The Santa Monica Daily Press will host its annual candidate forum, Squirm Night, tonight, Oct. 13 at the Broad Stage in partnership with Procon.org and Santa Monica College. Today’s event is the seventh event hosted by the paper and it’s come along way since the first debate. The first Squirm Night was held in 2002.

Abby Arnold and Matt Dinolfo were challenging incumbents Pam O’Connor, Kevin McKeown and Bob Holbrook. The newspaper had always held candidate interviews for the purposes of picking potential endorsements and in covering many of the forums up to that point, we realized the kinds of questions we wanted answered were not

being asked in a public venue. As a newspaper dedicated to providing the public with information, we thought it would be beneficial to open up our discussions to the public and the idea of Squirm Night was born. Squirm Night 1.0 was held in a bar on SEE SQUIRM PAGE 13

Patty Finer is a College Admissions Consultant who lives in both Santa Monica and Malibu. According to her statement in the voter’s guide, she is a second-generation native Angeleno with a J.D. and a master’s in Education. Nick Boles, 28, Non- Profit Consultant/ Entrepreneur. Boles is a renter in Mid-City with a Bachelors in Economics & International Relations. Boles has described his campaign as bridging the generational gap in leadership and to provide a voice for the next generation of Santa Monicans who want to plant roots and raise families. Boles

Courtesy Photo The Santa Monica Daily Press will hold its annual Squirm Night candidates forum on Oct. 13 from 6 - 10 p.m. at the Broad Stage (1310 11th St.). Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Seating is first come, first served. Free parking is available on site with additional street parking nearby. There will be three forums over the course of the evening. Candidates for school board will take the stage at 6 p.m. and the SMMUSD forum will last 50 minutes. There will be a 10-minute intermission before candidates for SMC board take the stage at 7 p.m. The college forum will last 40 minutes. There will be a second intermission and Council candidates will take the stage at 8 p.m. Candidates will have the opportunity to ask each other questions as well as fielding questions prepared by the SMDP editorial board, community stakeholders and the audience.
