Our short-term training programs are for those looking to quickly gain skills and certifications that lead to employment. Many offerings are grant-funded (free of charge to trainees). And, if you decide you want to continue your education, we’ll help you figure out the best path to do so.
Choose from 40+ associate degree and certificate programs. Most programs range from 1-2 years for completion. Upon graduation, students enter the workforce or transfer their credits to continue their education at a four-year college or university.
Students can earn their education fully online for our Liberal Studies and Business Administration programs. In addition, we offer hundreds of online and hybrid classes so that you can work towards your education in a location that is convenient to you.

Wherever you go, you will run into SMCC graduates. Whether they’re serving their communities as a police officers, providing medical services, serving as head chef at your favorite restaurant, or leading Maine’s workforce as tradespeople, entrepreneurs or business owners–SMCC graduates are making a big difference in the world.
Fiston Bujami, a native of the Democratic Republic of Congo, attended SMCC with his sight set on becoming a music producer or audio engineer. After graduating from SMCC, he enrolled at Liberty University in Virginia where he pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Commercial Music. Fiston was also nominated for four Sauti awards–honoring excellence in the African gospel recording industry–one of which he won for best African traditional song.
After earning her Culinary Degree at SMCC in 2002 Heidi worked her way up to becoming Executive Chef at Fishbones American Grill in Lewiston. While at Fishbones she was selected to participate on “Hell’s Kitchen,” a reality TV show starring British chef and TV personality Gordon Ramsay. Nearly 3 million viewers turned in for the premiere of the season.
Llyod came to SMCC at age 40 to pursue his dream of being an illustrator for fantasy role-playing games. After earning a Communications & New Media Degree he was hired as a producer for RPG and fantasy games around the country. He now lives in Wisconsin– the birthplace of Dungeons & Dragons– where he collaborates with other artists who are part of the game.
Jae enrolled in SMCC’s Information Technology program and in her first semester landed an internship at Fairchild Semiconductor. When her internship ended she was offered a fulltime job at Fairchild as well as tuition reimbursement to complete her degree. Jae says, “SMCC has given me the opportunity to really boost my skills, make great connections and do the things I’ve always wanted to do.”
