Among Tyler’s strengths is speaking in a language his clients can understand simplifying and breaking down information regarding their finances so that everyone is on the same page. He knows the importance of active listening to truly understand and empathize with each individual client. In part thanks to his positive spirit and growth mindset, Tyler recently earned the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) designation to refine his skills for navigating clients through the complex world of charitable planning. He loves asking his clients, “what do you want this money to do for you?”

Alyssum also knows the value of working with

empathy and compassion in every aspect of her job. She envisions herself in her clients’ shoes, “to understand where they’re coming from and to envision their dreams.” She gains satisfaction from seeing clients reach goals that they’d planned years prior and knowing that their guidance played a part in it. Her belief in continuous growth has driven her to earn both the Certified Divorce Financial Analyst (CDFA®) and the National Social Security Advisor (NSSA®) designations. Alyssum wants to show young professional women that they can ‘do it all’ by being a mom to a young daughter while advancing in a successful career. She was recently honored by Central Penn Magazine’s “Forty Under 40” award which further proves she can indeed do it all!

Joshua describes himself as “less of a talker and more of a listener”. He truly enjoys meeting clients where they’re at in life, especially if it means he can help them plan for their future. By really getting to know their clients and their families, Smith Wealth Advisory Group ensures their relationships are well beyond transactional. They wholeheartedly believe that whether you’re new to working with them or have worked with them for years or even generations - you’re a part of the family.

Childhood trips with his grandfather, a farmer, to meet with his financial advisor first inspired Kevin’s career interest to help others in a similar manner. Although he lost his grandfather in 1986 and his mother in 2010, their legacies endure in the mission and values that have distinguished Smith Wealth Advisory Group as the premier wealth management firm it has become since the time of its founding in 2001.

How are you compensated?

All initial consultations are conducted on a complimentary basis. Compensation is involved only when financial plans are executed. Advisory fees vary depending upon the nature of the highly customized plans to be developed, but are fully disclosed and agreed upon prior to implementation. As fiduciary financial advisors, our fees are transparent, highly competitive, and aligned with our clients’ best interests.

What’s your process?

As holistic wealth advisors, we strive to understand your entire financial picture including assets, debts, income, portfolio mix, and insurance coverage and ensure that your overall financial situation is optimally aligned with your objectives. This process begins with the completion of a brief information-gathering questionnaire. Once the relevant information is provided, we subsequently prepare a net worth analysis, portfolio analysis, and preliminary cash flow plan from which additional insights are obtained and used in the development of planning recommendations. These insights and recommendations are reviewed and discussed in a manner that is easily understood. We recognize that our clients’ comfort is paramount, and take special care to ensure that they are properly informed and comfortable prior to implementation of a comprehensive financial plan.

How will my money be managed?

Our portfolios are broadly diversified, not merely among various asset classes such as stocks, bonds, cash, etc. but also among various professional money managers with unique characteristics and styles.

We believe money management is a full-time dedicated responsibility. As such, we conduct rigorous due diligence to ensure that all managers and strategies utilized meet and adhere to the highest of standards in performance, risk mitigation, and other standards. These highly talented professionals are entrusted to make timely day-to-day decisions consistent with their respective investment policies and mandates.

Our role is to “manage the managers.” Any manager that fails to live up to the high expectations we place upon them, or no longer meets our client objectives, is replaced with other suitable alternatives.

The Smith Wealth Advisory Group team is passionate and consistent when it comes to giving back. When sharing his community-centered mindset, Kevin Smith does not have a short answer- “We believe giving back to our local communities is very important. In many respects, our hometowns and communities have shaped us as individuals and played a crucial role in our success. We strive and hope to give back through the dedication of our time, talent and financial resources in various ways.”

Organizations in which members of the Smith Wealth Advisory Group team are involved in board leadership include the York County SPCA, Women’s Care Center of York, Leave a Legacy York County, and Christian Men’s Business Connection. They also volunteer their time to serve community organizations like Family First Health, Boy Scouts of America, York Young Professionals, St. Joseph Church, York County Estate Planning Council, Stewartstown Lions Club, and financially support the Stewartstown United Methodist Youth Theater.

The York County SPCA has a special place in Kevin’s heart, and Tyler is a current member of its board. Alyssum loves volunteering at her daughter’s school and donates blood when she can. Joshua is a board member for Christian Business Men’s Connection of York where he assists with technology, marketing, and event planning.

Smith Wealth Advisory Group supports a wide variety of nonprofits across our region, and frequently donates time and financial resources to educational institutions such as South Eastern Dollars for Scholars, South Eastern Community Education Foundation, Kennard-Dale High School, Northeastern High School, Gettysburg College, Phi Gamma Delta Alumni Association, and Orendorf Elementary PTO. Alongside education, recreational organizations like the York Revolution, Special Olympics of Adams County, and the York Road Runners Club are important to the team as well. Most recently, the team sponsored the York White Rose 5 Mile Run organized by the York Road Runners Club.

They understand how vital organizations like these are to the wellbeing of our communities, and also provide financial support and community sponsorships to the Gettysburg Majestic Theater, White Rose Leadership Institute, Harvest Food Pantry, and the York County Economic Alliance.

Actively supporting organizations centered around community building, education, faith, and outreach are integral to the culture of the Smith Wealth Advisory Group team. You may find them frequently volunteering together outside of the workplace, where their common interests strengthen the family they’ve worked hard to establish.

Smith Wealth Advisory Group lives by the words of Kevin’s favorite quote from writer and American naturalist Henry David Thoreau, “Wealth is the ability to fully experience life.”

Kevin enjoys spending time with his wife Anne and dog Bella. When not working, he often has one of his guitars in hand. He enjoys a wide variety of music, but playing 80’s and 90’s rock is his jam. “I also enjoy traveling, reading (often with a Nespresso or coffee/latte in hand) and playing pool.” Kevin’s go-to vacation spot is the Outer Banks - a perfect combination of peace and relaxation. He and his wife have also recently added Alaska and Greece to their itinerary. Not every trip has to be far away though. “There is much we can appreciate near our own backyard closer to home that we often overlook or take for granted,” Kevin states.

Traveling to experience new cultures and timeless history is an integral part of Joshua Hogan’s inner fiber. He recently traveled to Israel to visit his extended family. With his faith being central to who he is, staying in a place like Old City Jerusalem was beyond meaningful and inspiring.

Joshua also seems to have an adventurous side given that he snuck in an after-dark swim in the Dead Sea on his way out of Petra! He describes the entire experience by saying, “It was a blessing to be able to travel to these places, but even more so, I cherished the time I was able to spend with my extended family and getting to know them better.” Outside of traveling, Joshua enjoys learning the craft of woodworking and spending quality time with loved ones.

Outside of their passions as financial advisors, each member of the Smith Wealth Advisory Group team spends their time on the things that are important to them. No matter what it is, they measure wealth by more than just money- they wholeheartedly believe wealth consists of moments and experiences that are shared with those they love.

Alyssum has exciting ambitions for her family and their travel plans: “I’ve set a goal for my family to visit all 50 states by the time Gabrielle completes college.” Beyond this goal, Alyssum and her family have loved visiting Río Grande, Puerto Rico and the Finger Lakes in upstate New York.

This past winter, Tyler took a trip to Stowe, Vermont to hit the ski slopes.

When he’s not in the mood for thrill-seeking, he’s often relaxing at the beach. Last summer he traveled to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and typically visits Kevin’s favorite spot - the Outer Banks in North Carolina - each year.

Outdoor activities are an important part of a healthy and balanced life, especially for the team at Smith Wealth Advisory Group. Joshua loves running and cycling while setting goals that strive to push himself further than before. Tyler enjoys spending his time outside of work on the golf course or ski slopes. Alyssum trained for and recently completed her third half-marathon. All three of them motivate and encourage each other to train, especially when it comes to a “Tough Mudder” run that they recently completed together!

Newcomer Joshua finds that he’s constantly soaking it all in - working with such an inspiring and energetic team while learning new things every day. He uses the discipline he’s fostered in his fitness journey to work hard for others and deliver the best experience possible for clients. His favorite part of working at Smith Wealth Advisory Group is “the ability to build relationships with clients and make a positive impact on their lives,” and says, “It has been an incredible privilege.”

Although we are happy to provide a detailed “Meeting Review Checklist,” we generally aim to:

We strongly believe in the importance of financial education - especially at an early age - and frequently conduct educational presentations geared toward those near the conclusion of their studies or fresh out of school. Successful financial and investment planning is less about intellect than it is about developing sound habits and behaviors. The ideal time to begin planning for retirement is the time one receives their first paycheck when the benefits of time and compounding are at their greatest.
