■ In October in Cincinnati, lines once again formed well in advance of the grand opening of a Chick-fil-A restaurant, populated in part by out-of-town customers who chase openings around the country much as rock fans follow their favorite groups on tour. As usual, there were tents, sleeping bags, lawn furniture and portable generators in evidence. “We’ve been planning it for two weeks,” said a 24-year-old woman from New Richmond, Ind., who was there with her grandmother. (The first 100 in line received coupons worth $260.) ■ Researchers at the University of Bradford in the UK said in October that bandages soaked in maggot secretions were successful in accelerating tissue repair.

ROY, Utah — Darrel Thorsted, a U.S. soldier in World War II, survived the Bataan Death March but didn’t last as a prisoner in the Philippines. “They just starved him to death,” said a sister, Margaret Strevay, 79. His family in Ogden never recovered his body. But they recently received one of Thorsted’s dog tags — 63 years after his death — from a Filipino immigrant in Texas who found it in a cave and kept it in her wallet. “We were so surprised. I guess it was just meant to be,” Strevay said Tuesday. “I feel like it was a miracle, and my brothers feel the same way.”

SANTA MONICA AIRPORT — In a city where residents and officials oftentimes strive to save the world, a landmark general aviation airport here could be the first in the country to help the environment in its own right. In keeping with the city’s continuous efforts to make Santa Monica a sustainable city, Santa Monica Airport management, along with the city’s Environmental Program and Public Works staff, are currently drafting a sustainable initiative for the airport. If adopted by City Council next year, Santa Monica Airport would be ALBERTSONS
