Stabbing on pier leads to arrests Bartenders aid injured victim BY KEVIN HERRERA Daily Press Staff Writer
SM PIER Employees at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. on Thursday morning came to the aid of a man who was stabbed several times in the back and torso by at least six suspects who were later apprehended by police. The victim came up to the restaurant around midnight and banged on the door, according to the restaurant’s manager, Dan Flannelly. Five generations of family jewelers

“Our bartenders acted quickly and got the man some help by calling 9-1-1,” Flannelly said. “The paramedics arrived just as quickly and got him stabilized and on his way to what we hope will be a speedy recovery.” Police said the victimwas transported to a local hospital were he was listed in guarded condition. Eight suspects were seen leaving the area on foot and were located in the beach parking lot in the 1100 block of Pacific Coast Highway, just north of the pier. Five adult males and one male juvenile were identified as being involved in the incident. The six suspects were taken to the Santa Monica Jail and booked for attempted murder. Their bail was set at $500,000 each.

The adults were identified as Kenneth Scialpi, 21; Andrew Alvarado, 18; Gabriel Fernandez, 18; and Daniel Fernandez, 21 — all from West Covina; and Michael Tejada, 20, of Temple City. The 17-year-old juvenile was released to his parents, police said. Police are still uncertain as to what caused the fight and subsequent stabbing. The victim was intoxicated and uncooperative, police said. The weapon has yet to be located and the investigation is ongoing. kevinh@smdp.com
