THE IT’S SPREADING ISSUE

Police investigating attempted murders Buy Local Expo BY AMEERA BUTT Daily Press Staff Writer

EUCLID STREET The Santa Monica Police Department received a call Monday night regarding fighting in the alley to the rear of the 1800 block of Euclid Street. When officers arrived on the scene, they found a male and female adult suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Both victims were transported to a local trauma center and are expected to survive, police are reporting. Police consider it an attempted murder case. No suspects have been identified or taken into custody. “The victims are not cooperative and the police department is working to get any information,” said Lt. Richard Lewis, SMPD spokesman.

It’s unknown if the incident is gang related. Lewis said people, who may have been in the area, may be gang affiliated. The victims’ names haven’t been released, pending an ongoing investigation. Investigators are asking anyone with information to call the robbery/homicide division at (310) 458-8451. ameera@smdp.com

PROMENADE Shop local. Eat local. Play local. Live local. This Saturday, Santa Monica business owners will get a platform to promote those themes at the third annual Buy Local Expo. The event, which runs from noon to 5 p.m. on the Third Street Promenade, will feature musical performances, culinary events and promotional booths from local businesses. “It’s great for exposure, to let people be more aware about the types of businesses, products and services we have in Santa Monica,” said Jennifer Taylor, chair of the Buy Local Santa Monica Committee. Sixty-five local restaurants, spas, hotels and nonprofit organizations have registered tables for the event, said Gigi de Pourtales, director of events and marketing at the Chamber of Commerce. The businesses reflect the diversity of options local consumers have, representing Downtown, Main Street, Pico Boulevard and SEE EXPO PAGE 9
