Maureen Faibish, the owner of two pit bulls that attacked and killed Faibish's 12-year-old son in June in San Francisco while he was home alone (after Faibish had ordered him to stay away from the dogs and shut him in a room), denied that she was in any way responsible for little Nicholas' death. "It (was) Nicky's time to go," she told the San Francisco Chronicle. "When you're born, you're destined to go, and this was his time."

Nearly 30 local kids will be strapping on their shin guards and lacing up their cleats in Japan this Monday as they kick off a little cross-border soccer competition. Sponsored by Santa Monica businesses and individuals, a pair of local teams will storm the Japanese city of Fujinomi. The trip also marks the 30th anniversary of Santa Monica and Fujinomi as sister cities. By all indications, the athletes are stoked about their upcoming travels. “They’re like a bunch of

PALISADES BLUFFS — Santa Monica police officers, members of the Veterans Administration and city landscapers spent hours on the Palisades Bluffs last week searching out homeless encampments and removing them. Starting at the 500 block of the Pacific Coast Highway, Thursday’s sweep was part of a bimonthly detail intended to keep the Bluffs clean and un-populated. The steep, brushy hillside, owned by the city of Santa Monica, is often illegally occupied by the homeless. Thursday’s operation led to the misdemeanor arrests of seven individuals inhabiting the Bluffs,
