LA2024 tweaks plans to bid for Olympics in Los Angeles By The Associated Press
In another change to the original plan, the press center for Los Angeles’ bid to host the 2024 Olympics would be relocated to the University of Southern California campus near the proposed media village. The Secret Service would take the lead role in Games security. LA2024 recently announced that the Main Press Center once planned for NBC Universal’s studio lot would instead be at USC’s downtown Los Angeles campus and the lot in Universal City would host the International Broadcast Center as originally proposed. LA2024 submitted its second bid file covering governance, legal and venue funding to the International Olympic Committee last week. The IOC said it received dossiers from Paris, Budapest and Rome, even though the latter’s bid has been rejected by its city council. The IOC was still in contact with the Italian Olympic committee but the city eventually withdrew. The IOC will select the 2024 host city in September 2017. “We are eliminating unknowns and ensuring we can deliver what we promise,” bid chairman Casey Wasserman said. “LA 2024 is more optimistic than ever that we can create for the Olympic movement a high-tech, low-risk and sustainable new games for the new era of Olympic Agenda 2020.” The MPC and media housing would be part of the proposed downtown sports park that would include venues for 14 sports, with the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, a temporary aquatics

Cycle of life for local senior Longtime resident wins two gold medals at Nevada Senior Games BY JEFFREY I. GOODMAN Daily Press Staff Writer
Michael Lukich can leg-press 600 pounds, ride his bike uphill for miles at a time and get his heart rate up to 190 beats per minute during intense cardio. He’s 76. “Everybody is good at some-
thing,” he said. For Lukich, a longtime Santa Monica resident and personal trainer, that “something” is athletic competition. He’s been busy traveling in recent weeks for a variety of events, keeping his mind in shape by pushing his body to new limits. In late August, he competed in
the inaugural Americas Masters Games in Vancouver, where amateur athletes over the age of 30 participated in 24 different sports. Earlier this month he spent time in Las Vegas for the Nevada Senior Games, taking home two gold medals and two silvers in cycling. He earned first place in his age division in the 20- and 40-kilo-
meter road races and claimed runner-up honors in the 5- and 10kilometer time trials. “It keeps me healthy,” he said. It’s a lifestyle built on habit for the Lukich, a 160-pound dynamo who has been involved in fitness for decades. SEE GAMES PAGE 7
