DOWNTOWN Guests looking to rest their heads on Ocean Avenue may have another option now that a development agreement has been reached between City Hall and those financing a new 73-room hotel. The developer will renovate and restore two landmark buildings on the 1300 block of Ocean Avenue and incorporate them into the project, which is expected to be a modern design that will help accentuate features of the historic Victorian and Spanish Colonial Revival structures, according to city officials and an attorney for the developer. The Victorian home will be moved slightly to the north and renovated into a restaurant, while the Spanish Colonial structure will be converted into the hotel’s lobby and cafe. A public plaza will connect the two with the hotel, said Sarah Lejeune, a senior planner with City Hall who has been working with the developer, Legg Mason Real Estate Investors. “One of the chief benefits is the preservation and reuse of the landmarked buildings,” Lejeune said. “One of the advanSEE HOTEL PAGE 12

SM COURTHOUSE A judge here on Tuesday prevented Florida resident O.J. Simpson from receiving any further compensation from a canceled book deal and TV interview and ordered the bundled book rights to be auctioned off. Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Gerald Rosenberg ordered the auction for the rights to “If I Did It,” in which the former NFL star was to explain how he might have committed the killings of his ex-wife, Nicole BrownSimpson and her friend Ron Goldman.
