TRENDS DRIVING SMART HOME TECHNOLOGY MARKET IN INDIA

The Smart Home Expo survey has unveiled three prominent trends poised to revolutionize the smart home technology market in India. As the demand for interconnected and automated home systems continues to surge, these trends are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of this industry.

Luxury Home Automation and Technology

It is noted that there is a growing demand amongst homeowners of high-end apartments and villas to opt for Luxury Home Automation. These homeowners consisting of high net worth individuals, businessmen, film stars, sportsmen, etc. are opting for the latest technology that provides them indulgent comfort right from sophisticated control panels, keypads, digital locks, smart lighting with lighting controls, smart cameras, smart appliances, high-end Audio Video, home theatre, etc. are the smart solution they demand from the architects and interior designers.

The homeowners want to operate their entire home from a single keypad/panel. They wanted their home to be automated. They demand a seamless symphony of smart technology, home automation, Smart lighting and control, and cutting-edge entertainment, including multi-audio setups and state-of-the-art home theaters.

Growing Popularity of Immersive Audio Video and Demand for Home Theatre

Millennials, the nation’s largest living adult generation, are major growth drivers. Millennials are the biggest players now in the housing market. These homeowners’ expectations and willingness to invest are rising adoption of Audio and Video combinations amongst younger age groups. The adoption of audio and video combination among younger age groups has seen significant growth in recent years. Younger consumers, particularly millennials and Generation Z, are known for their enthusiasm and reliance on digital media and technology.

It is noted that the latest buzz in the audio segment is Immersive Audio. For those who are not familiar with Immersive audio, it is a generic term that describes a broad range of technologies designed to make the sound listening experience more lifelike and encompassing for the listener. Immersive audio aims to create a three-dimensional

sound experience, which means listeners can perceive sounds coming from all around them, including from above and below, not just from left and right. This is achieved using various technologies and techniques, such as surround sound, object-based audio, and binaural audio.

Dolby Atmos is a specific immersive audio technology developed by Dolby Laboratories. Unlike traditional audio methods that distribute sound across different channels, it’s an object-based audio technology that breaks audio down into individual objects that move around in a three-dimensional space. With Dolby Atmos, sounds are precisely placed and moved anywhere in a room, including overhead, to make the entertainment experience sound more realistic and immersive.

Other formats, such as Dolby Atmos, Auro3D, Sony 360 Reality Audio, MPEG-H 3D Audio (ISO/IEC 23008-3), DTS:X, THX Spatial Audio, and Discrete Immersive are very much in demand.

We’ve compiled a series of interviews providing insights into our partnerships with industry leaders and association bodies, showcasing how these collaborations will culminate in a successful event. Explore what experts have to share about their collaboration experiences and the series of knowledge-sharing sessions they will conduct at the Smart Home Expo.

Can you elaborate on IALD’s association with Smart Home Expo 2024? How do such platforms help in creating awareness of the latest developments in the lighting industry?

As an Association, IALD is focused on promoting the tenets of good lighting and encouraging the use of qualified, independent Architectural Lighting Designers for projects in the built environment. With over 1,500 members worldwide and about 60 members in India, the IALD also acts as a voice to inculcate values of sustainability and responsible design. Smart Home Expo has been a good platform to amplify these objectives and engage in mutually beneficial dialogues with the client and manufacturing groups.

Regarding the launch of LiDAI (Lighting Design Association of India), what specific goals does it aim to achieve, and how do you anticipate it benefiting the Indian industry?

Architectural lighting design is slowly, but steadily, coming of age in India. The country has unique challenges when dealing with rapid growth in cities and for infrastructure. Development in urban and rural areas of India needs specific and innovative lighting solutions that meet tighter budgets and satisfy local cultures and geographies. The Lighting Designers Association of India (LiDAI) was launched by lighting designers

who have engaged with these issues and believe in building communities that support a dialogue to improve the state of the profession itself and the quality of our lit environments in the country.

Are there any plans for knowledge-sharing sessions organized by IALD or LiDAI at Smart Home Expo 2024?

This year the knowledge sharing sessions are curated around Responsible Design and Better Integration of Lighting Design services in the construction process. There are a series of interesting case studies of award-winning lighting design projects by Indian Lighting Designers in a variety of building typologies and a couple of panel discussions with architects and designers that are built around establishing a more informed design process.

Could you discuss any recent advancements or innovations within the lighting industry that you find noteworthy and intend to highlight at Smart Home Expo 2024?

Today technology allows us better and more refined control of equipment. With the emergence of LED as the primary light source and its quick response to digital control and its versatility in colour management, there are several ways in which digital control can be used to benefit the human experience of light. In addition to these technological advancements, it is equally important to integrate sensitive and sensible adaptation of technology to balance other burning issues today - that of controlling night sky pollution, a working circular economy that reduces our consumption of material and designing for more healthy experiences in our lit spaces.

How do you envision the partnership between IALD, LiDAI, and Smart Home

SMART HOME WORLD | MARCH 2024 | 27

In your opinion, what are the key challenges currently faced by professionals in the home automation industry, and how can CEDIA training address them?

There are 2 key challenges: the first is workforce development. In this little known industry there is scope for us to raise awareness of this industry as a career path. This can be done in a number of ways: Our NextGen toolkit allows CEDIA, the industry and our members to raise awareness of Smart Home as a profession but

also clearly positioning this industry as part of the construction process with designers and architects, so set an expectation with them that there are professionals that can support their clients with their technology needs. The industry is growing at an exponential rate, most companies need more people with more skills, which is where the other part comes into … Professionalism… From the research CEDIA did (& will be undertaking this year) the highest lead source of business was through word of mouth. If sub-standard home automation jobs are being done, and the clients are not having a great technology experience, the same word of mouth can be detrimental to our industry. This is why professionalism and skills are key to continued industry growth (as well as standards so that people have an expectation to work to). CEDIA training plays a crucial role by providing comprehensive education, practical skills and industry insights and empowers professionals with the tools and knowledge needed to overcome challenges.

How do you envision the evolution of smart home technology in the next 5-10 years, and what role do you see CEDIA and Smart Home Expo playing in this evolution?

“Design and Elegance are at the core of the Quba products which we bundle up with user convenience and technology.”

With nearly three decades of experience behind him, Deepak Sapru, the CEO of Quba, is a dynamic leader at the forefront of India’s fastest-growing hardware brand. Under his leadership, Quba has flourished, becoming synonymous with innovation and reliability in the industry. Passionate and driven, Deepak Sapru eagerly delves into Quba’s extensive lineup of digital locks and digital safes, catering to diverse customer segments with precision and expertise. In an exclusive interview with Smart Home World, Deepak discusses their state-ofthe-art product line and future launches.

INTERVIEW

Could you provide a comprehensive overview of the digital locks and digital safes offered by Quba across various customer segments?

If we broadly divide the customer segments in three parts based on their spending capacity as Economy, Mid and Premium then, Quba preciously has the products to cater every category. May it be Safes or Digital Lock, Quba doesn’t compromise on quality, technology or aesthetics of the products even if it’s for Economy Segment.

The newly launched Qraft – 5-way access digital lock and Magnus – Safe series are examples of the same.

What are the standout features that differentiate Quba’s Digital Locks in terms of security and convenience for users?

As the Qraft’s tagline goes `Security has never been so stylish’, Quba literally live up to that. We provide wide range of technology features in all of our digital products such as Hijack Alarm which has ability to send SOS signal through lock, without touching your phone, then we have Passageway Function which basically disables locking mechanism of the door which saves the trouble of unlocking the door every time in case of some occasion or party and security feature like OTP generation, where temporary password can be created for your guest or maid. Over and above all this, we have our own mobile application which help you monitor all the locks from anywhere in the world.

How does Quba proactively address potential vulnerabilities within the digital lock and safe technology, such as addressing concerns related to hacking or electronic malfunctions?

Quba Digital products go through three step QC with surprise inspections of manufacturing sites by independent inspection agencies. Every wireless communication between device and mobile is encrypted and inserted user data is stored on secured cloud of Application Platform. As we said earlier, Quba doesn’t compromise on quality, technology or aesthetics of the products.

In the context of the ever-evolving smart home landscape, how does Quba’s digital lock and safe technology seamlessly integrate with other smart home systems and devices? Specifically, can you touch upon features like biometric access, keyless entry, and remote control?

In all the fingerprint-based locks, Quba provides 360 degrees fingerprint sensor which saves the pattern of the fingerprint and not the photos; but now, Quba is not only confined to the Main door Lock or Safe, as we have launched Qsense which is a furniture lock product series & has similar features like main door lock that makes even furniture lock equally secure and safe. Quba’s Upcoming Digital lock like “Quest” will be having VDP (Video Door Phone) integration capabilities. Even upcoming Premium Safes will be Mobile App Compatible. That not only provides the convenience of keyless entry/opening but also peace of 24/7 monitoring using the mobile app.

46 | SMART HOME WORLD | MARCH 2024

Could you elucidate the various connectivity options accessible with Quba’s digital locks and safes, encompassing aspects like mobile apps, remote access, and compatibility with the Internet of Things (IoT)?

Like most of the Digital locks, we provide Fingerprint, password, RFID & Mechnical key option but key point is, even in our economy series main door locks, we provide inbuilt Wifi connectivity and not a Bluetooth using which we can unlock the Wifi Digital lock from anywhere using Quba Smart App. That make our Quba Smart App a one stop solution for all the devices connected to network. As we mentioned earlier, upcoming Quba Lock will be compatible with VDP & allied products like Qeye a Wifi Video Door Bell & Qbot a Wifi 3MP home PTZ camera are part of Quba Family which can be accessed on same Quba Platform.

One of Quba’s renowned product lines, QUANTRA, has been honored with the prestigious RedDot Design Award. Could you share the unique selling points (USP) of this range?

Design and Elegance are at the core of the Quba products which we bundle up with user convenience and technology. Quantra is the product of all these things craft together. The uniqueness of the product is the Push-Pull Design of Quantra which is very unique & adds

into it utility. Apart from all these, Quantra is wifi inbuilt lock with electronic lock body and comes with wide range of mobile app & security features.

Let’s delve into the digital safe offerings provided by Quba. What options do you offer, and could you provide insights into the application areas where these safes find relevance?

Quba’s Digital Safe provides impeccable security merged with aesthetic design and has to offer something for every market segment. Our Astrix-001 & Astrix-002 are premium WiFi safes that are mainly would be used for high-security requirement areas such as Gold/ Diamond factories or High-profile personal cabins. Astrix-002 being fire resistant, adds to the security.

Our Magnus-003 to Magnus-006 are Laser cut dual access mode safes that are most suitable for the mid-market customer segment, who is looking out for security with style. Having Fingerprint, password, and mechanical keys as three opening options, provides triple peace of mind. Lastly, for the economy market segment where the price of the product is on priority, we provide Magnus-001 & Magnus-007 which have strong bodies of 2mm thickness and doors of 4mm thickness. Also, these digital safes provide access through a password and mechanical key.

We are very happy with the partnership and 27 years of experience in India that MZ brings to the table.

Can you elaborate on the range of audio products that Artsound intends to introduce in India through the partnership with MZ?

Artsound is committed to introducing

Additionally, we plan to unveil outdoor speakers suitable for both consumer and professional markets, catering to establishments like restaurants and sports clubs. When designing products, Artsound always considers its intrinsic values. The product must

deliver excellent value for money, be easy to install and use, and exceed the customers’ expectations, in whatever situation the product is used. We will not launch the most exclusive product in the world, but we will offer the best possible solution. The music needs to be enjoyed, wherever you are. Next to that we also support MZ with our 25 year history, we will train and support our distributors so they can do the same with their customers. We will make sure the end customer receives the best option available to them at a reasonable price.

Could you provide insights into Artsound’s multiroom Solutions and how they cater to apartments of various sizes and budget categories in the Indian context?

Artsound offers various solutions for both residential and commercial. One of our most popular products is the Smart Hyde/ Smart Stream. A small footprint amp that has a linkplay module built in and additional connectivity features. This will allow an installer or even an end consumer to easily create a music zone in the apartment. Depending on the network structures

available in the structure, this can be expanded to more than enough zones for 99% of the jobs. Artsound also has a 4-zone amplifier and streamer that can be expanded and built into a rackmount.

In March Artsound will also introduce the Smart Evo and Smart Single. Both are based on the same platform, the versatile Evo can be placed with a TV as it has HDMI ARC built in, so directly becomes a go-to product for any room with a TV that requires a small form factor product. From a living room to a board room. The single is an active in-ceiling speaker that has multiroom functionality built into it. Just connect it to power, if needed expand it with a second speaker, and you have your zone.

How does Artsound ensure scalability and customization options for multiroom setups to meet diverse consumer needs?

ArtSound is built by passionate people. Which includes a personal follow-up, very fast reactivity, and absolute flexibility. Flexibility is in our DNA. We are a great little small team that works together with our customers in

providing solutions. You can start with one and don’t require a central hub. You can expand that to the number you need. Either, by multiple at the time, or in singles. The only limit is the quality of your network.

I understand that Smart EVO, Smart In Set, Smart Zone, 4 AMP, and Smart Hyde are some of your popular product ranges. Could you elaborate on each of these and their USP?

ArtSound is a family, and so is the Smart range. It means, everything connects with every device, whatever the architecture is. And they remain an open window on all the streaming devices of this world. Everywhere, anytime. They all work with a streaming solution that is available to a multitude of bigger and smaller manufacturers. This means the consumer has the flexibility to choose different products that can work together. It also means that with a larger installed base, you will have the advantage of faster and better updates. The products are also easy to install and reasonably priced compared to others in the industry. Also, control is easily done. Either via the app or via KNX systems if the total system is more complicated.

52 | SMART HOME WORLD | MARCH 2024

Which streaming protocols are Artsound’s Audio Systems compatible with, and how will it enhance the user experience in Indian homes?

Artsound’s streaming protocols are Spotify Connect, AirPlay 1 or 2, Tidal Connect, DLNA, UPnP, Qplay, Internet Radio, Qobuz, Napster, Amazon Music, iHeart Radio, vTuner, SoundMachine, RadioParadise, Calm Radio, QQ music, and QQ Fm. Either via Wi-Fi or a wired network. You can also use a Bluetooth connection. These can be controlled via apps on Android or iOS.

How does Artsound ensure seamless connectivity and integration with various smart home ecosystems prevalent in India?

So currently our products support the Linkplay platform, as do many other manufacturers. We also support the KNX ecosystem. We will work together with our partners to expand the number of ecosystems that we will support, and course closely monitor the developments of new platforms like Matter.

Does Artsound accommodate customization

SMART HOME WORLD | MARCH 2024 | 53

orders from clients in India, and if so, how do you manage such requests while maintaining efficiency?

Artsound has very good ties with the supply chain and can cater to that. If there is a clientspecific requirement that can be fulfilled by adapting our current offering then we can do that if it makes sense to all the partners involved in the supply chain. Artsound can develop and produce smaller production runs. As we have done for a hospital in Belgium.

In your opinion, how will advancements in IoT, AI, and cloud computing impact the evolution of consumer audio technologies in the Indian market, and how is Artsound preparing to stay ahead of these trends?

We will need to manage all these new technologies and keep a close look at these developments. But we will do it in a ‘safe

54 | SMART HOME WORLD | MARCH 2024

mode’. What I mean is that the second mouse eats the cheese. Not the first one. With early adapters, you can create some press audience, but with a reliable, well-thought-out and tested approach, you create loyal clients. It is certain that connected products, that we also supply, will be parts of a bigger scheme and could be addressed. So. AI will help in the design of new products and consumer preferences, as long as it adds value to our customers we will follow these trends closely.

Could you share Artsound’s long-term vision and objectives for its presence in the Indian market, including any milestones or targets set for the coming years?

India holds significant importance as a market for us, driven not only by macroeconomic factors but also by the demands of its young population.

As this demographic enjoys increasing spending power, there is a growing need for solutions that cater to their needs and preferences. By offering products across various price brackets, we aim to ensure accessibility and cater to a wider consumer base. We firmly believe that MZ is the ideal partner to help us expand our presence in India, spanning both consumer and commercial segments. Together, we are poised to meet the diverse needs of Indian consumers and businesses effectively.

Speaking about the security systems Murtaza Lilamwala says, “We have also used an integrated security solution, where a facial ID and biometric reader is waiting to unlock the space at the speed and efficiency at which our iPhone unlocks itself. As a visitor notifies you with the same gadget a display phone in the kitchen or next to their bed helps them to FaceTime the visitor before they let them in. The same display can stream music in the room and control the colour temperature and intensity of every light to set the right vibe for that time of the day.”

The user experience is further enhanced through tailored Apps catering to individual needs, allowing customization at the user level with controls on their phones, tablets, watches and voice commands.

Balanced Ventilation with Energy Recovery

Modern apartments are designed air tight for comfort and avoiding noise and air pollution. This results in lack of adequate cross-ventilation to the occupants in the house. We rely on air conditioning systems to achieve comfort however fresh air ventilation is sacrificed as a result.

“To solve this problem, we have opted for Blutherm, introducing the concept of Balanced Ventilation with energy recovery to cater to the above scenario of ventilation in modern houses. Balanced Ventilation with Energy recovery involves a machine that supplies measured filtered fresh air in the living spaces like bedrooms, study rooms, and living rooms in the house, and extracts stale air from bathrooms, kitchens, and utility rooms at the 66

SMART HOME WORLD
MARCH 2024

same time. During this process both streams of air pass through a heat exchange module in the machine, that transfers the temperature of the air by up to 90% without mixing the air, thereby pre-cooling the outside fresh air passively before it enters the house, resulting in a reduced load on the air conditioning systems.” Explains MURTAZA LILAMWALA.

The Benefits and Functionality:

The benefits of implementing Blutherm system are multifaceted, addressing crucial aspects of indoor air quality and comfort. Firstly, it ensures a constant supply of fresh, filtered air, promoting a healthier living environment and enhancing overall hygiene by reducing the presence of airborne contaminants. Moreover, the system effectively curtails the formation of mold and fungus, contributing to the maintenance of a clean and sanitary atmosphere within the household.

In addition to its health benefits, the system offers significant energy-saving advantages. Through passive cooling, it alleviates the strain on traditional air conditioning units, resulting

SMART HOME WORLD | MARCH 2024 | 67

in reduced energy consumption and lower utility costs. Furthermore, by facilitating a quieter and pollution-free indoor environment, it enables occupants to enjoy a peaceful and tranquil living space without the disturbances of outdoor noise and air pollution.

While the Energy Recovery Ventilation machine serves as a cornerstone of the system, the ducting infrastructure is equally instrumental in its success. Blutherm has developed a manifold ducting system featuring semirigid antimicrobial flexible ducts with smooth linings, meticulously designed to seamlessly integrate with the machines and maximize operational efficiency.

The benefits of these ducts are manifold. Their 3-inch diameter allows for installation with minimal false ceiling margins, streamlining the implementation process. The manifold design effectively prevents cross-talk between rooms, ensuring privacy and comfort for occupants. Additionally, the antimicrobial smooth lining of the ducts promotes hygienic airflow, while their flexible nature enables versatile deployment in various configurations.

Moreover, each duct is pre-engineered to carry a specific volume of air, simplifying calculations and ensuring precise implementation on-site. The Helios KWL system from Germany has been successfully deployed, further attesting to the efficacy of the balanced ventilation with energy recovery solution. Equipped with Electronic Commutating motors, an integrated IoT module, and humidity sensors, the system operates autonomously, adjusting airflow based on indoor air quality, and enhancing convenience and efficiency for the client.

The Architecture of KNX IoT Devices

Digital transformation has been one the main strategy topics on company board meeting agendas for the last few years. The opportunity to develop digital services from cloud-based applications requires Internet protocol (IPv6) based network connections to edge devices that become the customer interface. Businesses of all shapes and sizes in commercial building automation have been asking for wireless IoT solutions to make this happen, and KNX Association responded by releasing KNX IoT Point API (KNX IoT).

The High Level Flow

To ensure backwards compatibility with KNX Classic systems (e.g. KNX Twisted Pair (KNX TP)), the KNX IoT specification has two fundamental mechanisms implemented which are semantic-equivalent to KNX TP: these mechanisms are the configuring of devices and the run time behaviour. Furthermore, the configuration flow in a Management

In part 4 of this series on KNX IoT, Bruno Johnson and Wouter van der Beek explain the architecture of KNX IoT devices and show how KNX IoT is compatible with KNX Classic systems.

Client (MAC, e.g., ETS) follows the same steps already used by installers. The result is that for installers, there is no difference between using KNX TP and KNX IoT devices. The flow in how to use the new KNX IoT devices is depicted in Figure 1.

Configuring KNX IoT devices uses all the same information as for KNX TP secure devices, namely:

• Mapping of the serial number to an individual address.

• Downloading the group address configuration.

• Using a password, similar to the Factory Default Setup Key (FDSK) to set up security. Next to this, a new feature is implemented, namely an installation identification (iid). This allows multiple installations to run over the same IT network. When the device is in run time (i.e. state is ‘loaded’), it exchanges s-mode messages using the configured information. This is depicted in Figure 2.

Note that run time communication can be established between N sending devices to M receiving devices, as with KNX TP.

Device architecture

Web addresses, e.g. URLs, are implemented on the device. Each URL that the device exposes, provides information similar to an HTTP server, and each URL has a different purpose. The URLs are defined in the specification and

GUEST ARTICLE 74 | SMART HOME WORLD | MARCH 2024

the specification defines what the URL does in the system. Figure 3 shows the most common

URLs in a device.

most common URLs in a device.

The URLs have different purposes in the system. However, the same information as with a KNX TP device, is stored via URLs.

Figure 3 shows the URLs at device level, and these convey the data such as:

• Serial number of the device.

• Programming mode, (on or off).

• Installation identifier.

Figure 2 – Run time communication between two devices.

• Load state machine status (‘unloaded’, ‘loading’, ‘loaded’), and action to change the state (‘unload’, ‘starLoading’, ‘loadcompleted’).

• Fingerprint of the loaded state, to track if something has changed.

The URL for configuration

Tables are used to configure the run time communication, e.g., conveying the mapping between Group Address, communication flags, data point (URL), security keys, and the IPv6 multicast address for the group communication.

The following Tables are used:

• Group Object Table – this contains the mapping of the data point URL to the group address, including the communication flags.

• Recipient Table – this contains the group address to group id mapping; the group id is used as part of the multicast address of the s-mode communication or to list the individual address as destination.

(Outwards communication)

• Publisher Table – this contains the group address to group id mapping. The group id is used as part of the multicast address of the s-mode communication.

(Inwards communication)

• Security Table – this contains the OSCORE security keys containing OSCORE information (‘osc’) and the mapping to KNX for group communication, e.g., list of Group Addresses or the unicast access scopes identified by the list of interfaces.

control of defining the entry URLs.

The created URL is listed with a CoAP GET on ‘/fp/g’ as a link format entry in the response. The entry can be inspected by issuing a CoAP GET on ‘/fp/g/item_1’. The response gives the values as per the specification. An entry can be removed by issuing a CoAP Delete on ‘/fp/g/ item_1’. This has the effect of the entry being removed from the device, so on a subsequent CoAP GET on ‘/fp/g’ it will no longer be listed. Note that managing the tables for group communication is only possible in the ‘loading’ state.

The URL for run time communication

The ‘/.knx’ URL is used for communication of s-mode messages. The s-mode messages contain the following information:

• Group address (‘ga’).

• Sender individual address (‘sia’).

• Service type (‘st’).

The example s-mode flow shown in Figure 5 below consists of a minimum of 2 devices, namely one that creates an s-mode message, and another that receives the s-mode message. The sending device has a Group Object Entry with group address 5 and a URL that represents/contains the value <value> and has the transmission (‘t’) flag. When something triggers the s-mode message to be set, the s-mode message is constructed and sent on the wire encrypted. The receiving device has a Group Object Entry also with group address = 5, and the communication flag write (‘w’) which means that the corresponding URL will be updated with the received <value>.

New entries are made with an internet application protocol for constrained devices known as Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP). An example would be a CoAP POST on the table URL using CoAP POST ‘/fp/g’ for the Group Object Table. The values have to define a correct entry. The used ‘id’ will be part of the URL of the new entry. For example, using id = ‘item_1’ will result in a new entry with a sub URL e.g. ‘/fp/g/item_1’. Hence the MAC is in

76 | SMART HOME WORLD | MARCH 2024
Figure 4 – Hierarchy of the URLS in the device. Managing tables Figure 4

Multicast s-mode communication

The recipient and publisher table also have entries. These entries govern which multicast address is being used. For example, an entry with ga = 5 and grpid = 1 will result in the grpid=1 value being part of the sending or receiving multicast address. Hence the entries in the recipient and publisher table for the same group address must match, otherwise the sender might use a different multicast address than the receiver.

Unicast s-mode communication – new for KNX IoT

The unicast communication differs by having a different entry on the sending side. The sender has a destination individual address (‘ia’). The individual address must be resolved to an actual IPv6 address. This can be done

As can be seen in Figure 6 above, this information gives the semantic information in the same form as with KNX TP.

Summary

The advantage of KNX IoT is that it is perfectly

via common IT protocols such as CoAP discovery or multicast DNS (mDNS). Then the actual IPv6 address can be used for run time communication.

Semantic information: functional blocks and data points (New for KNX IoT)

KNX TP and ETS work on data lengths. Hence the semantic information of what is contained in the s-mode messages is not transferred. However, with KNX IoT, this has been added at the Device level, e.g., data points used to retrieve or set the value have a (datapoint) URL. The (data point) URL can be used to obtain the ‘dpt’ value by issuing a CoAP GET with the query parameter ‘?m=*’. Next to this, the resource /f list of all functional blocks, e.g. CoAP GET on /f gives a list of all implemented functional blocks in link format. The URL of each functional block entry will give the implemented data points on the functional block.

interoperable with existing KNX infrastructure, whilst being IP-based. As such, multiple installations can run simultaneously over the same (IT) network using wired (Ethernet/ PoE) and wireless (Thread/WiFi/cellular) infrastructure. It has been developed with guaranteed interoperability with existing KNX technology, and it uses the latest underlying internet-based technologies in its specification, thereby making KNX IoT secure by design.

JUNG offers secure connection in the smallest space with new KNX area and line coupler

The new KNX area and line coupler from JUNG is a REG device with 1 rail unit. Compact and powerful, the new system device offers a reliable solution for connecting two KNX lines with simultaneous electrical isolation and new functions from the ETS6.

As an area coupler, the product serves to connect a main line with an area line, optionally with or without filter function. In addition, the new range and line coupler can function as an amplifier and enables the processing and repetition of telegrams on a line without a filter function. With the ETS6, it is now also possible to connect segments. In contrast to the line amplifier, the segment coupler can provide filter tables. It supports the division of a line into up to four independent line segments, whereby a maximum of three line amplifiers

connected in parallel can be used per line, with a maximum of 255 participants in total.

As a line coupler, the product serves to connect a line with a main line, whereby this function can be used optionally with or without a filter table. Logically, the coupler is assigned to the subordinate line. Furthermore, the new JUNG KNX area and line coupler is not only compatible with KNX Data Secure, which ensures the security and reliability of data transmission. KNX Data Secure Proxy enables the connection of private lines with public lines (e.g. residential house with unprotected outdoor area). KEF’s Newest Subwoofers: KC92 ForceCancelling and Kube Series

KEF is introducing the KC92 Force-Cancelling Subwoofer and Kube Subwoofers, both feature KEF’s proprietary Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithm and the Music Integrity Engine (MIE).

The MIE ensures every component works within the individual subwoofer in perfect harmony. Powered by MIE, the iBX Intelligent Bass Extension creates an extended depth that unlocks the full potential of the custom driver. By analysing the input signal, iBX allows the subwoofer to play louder and remain dynamic at any listening level.

The KC92 achieves articulation through a dual driver in a force cancelling configuration. KC92’s design, which incorporates the patentpending P-Flex Surround which was inspired by the Japanese art of origami. Similar to origami folds, the pleated construction defies internal air pressure, enabling the driver to move precisely in response to the aural signal. The KC92 reaches depths of 11Hz thanks to optimised excursion characteristics. KC92 contains two 9-in drivers. The force-cancelling layout of the KC92’s two drivers is back-to-back, ensuring reactive forces are eliminated, which reduces cabinet vibration and maximises

precision and detail. The KC92 also possesses 100W of Class D amplification.

The Kube is available in four driver sizes – 15in, 12-in, 10-in, and 8-in. Multiple connectivity options and room EQ settings make installation and setup simplistic. Kube has a long throw driver that fires from the front,

increasing output at lower frequencies. This method produces an impression of direct force within the space. Kube creates a soundscape by accurately reproducing the lowest octaves in music and movies with high SPL and low frequency extension, the Class D RMS amplifier in the Kube runs efficiently providing power for the subwoofer.
