Another tax for schools possible BY NICK TABOREK Daily Press Staff Writer

SMMUSD HDQTRS Despite the failure of Measure A at the polls last month, school district boosters have not ruled out the possibility of placing another local funding measure on the ballot this November, members of a committee studying the issue said this week. Measure A, a proposed $198 per parcel tax that would have raised $5.7 million per year for five years for the Santa MonicaMalibu Unified School District, received 64.25 percent of the vote in a May 25 mail-in election, falling just short of the two-thirds it needed to pass. ‘Family friendly’ council meetings BY NICK TABOREK Daily Press Staff Writer

woman’s mother called authorities to report she had not been able to reach her daughter, who moved to Santa Monica from Tucson to pursue her acting and modeling career.

CITY HALL Newly appointed by his City Council colleagues to serve as mayor, Bobby Shriver is using at least some of his newfound clout to pursue a longtime goal: holding shorter meetings. Two arrested in 2008 murder BY DAILY PRESS STAFF DOWNTOWN A woman and a man from Camarillo were behind bars Friday in connection with the murder of aspiring model-actress Juliana Maureen Redding, whose body was discovered in March 2008 in her Santa Monica apartment. Kelly Soo Park, 44, and Ronnie Wayne Case, 34, were arrested Thursday in Camarillo by Santa Monica police. No motive was given for the killing. Park and Case face charges of murder with special circumstances and conspiracy, according to Santa Monica police Sgt. Jay Trisler. They were both locked up Thursday in Santa Monica and were being held without

bail, Trisler said. Detectives worked “thousands of hours” on the case, in cooperation with law enforcement in Torrance and Oxnard and the FBI, Trisler said. “The Santa Monica Police Department is continuing to investigate this crime and there is the possibility of additional arrests,” Trisler said. Redding’s body was found in the evening of March 16, 2008 at her home in the 1500 block of Centinela Avenue, Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the coroner’s office said. “It appears the victim died as a result of an assault,” police said in a statement at the time. The body was discovered after the
