceased, the same process will be followed.
Base Cost: $2,800
Includes: 12x12 niche, 2 brass urns, 2 engraved names on the niche cover.
If inurnment is to take place at the time of the funeral service, the family will go to the columbarium where the minister will have a few words and prayer.
If inurnment takes place at a different time, the minister will meet the family in the chapel prior to the inurnment and walk with them to the columbarium.
If the family has not picked up the brass urn at the time of purchasing the niche, they may pick it up from the church at their convenience to take to the funeral home.
For an extra cost you may add the following to your niche:
1 Urn: $100
1 Engraving: $250
2 Urns: $200
