San Bernardino County Supervisor Josie Gonzales and Assemblymember Cheryl Brown attended the Latino Health Collaborative’s Posada Navideña, a winter holiday event at Muscoy Elementary School. They wished everybody a Merry Christmas and took pictures with Santa Clause and students from Muscoy Elementary School. Posadas are a cultural tradition rooted in the blending of Christianity with Mesoamerican cultures. The word posada means shelter or lodging, and refers to the place Jesus Christ was born. With roots in Spain and Catholicism, the posada has been practiced in Mexico since the 16th century. To this day, people in Mexico and Central America mark the nine days for Christmas by holding a posada each night.
The Latino Health Collaborative (LHC) was launched in November of 2004 as a group of community stakeholders focused on finding ways to increase access to care and to eliminate health disparities. In this relatively short period, LHC has garnered the reputation as a leader in community organizing, coalition building, and health policy advocacy and has experienced rapid growth, from a handful of committed individuals to over 50 members representing faith- and community-based organizations, county behavioral and health departments, community clinics, hospitals, school districts, and representatives of county, and state elected officials.
The event provided gifts to hundreds of children in the Muscoy Learn more at http:/www.latinohealth.org Elementary School area.
