SPOTLIGHT on Asthma TO MARK WORLD ASTHMA DAY, SAM MCCAULEY CHEMISTS WELCOMES YOU TO JOIN US FOR OUR ‘ASTHMA IN FOCUS DAYS ’ TAKING PL ACE IN OUR PHARMACIES THROUGHOUT IREL AND Asthma is a condition that affects the airways – the small tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs. The airways become over-sensitive, which means that they react to things that would normally not cause a problem, such as cold air or dust. Ireland has the 4th highest rate of asthma in the world with over 470,000 people affected by this chronic lung condition. Recent studies have shown that up to 60% of Irish patients do not have their asthma under control with up to 14% of patients requiring a visit to A&E and 8% of patients admitted to hospital in the past year. However good control of asthma is possible for the majority of patients and can be achieved with help from the Asthma Society of Ireland and your healthcare professional. World asthma day is on Tuesday 2nd of May and to mark this Sam McCauley Chemist are working with the Asthma Society of Ireland during the month to offer a number of "Asthma in the Pharmacy" days in our stores. Nurse Specialists from the Asthma Society of Ireland will be in store to provide advice, support and information on asthma and they will be happy to help you to understand and manage your asthma.
FREE inhaler technique checks during the month of May in all Sam McCauley Chemists During the month of May, every Sam McCauley pharmacy will be providing FREE asthma consultations where your pharmacist will ensure that you are using your inhaler(s) correctly. Ask your local Sam McCauley pharmacist about inhaler technique – are you using your inhaler correctly? A common reason for poor asthma control is poor inhaler technique. Your pharmacist can show you, in the privacy or our consultation room, how to use the different inhaler devices to enable you to get the most benefit from your medicines. He or she can also advise you on spacer devices for children and adults.
As part of the fundraising efforts, collection boxes will be in all Sam McCauley stores. Our stores will also be holding special events throughout the period.

But then last year I signed up to present the TV travel series ‘Getaways’ for RTÉ and BBC. I knew it was time to change my ways, plus I was pregnant so I was personally carrying a lot of “extra baggage” already. Now I’ve become that smug person at the ‘bag drop’ with my 15kg bag even though I'm allowed 20kg (sorry).
"First thing I do now is write a list" This might sound over the top but I guarantee you if you try this just once when travelling, you'll end up taking less clothes away with you but somehow having more outfits. Plus you’ll only take the beauty products that you actually need. Start with shoes, think about what you’re doing, where you’re going and take it from there... but I'm not here to talk to you about fashion! Instead I'm giving you a sneaky peak inside my beauty bag when I travel.

When travelling I only take the 32" with me because it's all I need for a straight or wavy blow dry. So far it has been with me in London, L.A., Las Vegas, Austria, Iceland, Italy, Tenerife and skiing in France and it's still in perfect condition
and keeping my hair in perfect shape too. I love it when a product can fulfill three needs for me, when I’m travelling Clinique Aromatic Elixir becomes my after sun, my moisturising body cream and my perfume. A little bit of this goes a long way. Your skin will look and smell divine with this one. And finally I go no where with out a clear plastic zip bag with some standard antihistamines, a cream for bites (because to insects I’m like Emily Ratajkowski... They find me irresistible!!!) and some Dioralyte ...Because someone always gets an icky belly and you can be the super hero of the holiday.
