It’s that time of year again when many of us pack up our bags and head off on holiday. To ensure that you don’t forget some of the more common medicines, we have put together a brief checklist of medicines that are worth considering taking.
• Anti-Diarrhoea Medicine for Adults e.g. Imodium
These suggestions will help you be prepared for your holiday, help you stay happy and healthy and avoid unnecessary doctor’s fees. If you are heading off to somewhere more exotic talk to our pharmacists and they can advise on any additional items.
• Indigestion Remedies e.g. there are various tablets or liquids which can relieve symptoms and ensure that any change of diet doesn’t have negative consequences. Speak to our pharmacists for details.
• Painkillers for Adults e.g. Paracetamol or Nurofen for those headaches or little aches and pains that can niggle away at you. • Childrens Medicines e.g. Calpol or Nurofen for Children for pain and fever •
Antihistamine Tablets e.g. Cetrine. These can also be used in conjunction with Antihistamine Sprays such as Flixonase and/ or eye drops such as Opticrom if symptoms are severe. They are also very useful for heat rash which is very common if you are travelling somewhere very warm.
• Anti-Diarrhoea Medicine for Children e.g. Dioralyte and Tasectan • Anti-Sickness Medication for Adults e.g. Motilium

Insect Repellent e.g. Jungle Formula. Dependent on where you are travelling to and your age our staff can advise on the most suitable products. Generally the higher the percentage of DEET the more effective the repellent.
• Bite/ Sting Cream e.g. Anthisan. • Sunscreen. The higher the factor the better. Ideally SPF 30 or above and don’t forget the lip balm. • And finally don’t forget the medicines prescribed by your doctor! *Before taking any medicines please consult with the pharmacist.
• Travel Sickness Tablets. E.g Stugeron. Talk to our healthcare staff and they can advise on the suitability for different age groups

It is not possible to completely avoid allergens, but following some simple steps can limit your exposure to them and avoid triggers. • Keep doors and windows closed during the pollen season. • Avoid hanging laundry outside. • Clothing you wear outside can carry the pollen throughout your home as you move from room to room. Change clothing where necessary. • Pollen counts are highest in the early morning, try avoid going outside during this time. • Avoid mowing the lawn, which stirs up pollen and molds. • Check weather updates for daily pollen counts.
