The Walnut City Council is typically on the giving end of awards and certificates, but last week found itself receiving an honor.Floyd Hayhurst, president of the Association for Los Angeles Deputy Sheriff's, presented the city with a framed certificate to thank Walnut for its support for the organization's members. Hayhurst said it takes the dedication of the rank and file and the support of a city to make for an effective law enforcement program. "We know that a quality public safety service program doesn't happen by accident," he said. Mayor Nancy Tragarz lauded the Sheriff's for a job well done. "Crime rates have been down and they've done an excellent job," she said. “The reason a lot of people move to Walnut is because Walnut is one of the safest cities in the San Gabriel Valley," she said.
